Greetings! My name is Jason Brower and I have come up with an idea to create an avatar making program for linux. All the artwork is done in Inkscape and I was hoping to get some help from artists to make my program amazing! convert .svg or bitmap to .dxf

I know that there is at least one utility that will convert .dxf to .svg. However, is there one that will convert going the other way, from .svg (or a bitmap) to .dxf? I am looking for something open source, if possible. I have found a couple of shareware windows only programs. The end goal is this: To be able to scan something, convert it to a .dxf file which will then be converted for a Trumpf laser cutter to cut that shape out of sheet metal. ____________________________________________________________________________________ Don't let your dream ride pass you by. It currently includes the history-saving feature. The storyboard-drawing is work in progress, and since it's changing daily, we haven't released it yet. ruler, grid and dimensions

Hello there, I've started using Inkscape a while a go, as an Xfig replacement. I'm quite dependent on the grid and rulers, and am a bit puzzled by Inkscape's ways - unfortunately, I couldn't google anything useful out of the net. So, I was wondering whether someone would care to comment on the following points: 1. is it possible to make the vertical ruler conform to the internal coordinates, ie, I tend to use the XML editor to make corrections, and it would be useful to have the ruler conform to these. 2. can the grid also conform to these coordinates? I put a box on (0,0) using the XML editor, but the grid lines don't match the box edges 3. can it be that the ruler and grid don't match? When I pull a guide, I see that the cursor coordinates match the grid line, but not the ruler tick - say, 100 in the grid and cursor, 98 in the ruler. Looking forward to any comments, Renato

I'm using a new Gentoo 2007.0 ~x86 system, and building inkscape from svn gives the following errors. What package (cairo, poppler) could be contributing to the build problem? Text vertical align based on descenders

Hello everyone. I know this is not specifically inkscape related, but i thought maybe someone here may help. Obviously the "f" letter, which is a descender, goes below the line. Actually the text location (13,8) determines the placement related to the baseline of the font: i'd like to place at (13,8) the REAL bottom-left corner of the font. So, simply valign to bottom instead of baseline, or move up the text item by descender's amount. I have to do this in scripting, as this is part of a PHP script which invokes inkscape to manage the SVG file. I was only able to imagine 2 solutions, but was not able to apply any of them. So here they are: 1) is there any SVG option, recognized by inkscape as well, that permits this? In SVG specs i saw the "dominant-baseline" and other baseline related params, but none seems to have effect in inkscape 2) can you think at any way to calc the descender offset via scripting? Something like a function: get_descent(fontfile,is_italic,is_bold,textline) Which , i thins case, would look like get_descent("/pathtofonts/times.ttf",1,1,"for") Hope someone can help in some way, every suggestion will be really appreciated. Inkscape and digitizers

Hello everyone, I have been using Inkscape for quite some time, and I admire this tool. I am not a professional artist, but I often use it for small charts or simple drawings; and to extend my capabilities, I purchased a digitizer. On the Windows version of Inkscape, the digitizer is detected, everything works as expected, except one detail: I cannot use my mouse to do anything but select a new tool or change options in the GUI. I am unable to edit the image itself using the mouse, unless I disable the digitizer. For instance, if I press F1, the selector tool is becoming active, but when I click on an object on the canvas itself - nothing happens; I can only select objects with the digitizer's pen. I haven't found a setting in Inkscape to alter this behaviour (v.0.45.1, built in March 2007). Is this normal behaviour? I find it quite counter-intuitive, because I became quite efficient with using my laptop's touchpad to manipulate objects - and now I cannot do that anymore. Can someone shed some light on the subject? I am also running Inkscape on a Fedora Linux desktop; in that case the digitizer is not detected by Inkscape (nor GIMP), although the driver seems to be installed properly and I can see events coming from the digitizer when I press something on it.
