need help to compile inkscape 0.39 in macosx

Hi all I'm trying to compile inkscape-039pre4 in macosx and I'm running into this problem: No package 'gtkmm-2.0' found configure: error: Library requirements (gtk+-2.0 >= 2.0.0 libxml-2.0 >= 2-2.4.24 sigc++-1.2 gtkmm-2.0 ) not met; consider adjusting the PKG_CONFIG_PATH environment variable if your libraries are in a nonstandard prefix so pkg-config can find them. I know I have gtkmm1.2 installed and than I need then to install 2.0, but the question is: inkscape 0.38 did NOT require neither gtkmm1.2 nor 2.0. I thought this would be necessary from 0.40 and onward, not before. When was this changed, or what did I miss? Also, which gtkmm should I install: 2.0-2.2, or 2.4 ? Does anyone know if any of this 2 libs have any problems in macosx ? Thank you for any help. Albert

two problems with lines and polygons.

I work with maps in a regular basis and I have two problems. Dealing with maps always needs some tools to prepare the base of the projection, contour lines, state borders, and then to convert to the appropiate design tool. These are the two problems: 1) When I convert to SVG the map looks ready to work, but all the lines are discontinuos even that they look continuos in appearence. In other words, they are segment of lines overlapping to each other. Therefore when I select a contour line or a state border, I can not work with it unless I join all the line segments. I tried all the possible options to join to separate lines into one, but I didn't succeded. It seems that the node tool is only for the same object. Can you give me a hint how to tackle this problem?. I also want to fix the problem since the begining, I want to write a small program to fix the SVG file and convert it directly to single lines. I need your advice to do it. 2) Many times I have a closed polygon, therefore I can fill with color, put patterns, etc. (for examlpe a State line). And sometimes I have an open line that is not closed but the two end-nodes touch closed polygons (in this case the border state). I want to convert the open line to a closed polygon using boolean operators. The problem is that I have to preserve both polygons. At the end I need two closed polygons. ( I guess my boolean arithmetic is not good enough). I need some hints. Thank you... Roberto

Hi, Sorry about cross-posting.. but if anyone got AI files laying around (And have screenshot but it not must) that he/she could send me it/them to test ill2svg.pl. One could do it by Email (straight to me) or send URL to file (if file is bigger than 2M). I promise to use them only for testing ill2svg.pl script.. you can also create such documents if you have Corel Draw or Adobe Illustrator. Thanks, Tuukka

0.39 Release

Bulia has announced and finalized the 0.39 release, and Ted has established the release branch. What this means: * Packagers, please download the tarball and begin making packages * We will put out an announcement within a few days, once we've got some key packages up there. * We are in Release Phase. You can commit to CVS HEAD openly, but try to limit work to bug fixing for a couple days, just in case. * Users, please download and try out the packages as soon as they're ready. [STATUS] devanagari w/ today's 0.39 autopackage

Inkscape no longer crashes, but the glyphs are still not exactly correct. It is funny: most of the ligatures are applied correctly yet some are not. I tried with both raghu.ttf and gargi.ttf. I'm using pango 1.4.0-4 (debian). What more details can I provide? -- A new cognitive theory of emotion, http://openheartlogic.org

NooB looking for tips! Two images that overlap on multiple layers!?!

I have an image that I'm drawing to show the tying of an overhand knot. www.slackliners.com. I'm trying to get the direction arrow to be on top of one part of the image and under the next (image 2). I ended up cutting the arrow in two and it looks like a whole image. The rope (image 3) is a different story. I tried the same cheat but obviously it didn't work. Any tips or commands to re join, or have different parts of images at different levels?? What about when the "ropes" cross being able to cut out the cross lines so it looks like the one side is under the other?? Thanks Clark

It looks to me as if gtkmm isn't used (other than in the ecma directory, which isn't used yet). Try changing ink_gtkmm_pkg=gtkmm-2.0 to ink_gtkmm_pkg= in configure.in (if you have autoconf installed) or configure (if you don't). Let us know how you go. I suggest writing just to inkscape-devel(a)lists.sourceforge.net rather than inkscape-user. > Also, which gtkmm should I install: 2.0-2.2, or 2.4 ? If you find that you do need gtkmm, then install 2.2 or 2.0. gtkmm 2.4 may be necessary for inkscape 0.40, but I'd guess that it won't work for inkscape 0.39. pjrm.

Can't move objects horizontally

Hello guys! I just found this excellent piece of software from SourceForge and I really love it! Thanks. But I am experiencing one small problem: I can only move object vertically with the mouse cursor but cannot move it horizontally. I can move it both ways using the arrow keys on the keyboard without problem, though. What could be the problem? FYI, I have builts inkscape from source through Gentoo's portage. Thanks. --- Koyi
