Saving as .ai doesn't work

Hi, when trying to save an Inkscape file as Adobe Illustrator .ai, I get the error message saying that the file cannot be saved. What am I doing wrong, or is this some kind of bug? I am using the "Save as ..." option, with .AI selected (Inkscape 0.40). cleaner markup SVG ellipse rect polygon?

I realise Inkscape inherited a lot of code from Sodipodi and Sodipodi was using SVG as a means to an end rather than trying to produce clean markup that could be easily edited manually but what I would like to know is if there are any plans or exisiting request for Inkscape to use the standard ellipse rect and polygon tags? (If I could think of something to search for I might stand I better chance of finding an existing RFE but a quick skim of the first few pages didn't turn up much). I grabbed a nightly build and produce a simple file with a Rectangle, an Ellipse and a Star but when I inspected the markup all were represented in the file using Paths. (From a techincal point of View it is interesting that Convert Object to Path doesn't actually convert anything.) I realise the Inkscape ellipse supports more functionality than can be represented by an ellipse but I think using the tags where possible would produce much cleaner markup which is very useful to people like me who like to obsessively tweak their images and carefully hand edit the markup. Could someone Point me to a file that I can read up on the configuration options for the ./configure to Inkscape, and in particular how to get the gnome print menu to be enabled

iiim or something used in FC3 needs Ctrl+Shift+Space to switch input methods. But this interferes with inkscape's key bindings. is there any way to resolve this situation. Currently, I have been typing somewhere else and pasting into inkscape. Thanks Bal

Spelling error with Googles Summer of Code page

Hello, Just thought I'd point out that "Googles Summer of Code" should be written as "Google's Summer of Code". It's a possessive thing. I'm a longtime lurker (can't remember if I've ever posted before or not) wanting to make the project better in any way I can even if it's as small as this. Chris.

effects menu

I run debian unstable. I installed inkscape 0.41 from the official packages and from sources around 10 times now. And I always get the same window at the beginning: The failed extensions have been skipped. Inkscape will continue to run normally but those extensions will be unavailable. For details to troubleshoot this problem, please refer to the error log located at: /home/sunny/.inkscape/extension-errors.log one by one i found all the dependencies until I have left two of them: Extension "Grid" failed to load because a dependency was not met. Dependency:: type: plugin location: path string: grid Extension "GIMP Gradients" failed to load because a dependency was not met. Dependency:: type: plugin location: path string: gimpgrad On the other hand I don't get to see the effects menu, so i have no effects at all ¿is it because of these two extensions? I followed http://www.inkscape.org/cgi-bin/wiki.pl?GettingEffectsWorking or tried because in inkscapre prefs, misc, i don't have "Enable script effects". I set it manually in preferences.xml adding show-effects-menu="1" to no effect. I installed python, python-xml, perl, libxml-xql-perl. I did ./configure --with-perl --with-python and recognized them perfect. ¿am I missing something? I noticed this two are the only one plugins out of all listed in the extensions directory.
