embed imported bitmaps into SVG file

Hi, I'm looking for a way to actually embed an imported bitmap (PNG) file into the SVG file. I've tried the inkskape's import bitmap functionality, but this will only generate a link to the external bitmap file (either as <image> or <pattern> depending on the prefs). The resulting SVG file won't display correctly without the imported PNG file present in the same directory. Is there a way to tell inkscape to actually encode the imported bitmap into the SVG file. The SVG specs do allow embedded base64 encoded PNG files. Does anyone know if there's another editor capable of doing this, if inkscape isn't? Any help greatly appreciated! Kurt

Hi all, Is there a way to save the current UI layout - window sizes, positions, which dialogs are shown, so that the next time I open Inkscape I don't have to rearrange everything? Michael

Kerning?

Hi, I just compared results of inkscape (0.43-4 Debian) with scribus (1.3.3-1) and found differences in Text kerning. E.g. the word "Test" in Arial is rendered with kerning in inkscape (the e is slightly moved towards the T), while with inkscape (and rsvg) there is no kerning (Bounding boxes of T and e do not overlap). Is this a general property of SVG images to not have kerning? regards Hadmut
