Hey everyone! Just thought I'd mention I've finished another tutorial on my site; this time it's on Bezier Curve Modeling. While I'm not promoting it as anything spectacular, I think it could help people new to vector graphics in general. It doesn't go into all the specifics, but it shows people where the important tools are and gives an example of how to use them. 0.37 doesn't compile with gcc-3.3.3

New User - Questions

Inkscape Users, I just downloaded Inkscape today. It looks like a really slick program, but I had a couple of questions. (1) How do I snap the vertex of one line to the vertex of another line? (2) Do you set the color of a line in the fill/strokes dialog? (I seem to create a polygon when I try to add color to a line, and can only use black and white with the linear or radial gradient fills.) (3) How do you snap a vertex to a grid? (4) Is Inkscape programmed in Java, or another language? Thanks for any tips or suggestions. Thanks, The Sunburned Surveyor

Icon Tutorial

Hello, Bryce said I should post this here, so here goes: I've created an icon tutorial for Inkscape 0.37 on my site, at http://programmer-art.org/?page=inkscape It should be useful for anyone wanting to learn the basics of Inkscape and how to use it to make icons. Although only two tutorials are finished, I plan on doing more (taking screenshots and cutting them up and such takes quite a bit of time, you know!). Let me know what you think :) If there are any specific requests I could look into that as well! Call For Clipartists

With Myrk's nifty ribbon.svg submission and Simarilius' SVG Signs contribution this morning, we're now officially ready to receive SVG clipart collections for Inkscape. Clipart is extremely important for users of vector art programs, because it can save a lot of time when making certain kinds of drawings, and to provide examples users can start with when making their own creations. I think it'd be most effective (and fun) to leave this process fairly open ended and flexible, since that's how we like to do things in this project. What we plan to do is treat each clipart "collection" as it's own discrete package, that is welcome to set its own rules and conventions as its contributors see fit. We'll distribute a few with Inkscape itself, others can be provided as separate add-ins. So, if you want you can establish your own collection of just your own work, or can collaborate with other users for a group effort. You can set up some organization and standards for quality control or to maintain a theme, or leave it freeform. Whatever works best for you.
