I have just a few Qs regarding performance that I'm just curious about (not complaints, just wanting to understand). 1) Why does inkscape respond much slower when moving grouped/multiple items via arrow keys vs mouse? 1a) Why does it take so long to regain control of objects when they've been moved? (once again, those grouped/multiple objects) 2) Why does it sometimes take up to 2 mins to start responding again after moving grouped/multiple items (via KB)... longest I've seen by mouse is 20 seconds? (sometimes processor is pegged, other times only using 3%, but still not responsive) 3) Why does inkscape explode in RAM so much? Basically if I have an 800k document, why would inkscape be using 133megs of RAM (not always, but if working with it for like 30mins), vs a smaller (500k) document that only uses like 40megs. Splitting one large image into several small

Hello all, I have a problem which perhaps isn't strictly related to Inkscape, but perhaps you now the solution for anyway, if it's not possible to solve with Inkscape. I have large SVG images which at the end will be transfered to wood -- they are lineart blueprint acting as templates which the wood will be cut after. The blueprint are large -- 0.5m x 1.0m -- and it's too expensive for me to let a printing office print them, so I am looking for alternative solutions. My plan is to apply a grid on the image, chop it into A4 chunks, and play puzzle afterwards. But how do I convert this large SVG image(or converted to any other format) into a "mosaik" of small images, suitable for printing? Manually would take too long and be too error prone. Anyone has an idea? Cheers, Frans

Hi inkscape folks, I only recently got attracted to this project. The thing that attracted my attention is your aim - among others - to offer an open-source replacement for MS-Visio. Now, what I have mostly been doing with Visio as a developer is modelling software development, with methodologies, like ERD-, or all kinds of UML-diagramms. My question is: do you have the goal or plan - and if yes, when - to add similar features and patterns to inkscape? If it is not in your plans, does anybody of you know an open source software for the above described activities? front-back print regitration

Hi; I want to print on both the front and back of a piece of paper and have things line up (close to) right... Nothing fancy (home inkjet printer) -- within a couple of millimeters would be fine. Does anyone have a "registration" template to get the correct offset for my printer, in to which I could set my document for printing after I get everything lined up? Or some other (better ;o) suggestions? I don't want to reinvent any wheels here, and my googling has not been very productive. Is there a "switch"

I am newbie to inkscape. I like to have the position coordinates of the objects in the center of them instead of the left bottom corner. Simply just to make concentric circles more easy. Is there any kind of "switch" to do this in inkscape? Thank you very much, please forget my bad english. Multimotyl

unable to do easy landscape work

I wanted to print landscape pages. I could choose layout of landscape and I could also choose paper size to reflect landscape size but printing always came out in normal and a lot of my image was chopped off. If I got it to print in landscape mode, then my image or text would be printed wrong direction. My only solution was to rotate my text or image objects 90 degrees (on the display). But that made it hard to read and use for text entry. This was with inkscape-0.38.1. I looked in the FAQ and searched the bug tracker but no note of it. I was unable to get to CVS to find a changelog to review (blame that on Sourceforge). Please consider placing a changelog linked from front page or close by. If it is there, please point me to it. Anyways, my question is: how can I print to landscape mode while my display accurately shows my work without having to turn my head sideways? I am not on this list; please post if moderated. An Open Clip Art Library developer, Jonadab, has constructed a script for the site (www.openclipart.org), that takes your screenshots (any size, but 1024 by 768 pixels preferred) into a thumnail, posts it to the screenshots page and then puts it into rotation on the main page of the site for the random screenshot viewer.
