CPU usage.

Is it me or the Fedora version of Inkscape 0.44 uses more CPU now than 0.43 did? It may have been the case with the other versions I've tried, but it certainly is quite noticeable since I installed the Fedora packaged version. Anyone else noticed this? By the way I'm on FC5 x86_64, and a friend of mine also noticed this on i386.

Inkscape .44 won't run under Xandros

I just tried to run Inkscape using the newly released Xandros 4.0, and I get this message: inkscape: error while loading shared libraries: libcairo.so.2: cannot open shared object file: No such file or directory What the heck is libcairo.so.2, and how do I get my hands on it? LaTeX formula rendering. Which pstoedit?

Thanks for the great release. I am particularly excited about Effects > Render > LaTeX formula However, it silently fails for me with the autopackage release on Ubuntu (Dapper Drake). The DVI file and PS files are correctly compiled in '/tmp'. They preview in evince, but are never inserted. If I try to import the resultant PS file, inkscape reports the following error. Failed to load the requested file /tmp/inkscape-latex.tmp.ps I presume there is a small inconsistency between the versions of pstoedit. I see the following version string. pstoedit: version 3.42 / DLL interface 108 (build Jan 19 2006 - release build) : Copyright (C) 1993 - 2005 Wolfgang Glunz What further steps can I take to track this down? no radial gradients!

noooo! i've just done a fresh subversion build of inkscape and radial gradients no longer work. i can choose radial gradients and change the colours, but it just colours the whole path in only one of the colours. i'm off to submit a bug report. john m.

Statically-linked linux version of 0.44?

Hi folks, Is there any chance of getting a statically-linked, rpm-packaged version of inkscape 0.44? I'm missing the appropriate versions of libcairo, libglitz and libpangocairo. Changing from portrait to landscape and back

I'm using 0.44 and whenever I change from landscape to portrait, my image on the page shrinks in size relative to the page. I have to keep scaling the image up. When I change from portrait to landscape, the image enlarges and I have to scale it down to fit within the page. Is there a switch somewhere that controls this behavior? Thanks, Wayne Mandriva 2006

Inkscape Announces 0.44 Release :: http://www.inkscape.org The Inkscape community today officially released the latest version of its vector graphic drawing software. Inkscape 0.44 adds many new features, is faster and more usable, better supports SVG, is translated into more languages (17 on last count), and adds a lot of polish and refinement. Major new features include Layers dialog, support for clipping and masking, improved PDF export with transparency, configurable keyboard shortcuts, innovative "node sculpting" capability in Node tool, and the Outline mode. Significant gains are achieved in performance, especially in screen rendering and Node tool. Noticeable user interface changes include docked color swatches, interactive style indicator in the statusbar, a redesigned preferences dialog, a text toolbar, and new icons. Our SVG compliance has also taken a step forward, with the added support for the <switch> tag and ICC color profiles for images. This release also includes hundreds of smaller features, usability enhancements and bug fixes. For several releases, a collection of extension effects was shipped with Inkscape, but the Effects menu to access them was turned off by default. With this release, it has become mature enough, with effects working out of the box on all platforms, so this menu is enabled. New translations we need?

The translation team has made some amazing progress for 0.44! Many translations are now at >98%, which is great. So next is to ask what other translations would be worth increasing in level? I looked at the GNOME translation statistics to use as a guide. Here are the languages that GNOME has at 50% or greater: bg, ca, cs, de, en_CA, en_GB, es, fi, fr, nb, ne, nl, pl, pt, pt_BR, ru, sk, sr, sv, uk, vi, zh_CN, and zh_TW Of these, we have some at >80% already. The ones in Inkscape that are not at 80% are: bg, en_CA, en_GB, fi, nb, ne, nl, pl, pt, pr_BR, ru, sk, sr, sv, uk, vi Since pl, pt_BR, ru, sr, and uk are between 60-80%, they seem like they should not be hard to boost to at least 80%! en_CA and en_GB ought to be fairly easy too. If anyone knows a speaker of one of these languages that might be willing to volunteer to do Inkscape translation work for 0.45, please consider talking to them about this. It would be quite a victory if we could get these languages covered! Bryce
