Hi list, I'd like to announce that I've created video tutorials for Inkscape 0.44. Those are Polish version, with Polish narration and cover pretty much of Inkscape functionality. They have been announced at Polish Linux sites this week and I have got positive feedback concerning not just the movies, but Inkscape being great program! More information: Trace bitmap, text on path funtions no longer work

Well, I remembered that I had not upgraded another computer to a newer version of inkscape, so I tried there (Inkscape-0.44-1.win32.exe). It's also XP Professional SP2. For text on path - worked fine and I realized that the problem was operator error on the newer version... ;-( Sorry. I was attempting to put "flowed text" into a path. That doesn't work. Trace bitmap - worked fine. Here is what I noticed: When I import a bitmap (jpg, png, bmp) into the 0.44-1 version on that computer it says in the status bar "image". Actually, one image that I used, and it traced it anyway, it said... "image with bad reference." On my computer rather than seeing the image import as an image, it sees it as a "rectangle". I attempted to uninstall inkscape and install the version that was on the other computer, but I get the same "rectangle" import. Very strange. SO, definetely an environment problem. But, I have no idea what. Anybody? THANKS. Maia

Inkscape for windows

Dear people, first off all I have to say that I'M NOT A WINDOWS USER. After, my boss, that is a windows user, would like to use inkscape. We have tried to install it and basically we didn't have any problem. The question is that we would like to know which dependencies needs inkscape to run in windows, because we cannot use any import feature. So, we cannot open any ps, eps, etc file. We have tried to install python and perl, (without any success, or the import feature doesn't work four us), but I have to say that I don't know very much the windows platform (I'm very happy with the apt-get ;-) So, please, could you tell me which software is necessary/recommend to run a full inkscape in the Win platform? Trace bitmap, text on path funtions no longer work

Hi, all: Wondering if anyone has experienced the same problem I'm experiencing of functionality disappearing. Trace bitmap, and place text on path no longer work. Let me explain. I've been using inkscape for about a year now, in a Windows XP Professional SP2 environment. I really like the trace bitmap capability. In fact, this is what got me to use inkscape. I want to be able to convert images (especially pictures drawn by children) into vectors for download to my sewing machine for embroidery. For a while, in the beginning of this year, I wasn't doing this type of work so I didn't use inkscape for months. When I got back to it, I downloaded the newest inkscape version. Then (end of June) it was 0.44. Trace bitmap no longer works for me. Since then I've downloaded several versions including some LATEST. In trying to debug I followed step-by-step the instructions in The Northern Pacific Railway Logo - A Tracing Example (http://tavmjong.free.fr/INKSCAPE/MANUAL/html/ch02s05.html) including using the same image in the example. Nothing works. The trace bitmap function popup window appears, you can click on the different choices and the selections you make show, but if you click preview or ok all you get is the text "Select an image to trace" in the status bar. With placing text on a path again, nothing happens. The worse thing for me is that I deleted the previous version of inkscape I had which had the functionality. By the way, I think it may be an environment problem. I can't believe that this functionality suddenly went. But, I have no clue what could be the problem. What does inkscape depend on? Anybody with ideas? Thank you all. Maia

Basic problem with font substutition

I have a simple text document saved as a PDF using Inkscape (0.42.2). If I specify the text to be rendered in something vanilla like Times New Roman or Arial I can see in Evince successfully rendered text. With other more exotic fonts like Bookman Old Style or a Bitstream, some other font has been substituted in when viewed in Evince (or other pdf viewers for that matter). This question must have been asked a thousand times. Any pointers for how to prevent such font substitution? Many thanks for any assistance. Regards Fog_Watch. Slackware 10.2

Inkscape 44.1 for Windows and OpenType font, Linux printing and PS export

Hi everyone... First of, I love inkscape best drawing software I ever used. But I have a few problems. It seem in windows, inkscape cannot access OpenType font, only TrueType font. Anyway to make OpenType work ? Also I was beable to print on my linux laptop using ubuntu with the default inkscape that came with it (using cups). But it had bugs and missed differents items, so I used the 44.1 package on the website but now I cannot seem to beable to print via CUPS... It just seem to try to pipe to lp. Anyway to fix this ? And last, the PostScript export doesn't work very well. Im trying to do 2 thing, export to PS for printing, and second to create PDF document. When exporting to ps or pdf it always missing items in my design. The only way I was beable to do 'good' postscript right now is in windows and tell it to print to file using the Apple Color Postscript printer, but even then, I got 1 object that doesn't print correctly. Any help on these issues would be great. Thanks Moc

incomplete dfont support

It seems to me that support for Mac OS X dfont font type is incomplete. I can only access the Regular font weight, but not bold, light, etc. Cheers Sebastian
