Hi everyone, the FAQ states that "you can export graphics from Inkscape to use it in Flash". Which is the recommended file format? I am planning to do a very very simple animation, basically just some self drawn shapes moving over the screen. The idea is to draw the backgrounds and moving objects in inkscape and then export to flash. Are there any reports of successfully using inkscape for that? That's a good point you raise about throwing out zeros first because they are not significant digits. It would be interesting to see a script that compressed the image by removing extra digits as Henning suggested, but also allowed you to determine how much loss you were willing to accept. With the range of compression options such as: - lossless where it only throws out zeros eg. .75000000 >> .75, 143.23123576 >> 143.23123576 - lots of loss rounds all coordinates to nearest whole number, all opacity values to two decimal digits (so the percentage is a whole number) eg. .75000000 >> .75, 143.23123576 >> 143 - somewhere in between allows a user to specify how many digits to round off eg. .750 >> .75, 143.23123576 >> 143.231 I'm sure it would be possible to further optimize the compression by doing things like changing path names to shorter values, remove whitespace, convert styles to a style sheet, etc. - Dave -----Original Message----- From: inkscape-user-admin(a)lists.sourceforge.net [mailto:inkscape-user-admin@lists.sourceforge.net] On Behalf Of mental@...32... How to select

Hi, if I have 5 objects, one over the other, partly transparent, and the lowest is not larger, but even smaller than the other ones. What is the most simple way to select the lowest object? Until now, if I didn't put them all on different layers, I always lowered the other objects, but that's a lot of work and sometimes everything gets mixed up. So, is there a smarter way? Some difficulties with the new version of Inkscape

Hi, since I downloaded a new version yesterday I can't use the node tools in the tool-bar anymore. I tried another download today - the same. I still have an older version from oct. 26, there everything works perfectly - like normally :-) Further I get a little mistake-window on every shutdown of the program: after I shut down Inkscape it tells me, that Inkscape has to be shut down - funny somehow. inkscape to OpenOffice Draw?

Hello, I created a couple of graphics with Inkscape (0.39), and I would like to include them in an OpenOffice (1.1.3) Draw document. The problem is that Inkscape can export into ps, eps, svg, inkscape svg, etc. But none of those formats can be read by Draw (except it claims to read ps and eps, but it does not work). Is there a sane way to transfer inkscape graphics into OOo Draw as vectors (and not bitmaps)? Maybe there is an utility under Linux which can convert inkscape svg into something OOo Draw can read? snap to everything

Hello all, I'm trying to daw some technical diagrams with Inkscape. It would be an excellent tool, but the snap feature is driving me mad. I'm not sure if this is a bug or a feature - if I draw a line, then move it, it will snap to grid on the left, centre and right of the line (or top-middle-bottom). It takes away the whole point of snapping, and I end up with a lot of wonky diagrams! Can I turn this off, so that lines will only snap at their centre? TIA Arthur

Hi all, According to Tavmjong's manual (http://tavmjong.free.fr/INKSCAPE/MANUAL/html/ch03s02.html) the ImageMagick Perl module is needed to import AI files into Inkscape. But the suggested link to get it is dead. I've been searching this list's archives, and read about another perl script called ill2svg. Which option is best? Where can I find the latest release of these scripts? How should I install them in a MacOS X environment? Thanks in advance, Herve

saving transparencies in eps

Maybe it would be a good idea to be able to add an alternate way (besides the keys Alt-> and Alt-<) to adjust letterspacing. Because on my keyboard I need to use the shift key already to enter '>'. So I can't use that key for the 10 pixel variant of the key combination anymore. Just an idea.

Hi, Is it possible to reduce the size of a SVG file by cutting off (some or all of) the digits of numbers behind the decimal point automatically? Can this be done within Inkscape or is it possible to write a script to extend Inkscape? (With regular expressions and a scripting laanguage it would be possible but I would like to know if a feature like this already exists. Line art or calligraphy tool tips?

Hello everybody, I'm really excited about the imminent release of 0.43! I've been playing with the latest pre-release and I'm wondering if anyone has tips on the settings for the calligraphy tool. I'd like to use Inkscape, and in particular the calligraphy tool (I think), to do line work for my pencil drawings. (For those of you into comics, I'm essentially wanting to use Inkscape to do my inks digitally.) But so far I can't quite get the sort of taper response I'm looking for. Is it a settings issue or am I asking the program to do something it's not quite ready for? I expect that the problem with this is that, depending on your document's scale, this might end up throwing all the information away. What if your document contains "0.197509,0.18033 C 0.20842,0.17119 0.2439,0.17525", and all your points are between 0.00000 and 0.99999? Not nagging or anything. But I'm checking out the feature request page for that function every day to see if someone has assigned to do it. When that function is added I can switch to inkscape and use it to draw my animations and I'll credit inkscape in the film and the film will atleast show at film festivals in sweden. Problem adding fonts

Hi list, I am running Inkscape 0.42.2 on a Windows XP Pro machine and encountered a strange problem. I did not notice if I was able to successfully add fonts earlier but yesterday I tried to add some and failed to access them trough Inkscape. However, I was able to use some other fonts I remember I installed earlier. Those new fonts I installed yesterday were also available in other graphics programmes I use too. So I searched for the font cache file and deleted it, restarted Inkscape but nothing seemed to have changed, deleted again but the problem persisted. Now, I do not know what to do. Please help me!

splitting a shape into two

Forgive me when I miss the obvious but... I have a shape with all those points along it's path. Let's assume it looks like a "T". Now I want join the two corner points so I end up with two shapes/objects. One looking like "-" and the other one like "|". _ T -> | How can I do that? cheers -- Torsten

Hi list! Today I was install inkscape i686 in my Mandriva LE 2005, but it don't work. When I execute him from konsole I toke this message: inkscape: symbol lookup error: inkscape: undefined symbol: g_build_filenamev I don't know that to do! Please, I need your help! Divergence between Inkscape and librsvg2

Hi, I just made the attached svg graphics with inkscape 0.42.2 and rendered it with librsvg 2.9.5 with the command rsvg --width 160 eumel.svg eumel.png Both files are attached. Problem 1: The 'A' is at a significantly higher position in the png file. When working with inkscape, the 'A' is below the center of the red circle. Problem 2: When trying rsvg --width 80 eumel.svg eumel.png (same as above, just 80 instead of 160) I get the error message *** attempt to put segment in horiz list twice Which of both programs causes these problems? Is it inkscape or rsvg? regards Hadmut

Missing Connector Tool

I'm using Inkscape 0.42.2 on Windows XP. For some reason, I can't seem to find the connector tool. In the reference documentation ( http://tavmjong.free.fr/INKSCAPE/MANUAL/html/ch02s01.html) the connector is shown between the gradient tool and the eye dropper tool; however, in the application that I'm using, it's not there. If I go to the inkscape preferences > tools dialog, I cannot find the connector tool either. Does the tool not exist in this version? If so, which version should I be using? I've attached a screenshot of my version of inkscape for reference. Thanks for the help, - Dave

Move gradient with

When I move objects in my drawing, the gradient stays behind. I don't think it used to do this. Is there a way to make the gradeint move with the rest of the drawing? document boundaries

Hi everyone, I created a document a la inkscape tutorial in inkscape (you can find the links below). I used File | New | no_borders. The problem is this document displays right only in inkscape, at least on my computer. What is wrong? In all the other viewers/editors on my installation, there is only like a small section of the document; this includes inkview (!), scribus, and ksvg (konqueror). When I export the svg to PDF (which was my intention) or PS, the result is the same - only the same old section from the first sixth by the first half of the document. Now, get this. When I view the inkscape tutorial (just any) by inkview, it shows okay. However, it does not show well in scribus or ksvg, nor is the resulting PDF or PS nice at all (missing some images and texts). My questions are, what should I do to make my document view ok in inkview, like the tutorial does? What page, format, or is there another trick? Is there a good paved road to converting an inkscape's document to PDF, so I can show it to other people (on Windows, for example)? Thank you very much in advance. Hello list, Would it make sens to include text scale information via Edit->Paste Style? I am talking about XML editor attribute: transform scale(X,Y) I understand that most objects shouldn't have scale information contained in their style information (so that it doesn't automatically scale the objects that will have this style applied), but isn't text different? How else can I have my text look like other text in the document? Isn't this what most people would need/expect? Karol

Rouge Lines

Sometimes while generating complex drawings I find that I have accidentally created zero width lines. The first I know of this is when printing the document. These lines are quite invisible on-screen unless you *massively* zoom in, and of course know where they are in the first place. They are also very hard to catch and delete. My feeling is that they only show up when printing as the printer has a minimum line width. Would it be possible for Inkscape to incorperate a 'cleanup' feature where such lines/paths can be identified and removed? -- Bungee

It looks right to me. But in your example image the repaint starts in one node point and ends in another node point, and it should not work like that but as you say in the text; start and end can be at any point of the line. But maybe that is clear without changing the example image? I don't know if we need to clearify how the pencil should behave when the start point is on the line but the end point ain't. In illustrator all parts of the line after the start point is removed and replaced by the new line you just drew. Do you follow what I mean? Regards Emil

Problem with text-on-path

I'm trying to recreate a logo (http://users.telenet.be/sacn/logo.png) in vector format. I used the tracing tool for the center image, but for the circle and the surrounding text I started from scratch. But I can't get the text part right. This is more or less what I did: - Add an (invisible) circle as the baseline for the top text. - Use the "Put on path" tool. - Rotate the circle to the correct angle. So far no problem. But when I repeat this for the bottom part of the text (and a copy of the circle), the direction of the text is shown in the wrong direction (clockwise like the text on top). I can get the orientation right by flipping the circle horizontally, but now the text is inside the circle. Is there a way to force the text outside of the circle. (Another possibility would be to have the upper text also inside the circle, but I think this is exactly the same problem.) Jef
