I just stumbled across Inkspace last night, but already like it a lot. I'vebeen through all of the tutorials in the help menu and the tuts on the website (one & the same). I'm curious if anyone know of any tutorials with a more hands-on approach to creating something. :-) It's one thing, for me at least, to read about features and kind of see how they function within the confines of that tutorial, but I find I have a far easier time learning software if I can just dig in and work towards some discernable goal. Does anyone know of any good tutorials with a goal (ie. Buttons, characters, actual THINGS besides squares, etc.) like that? Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance! JTS

Problems with Text export

Hi, i am drawing a picture b/w with some Text, Arial 12pt. The text is german and contains a word with double ll ( Schnittstelle). I save it as eps and convert it with gs to pdf. The problem is that ll does not render correct. The l's are to bold. Is this a Inkscape problem or a conversion problem. Working with windows xp so can't import into scribus. Greetings, Joshy

Effects on Windows

It looks like the Win32 snapshot builds linked on the downloads page have been absent for the last few days. But Bob Jamison had one from May 11, 2005. I just tested it and Effects now work unmodified on Windows. Thanks Ted. On a related note can anyone tell me how to install XML::XQL::DOM with ActiveState Perl on Windows? It is required for the DropShadow effect, so it might be a useful bit of info to have hanging around in the mailing list archives. Aaron Spike

I downloaded the 4/23 build from http://www.inkscape.org/win32-snap/ (the 4/26 zipfile is corrupt) and regenerated the EPS. The EPS file size went from 34K with 0.41 to 57K. The text (outline or fill) doesn't show up at all in Word 2003. There's just a blank area in the Picture object. The gradient fill shows up as a solid color in Photoshop CS. I assume Adobe include a first-rate PostScript handler in Photoshop. I've attached a zip of the SVG source. problem with parasite cross over in translations

Hi A few days ago, I've submitted small patch and Bulia has kindly commited it. This patch was focusing on /src/select-toolbar.cpp so that X, Y, W (idth), H (eight) strings become translatable. The problem is that now, in all .pot file, H can conflict with H (ue) of the color tab of clonetiler.cpp dialog. See the following extract of fr.po # Hue (in HSV) # Dialog item #: src/dialogs/clonetiler.cpp:2170 src/select-toolbar.cpp:424 msgid "H" msgstr "T" and the attached screenshots So I'm afraid my idea of having those strings translatable was not so good, and my patch, a dummy one... Maybe Arpad or another experienced translator has already faced the same kind of problem and knows a workaround (I hope). I apologize for the annoyance. Regards, Matiphas

For all of you looking for a program that can convert inkscape to pdf, I have made the script a little nicer. Just save everything starting with the line #!/bin/bash in a text file and make it executable (chmod 755). This works only on unix compatible systems, and you need xfig, ps2pdf and bash installed. Run this, there are some options: -p (portrait) -l (landscape) -d dpi (90 is default, higher looks better but is slower) Final argument is the filename of a file containing a listof inkscape svg files. The list can contain just one or a more svg files, which allows you to make a nice sideshow. Oh, btw, you can also use inkview, which is very nice, but it seems to ignore the color of the paper, if you set it to anything else as white. I don't know whether that is a bug or whether I did something wrong. Printing in landscape

I'm using Inkscape .41 and I'm not able to print in landscape format. Whenever I configure my HP laserjet1300 printer to print in landscape, it comes out in portrait orientation. I'm using Mandrake 10.1. Any clues as to what I can do? Currently, I'm rotating my images onto a portrait page. Thanks, Wayne
