Overlaying svg files from the commandline

Hi, Im trying to create svg files in an automated manner (with unix shell scripts, command line tools, etc.) All output must be in SVG so that I can open the resulting files later in MS Visio and/or LibreOffice. I figured that one way to achieve this could be : layer existing svg files on top of each other. For example, I might have a (relatively) large svg file that draws a piece of grass or a lawn or something. I then have a (relatively) small svg file that draws a tree. I then draw the tree svg on top of the lawn svg a at a few different places at coordinates x,y. The end result would then be an SVG file of a lawn with some tree's in it. I was wondering if, and if so how, I could achieve this with Inkscape ? So far Ive only managed to convert a single svg image to another svg image like this : inkscape ./foo.svg --export-plain-svg=./bar.svg Is there a way to place small svg files on top of another large svg file, at specified locations in the large svg file, from the commandline, with Inkscape? window opens partly off screen

Hi When opening a file the inkscape window opens partly off screen so the controls to close, maximize and minimize are off screen and I cannot move the window at all. The menu with file, edit,. is also off screen. How can this be fixed? Thank you for your help jake

Main Inscape Window Colour Scheme

I have installed the 64-bit version of Inscape for use on Windows 7, but the colour scheme is dark grey, so that the icons do not show up clearly. The 32-bit version has a cyan colour scheme. I cannot see any option in preferences to be able to change the background colour from grey to cyan. Is this possible, or must I install the 32-bit version? I am very impressed with the program, which will be used to prepare drawings for cutting out parts for making model trains and buildings. Mick

Can't ungroup Conditional Group

Hi, I'm attempting to ungroup this object http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/commons/c/c3/Two-stroke_engine_moving… When I try to do so in Inkscape it identifies the object as having a Conditional Group of 1 Object but then says there are No Groups in the selection when I try to ungroup it. Is this a problem with the file or Inkscape? size a box object according to the size of another box object

Dear list, I have some four boxes on my canvas and would like to resize three of them to the dimension of the fourth. I was unable to find a tutorial or other instructions to achieve this, can someone help me out with a link or word? Thank you! David

But it's nothing magical, it is just a way to organize and coordinate sequential interdependent tasks. It still requires a fair bit of upfront planning and coordination. It's like our traditional Roadmap system on steroids (I bet we could even implement Kanban *within* Inkscape with a bit of coding if we wanted.) The team I was on had only 6 members, and frankly Kanban was a bit overkill for us. I think it's best suited for larger teams. Or maybe teams with finer grained tasks than we had, or that require more intensive team coordination. So, I would love to play with Kanban more in team coordination, but I think for GSoC even if we did have 2-3 students working together I'm skeptical it would help all that much. Bryce

Inkscape joins the Open Invention Network

Inkscape has been invited to join as a member of the Open Invention Network. On Tuesday, the Inkscape Board voted in favor. In so doing we pledge to never use patents aggressively against the Linux System. We would never do this of course so the step is merely symbolic, but an important symbol. We are joining almost 750 projects and companies from the software industry (see http://www.openinventionnetwork.com/licensees.php) in a pledge that covers over 2,100 Open Source packages. This helps to reduce risk on the core Linux System and other middleware technologies. Valer Mischenko of OIN sums it up: "This is the largest community to address software patent challenges in the world. The idea is: when everybody pledges freedom, there will be no wars."
