Why does Inkscape require dbus?

Hi all, I just found out Inkscape has a dependency on dbus, and as a guy trying to minimize dbus use and eventually kick it off my computer, I have to ask why it's needed by Inkscape. Inkscape is a translator back and forth between an enhanced SVG XML and a hand drawing. What need is there for dbus? The guides... extension script has been updated. This is probably the final update for the foreseeable future. However, a development version which includes a feature for adding guide labels is available. Drop me an e-mail request if you would like to receive a copy. I have an interesting use case senario for Inkscape. I like to be able to print/display text from a specific field from the embeded EXIF data in an image.Has anyone ever done something like this, how did you achieve it?

I note that Inkscape fails to render guide colours when set via SVG editor. Would someone have a try, edit a sodipodi: guide color attribute value, and confirm if it is just me with this issue. Thanks. -u

New video feature: Measure over Items

Hi to all. Here is my last video about meassuring items. Any way measure still works as usual, this is a plus on hover. I think his target is 0.93 because introduce some strings. Dont mark to merge because this last thing. I couldent put the music I want to this video, anyway undertones is the best substitute. R&R.

The latest version of guides... has been uloaded. It includes a feature for switching between operating modes. In addition to Custom mode the user can now select the Target operating mode. In target mode guides are drawn to a selection target, or to the page as the target. Target mode can be used to draw perpendicular guides only. Enjoy! -u

Dear Users and Developers, I've put together an integrated tutorial for the irc chat on inkscape.org and I'd like a few users and support contributors to give it a review: https://inkscape.org/en/*users/chat/ You should see a few things are different now: * You must be logged in to use the chat, previously you could be anonymous. You even must have an email configured, so facebook and twitter logins must update their user profile before chatting. * There is the above guide which add the can_irc permission to a user's account. Confirming they've seen every page (I shorted it to 4 pages). * There's a new IRC bot that offers these new commands: - webbot: whois [username] ; will tell you who a user is and a link to their website profile, in case someone joins the chat asks a question and then leaves without waiting. - webbot: tell [username] [msg] ; will send an alert to the user with a possible response. The default for website message alerts is to email them too. So you can respond to someone who just left. - Get Latest Art ; a bit of fun to return the latest item in the Artwork category on the live site. Returns the link. - If you want further integrations between irc and the website, this is now possible. (maybe good for meetings in the future) I'm hoping these tools will allow users to feel comfortable chatting with us and also provision support contributors with what they need when in chat.
