SVGs from Inkscape do not display correctly in Firefox or EoG

Hi there, I already asked at my employee company (Red Hat) and Ask Fedora, so far got no useful answers. I even created a bug on Fedora (link later in this message) I'm a long time Fedora user and occasional Inkscape user. My main use of inkscape is post-processing of SVG files generated by online tools such as google slides. On Fedora 40 and Inkscape 1.3.2 I find that Firefox and Google Chome cannot render SVGs from Inkscape. They display an empty/white page. And Eye of Gnome displays the same files as an empty transparent background. Issues and workarounds I found on google, such as exporting to SVG 1.1 and configuring preferences related to paths on SVG 1.1 didn't make any difference. To check that I was not crazy, I created a VM with Inkscape 1.1.1 (from RHEL 9) and files from that, strarting from the same google slide, work well on both the older Firefox in that VM and the newer Firefox on my Fedora machine. It seems to be an issue from Inkscape itself. It may be someting specific to SVG files creates from Google Slides. Funny thing is that, a few months ago, SVGs from google wouldn't display in web browser, and would work only after cleaning from Inkscape. Now it's the opposite: the files from google do work as-is, but stop working after cleaning from Inkscape. I opened 2313610 - SVG files from Inkscape don't render in a web browser (nor eog) 4 [1] on Fedora bugs about this issue. It contains two test files, one the export from google slides, other after edits by Inkscape. On the Fedora forums, someone proposed a proprietary tool, Boxy SVG. It can take the file from google slides and make edits, and the results from it work on both EoG and Firefox. But it lacks many features I'm used to from Inkscape, and I'd prefer staying with open source software. And Boxy fails to display files from Inkscape, displaying an empty write rectangle, just like firefox and chrome do. So is this a bug or regression with Inkscape itself? Or something specific to Fedora's build? I got the same issues with both the Flatpack and the RPMs from Fedora. Debian inkscape current stable repo?

Hi there community of my favorite vector graphics editor, I have made the switch to Linux Mint Debian Edition lately, and found that it, naturally, does not accept ppa style packet sources, and the native debian apt repo sadly offers only an outdated version of inkscape. Using the AppImage works, but has disadvantages, as it is not possible to just dock it to the taskbar under Cinnamon, and when I write my own .desktop file for it, still it doesn't group well on the taskbar, and it does not automatically upgrade to the current stable version like using the ubuntu ppa does. Is there a debian-style package source for current stable? I couldn't find one. Other suggestions on solving the above issues? Cheers, Tobias

Question related to path and path ends

Hello, I am not an artist at all, and find inskcape very convinient for doing schematics explaining processes, block diagrams etc. I have 2 questions related to paths and path ends. - When trying to align a path (with an arrow at the end) with another box, I always end-up with the path end "glueing" itself to the box's border. I would have expected that the arrow's end glues itself instead of the path itself, else you are obliged to manualy move the path backwards by a few pixels. - Sometimes I want to "extend" a path with another one. Imagine I have a path going from left to right, with an arrow on its right end. If I want to add another path on its left end, I can do this, for instance starting from the left hand, and going upwards elsewhere. When I do so, at the end, the arrow ends-up being at the new and, instead of staying on the right end, as originaly. I suspect this is because on the original path I had the arrow end being at the "final" end (compared to be beginning), and that by extending the path, I changed the "final" end, the arrow setting itself on this new end instead of staying where it was before. I wanted to share with you these 2 things I am used to now, as they could be frustrating for a new user. Last, thanks for introducing pages in the recent Inkscape version !!! I suggest access to the text tool be placed in the Text submenu

Hi all, In the next version, I suggest access to the text tool be placed in the Text submenu, either right above or right below Text>Text_and_Font. So it would be Text>Text_tool. I haven't looked at the source code in 7 years, but I think this would be as simple as adding menu item Text>Text tool and having it call win.tool-switch('Text') on left click. Icons and hotkeys are wonderful time savers, but in my opinion they don't relieve the need of a functionality being reachable from the menu, so the functionality is reachable without dangerous trial and error. Also, for some unknown reason, Shift-t didn't invoke the text tool, although F8 did. I tried looking for the key bindings, but all I found was in an extension called "Jesseink", and those weren't what was needed. So what do you think? Substituting colors in Inkscape

Hi all, I have a sketch .jpg whose lines are green. I want to convert the green lines to #FF86F8. Is there a way to do this in Inkscape? I know this is really a job for a pixel editor, but now that Gimp requires a PhD to operate, and all the rest of the Linux pixel editors are junk, I'm hoping to get Inkscape to do it. Are there workarounds for dependence on deprecated-simple extensions?

Hi, I'm running - Pop! OS 22.04 LTS - Inkscape 1.1.2 (0a00cf5339, 2022-02-04) - Python 3.10.12 Recently, I went looking for an SVG to POV converter and found the Inkscape Extensions Gallery had an Inkscape to POVray extension -- with a link to a newer, improved version on an external site. Also, while browsing the gallery I thought I might someday use the Render Barcode extension. However, they both want to use simplepath, simpletransform, cubicsuperpath, and cspsubdiv, which I find in /usr/share/inkscape/extensions/inkex/deprecated-simple/, but which the extensions themselves do not find.
