OK, so I downlaoded the latest inkscape .cvs package and tried to install it. This is the message I get in the install window: Installing executables... Installing manual pages for section 1... Installing icons... Installing menu items... Copying files to /usr/share Copying files to /usr/lib Error: Package Inkscape Vector Graphics Editor could not be installed I don't know if that's particularly useful, but there it is. Christopher B. Open Clip Art Library Release 0.13 Announcement

May 4, 2005 UTC - Release 0.13 of the Open Clip Art Library (www.openclipart.org) is now available for download on-line as an individual package consisting of 3459 images submitted by over 200 artists from around the globe. This release also marks the start of the community-based "Planet Open Clip Art Library." Visit http://planet.openclipart.org to read about the various developers, artists, and contributors. If you would like to join the community, please submit your RSS feed URL and optional hackerogotchi link using the new feedback form on the project's main page. In preparation for the continually warming weather (in some parts of the world), the project is calling for submissions themed around "Summer" during the month of May. Inkscape on DeviantArt

This is a follow-up to a post made back in January regarding Inkscape's presence on DeviantArt (DA)... Over time, more and more artwork is being submitted to DA that was created using Inkscape. Since we had initially started the "Inkscape" group/account on DA, we quickly realized that there are two groups of people that have exclusive needs to be met. 1) The DA Inkscape artists needed a hub to share work, talk inkscape, have friendly competitions, etc. & 2) The developers and new users of Inkscape need a place to view/show a gallery of quality images made in Inkscape by the DA community. The problem with having one account is that it DA has policies such as restricting the use of favorites from members of a group, which given the mutually restrictive needs (due to their policies), we needed a separation of interests. So... onto the announcement. http://inkscapers.deviantart.com/ is now *the* place for all DA Artists that are Inkscapers to gather for all of the fun. We currently are in need of an Avatar, DevID, and website button... which is where the first contest comes into play... all the details can be found at http://inkscapers.deviantart.com/journal/4986039/. http://inkscape.deviantart.com/ is now for official use by the Inkscape project for a showcase of work from the community as well as for official announcements and such. Another similar issue: unicode seems to be broken on the latest snapshot. All unicode characters automatically get moved to the top of the page, and it is impossible to move them from that location. Sorry for the continuous stream of problems. -- Richard Kowalczyk <richk@...489...>

Snapshot Problems

I needed some of the recent improvements - specifically, flowed text and the ability to change the format of individual characters, so I downloaded and installed a snapshot. However, I am having problems with files converted from ps. The import that worked find on the 0.41 release is not importing properly with the snapshots I have downloaded (inkscape-20050429-1520, inkscape-20050501-1240). Specifically, the text and the path's are no longer "lining up". I attached a screenshot of the 0.41 release of inkscape (on the left) and the snapshot (on the right), as well as the svg file. The intermediate skencil file looks fine (in skencil). As a side question, is it a bad idea to email this list with problems like this (snapshots)? Should i file a bug instead? Hi guys, I've started a new wiki page 'HelpWanted', to list tasks where help is needed. This is similar to but different from the InkscapeJanitors page in that HelpWanted is focused on non-coding work needed. In particular, I've listed a bunch of Wiki update tasks that I think should be done. Please take a look and see if there's areas you can put in a few spare cycles. English tutorials converted

May 1st, 2005 — Thanks to the active help from the community, all English tutorials that we had in SVG are now converted to DocBook! From within Inkscape, they are still available as fully editable SVG which you can play with, but having the DocBook source makes it easy to produce any other formats or renditions automatically. In particular, all converted tutorials are now availble in HTML, linked from our Documentation page. What's next? We have several of the tutorials translated into several languages.
