EPS, PDF, PNG support for transparency, gradients

Hi all, I posted this comment on the gnomedesktop.org article about Inkscape and am reposting it here in case none of you read that article. I've just started using Inkscape and am mighty impressed. The collection of tutorials that comes with the program is great and got me up to speed very quickly. I have one major stumbling block to using this program in the way that I want to though: I would like to create vector graphics with Inkscape, then save them to EPS and use those EPS figures in LyX (LaTeX) created documents. Currently (inkscape-0.41-1, lyx-1.3.5-3) I cannot do this with figures that have transparency or gradients. What happens is that EPS exported figures with more than a single layer are completely munged so that a single plane of color is produced. PNG exported are slightly better. So here's a sort of work around if anyone has the same problem: use Scribus to take the SVG file and export it to PDF or PNG. I should add to the above that when exporting a multi-layered SVG document to PDF using Inkscape the same problem occurs. However scribus-1.2.1-3 is able to get the layering and gradient fill correct with PNG exports and the layering correct with PDF exports (but not the gradient, even if I choose the Acrobat-5.0 compatibility) Hope this helps someone out and is useful feedback to the developers whom I must thank again. I made a flyer with front and backside in Inkscape. In OpenOffice.org Draw I could use two pages and print it doublesided. Just had to cut the A4 in for pieces and I have 4 double sided flyers. Can I make a second page in Inkscape and do the same? I didn't find how to add a page in a document. Open Clip Art Library Release 0.11 Announcement

Open Clip Art Library Release 0.11 Announcement March 8, 2005 UTC - Release 0.11 of the Open Clip Art Library (www.openclipart.org) is now available for download on-line as an individual package consisting of 2896 images submitted by over 200 artists from around the world. Some of the new clip art received this month includes more images of food, computer-related items and even a little boombox. In addition to the collected 0.11 package, each clip art file can now be found by keywords using developer Jonadab's new Keyword Search Tool. The Open Clip Art Library is growing rapidly because of increasing submissions from artists. Currently, the top five artists in terms of the amount of clip art submitted are: Danny Allen (951 images), Nicu Buculei (456), Jose Hevia (453), Andy Fitzsimon (250), and Alan Horkan (119). These Artist's and others contributions are the life blood of the Library. While the critical unit of contribution in traditional Open Source is code, it is a little different with the Open Clip Art Library project in that an actual clip art donation is just as helpful as the code supporting it. For March the Open Clip Art Library encourages submissions of clip art related to the concept of "Spring." In the coming months as the library grows in size, the project needs new developers to help build tools to process this growing repository. Upcoming planned features that the project needs assistance on include capturing and tracking of clip art requests, user account management, adding WebDAV support, and developing wizards to aid in composition. Inkscape error

I just installed 0.41 and got this message when trying to run it: "inkscape: error while loading shared libraries: libperl.so: cannot open shared object file: No such file or directory" What does this mean? I do have perl installed. Do I have to install libperl? I couldn't find it anywhere (Mandrake version). Thanks, Wayne MDK 10.1

vectorized EPS?

Hi! I am a new user of Inkscape, and as for now I just have one purpose of this. I want to convert a jpeg-file to a vectorized EPS file? The purpose of this file should be to give the eps-file to a printing company who should create a commersial sign for my small business. Is there anyone of you who can tell me the easiest way to get this eps-file from the existing jpeg-file, if this is possible in Inkscape? Best regards Lars T.

Working with Layers

Is there any way to see what layers you have to work with in inkscape? I kept looking for a Layers Dialog and never found anything to show me what layers I have and what their relation is.
