Text over an arc for a logo.

This is an interestng problem that was posed on another list. It involves text enclosed in a rectangle which is altered with a shallow arc across the base instead of a straight line. Therefore the text becomes progressively smaller toward the center and then increases in size again toward the right side. The text remains vertical. The serifs follow the arc. This url points to an example: http://www.saylesdesign.com/portfolio/corpident/project4zoom.htm Further the designer wants the two characters at each end to remain unchanged. The arc takes up 1/3 of the rectangle's width. The text has spaces in it, such as "Joe's Bar and Grill." Problems with Connector Lines

Hi, I have problems using the connector lines. I am editing a document with medium complexity (not too many objects) and at the beginning it worked fine, but after a while the connector lines started to behave very strange (only in this document). When I draw a new connector line, lets say from one circle to another circle and I connect it from the center of the first circle to the center of the second circle it would always snap to the top of both circles and not to the center. Also, the connector line would render on top of the two circles, not below, as it used to behave at the beginning. If I start a new document, everything is fine again. Is there a document specific setting for connector lines that I screwed up? I also checked that the two circles don't have the "inkscape:connector-avoid" attribute set to true in the SVG tree (XML editor), which is not the case. Any ideas what might be wrong in my document? Book on Inkscape

Hello, people. I may have missed it on the mailing list, but I don't think anyone has commented on this book, and I don't see an announcement on the website either. Since, as far as I know, this is the first Inkscape book to be published, I'd say that it should deserve a bit of publicity. So, the data: "Inkscape Starter Kit", by Emilia de Castro Guerra, published by Pearsons Education France, some 250 pages, plus CD-ROM. It would be useful for people wanting to give courses on Inkscape, so that the students have some guide to follow. There are also some tricks and in-depth exploration of functionalities that can be helpful to more advanced users, if only to formalize all that things that we learned by trial-and-error and instinct. Unfortunately, the book is in French (techie and simply written, I suppose, because I don't know the language but I was able to understand most of it). It'd be interesting if they translated it into english or other languages. Hi, is there a easy way to set how much space is between to lines of text? The only way i was able to figure out was to enter a blank line just with a space in it and set the font size of it to something small :) thanks in advance, Florian Ludwig

font selection performance

I used another piece of software for a project instead of Inkscape because of the long wait before I could see the font list after starting to select from the font drop down menu. Is there any way for me to improve the performance via some setting? I am using Inkscape .45.1 on Mac OS X 10.4.9 PowerPC 1.33 GHZ with 1 GB RAM. No other problems on the system.

Effect xml: xml in string

I have a standalone python program that generates svg layouts for 'n-up' printing, like four postcards arranged on a page. Or 30 address labels, or whatever. Trying to package it as an Inkscape effect, I run into something like this: svg_xml_string = foo() reader = Sax2.Reader() content = reader.fromString(svg_xml_string) self.document.documentElement.appendChild(content.documentElement) dies with: xml.dom.WrongDocumentErr: Node is from a different document Well duh. :-) So how can I move svg_xml_string into the Inkscape document tree? I've RTFM'ed on PyXML, but didn't find it. Thanks, Terry

multiple png export

Hi. I use inkscape to draw icons to web pages. I use the export-dialog to create the final png files. I would like to export multi area using only ones the export-dialog, It is enough to add two new parameters to sp_export_png_file: repeat_x, repeat_y. Then in export.cpp make this loop (pseudo-code): for( i=0; i< repeat_x; i++) { for( j=0; j< repeat_y; j++) { if (!sp_export_png_file (sp_desktop_document (SP_ACTIVE_DESKTOP), filename + "_x" + i + "_y" +j, x0+i*width, y0+j*height, x1+i*width, y1+j*height, width, height, xdpi, ydpi, nv->pagecolor, sp_export_progress_callback, base)) } } Another possibility is to add access to sp_export_png_file from the extension API. Again: Text tool in Inkscape 0.45 autopackage

Hi all, since I didn't get any response to my first query, I have to post this again, since the problem is still there: After installing Inkscape 0.45 from the autopackage, Inkscape freezes when I try to invoke the text tool (both by means of the shortcut and the button). Did anyone else experience this, and is there a fix of some kind for this problem? Draw a web site using only Inkscape

Hello, everyone! I'm new to the list, and would like to thank the Inkscape developers for making great free (as in freedom) software and for promoting an important open standard, SVG, as the drawing format. Konqueror 3.5.x ( and Apple's Safari?) and Mozilla Firefox 2.x are SVG enabled, which means children can now draw their web site using only Inkscape and put the linked SVG files directly on the web. This is very easy, a lot of fun, and I find the results are colourful and vivid. I've made a simple example - would you like to see? non standard Inkscape SVG output

I have just started using Scribus for page layout and have had an issue with the import of an SGV created in Inkscape. The image has two lines of text running along two separate curves. When I import the SVG into Scribus I get a message that tells the "SVG file contains unsupported features" and the resulting import has broken the text away from the paths. Are there text/path features in Inkscape which are non-standard or is this a Scribus problem? Interestingly enough an import of the same image when saved as an EPS imports fine. Any ideas? Andy

Help needed on OS X

Hello all, To solve a bug I need a little help from the community. I would need the output of this command: ls -l /usr/X11R6/lib/libXine* Just copy paste the line above in a Terminal and then copy paste the output back in an email. I would need this information from users with 4 different setups: - 10.3.* (Panther) with X11 installed (X11User package) - 10.3.* (Panther) with X11 and X11-SDK installed (X11-SDK is available in the developer tools, when you install XCode and such) - 10.4.* (Tiger) with X11 installed (X11User package) - 10.4.* (Tiger) with X11 and X11-SDK installed (X11-SDK is available in the developer tools, when you install XCode and such) Thank you in advance for your help. Imported png blurred

Hi, I'm working with Inkscape to make some illustrations and noticed some little problem. When I import a png file it losses detail and looks blurred, I attach and image so you see what I'm talking about. Inkscape is a great program and I like it more every time I use it. Hi Import of text in SVG in Scribus is really an issue unless converted to path. If it needs to be edited, you should use Scribus's features directly - if not convert to shape. Cedric Creating "non-flowed" text that has been "Put on Path" still > detaches itself from the path when imported into Scribus. Converting the > text to "regular (non flowed) text" by using the "Convert to text" > command also does not fix the problem - the text is still detached on > import.

offtopic: printing a high image

Hi! I know it is a bit offtopic, but maybe somebody can help me out there. I want to print an inkscape tutorial (hence the inkscape mailing list;), but none of the programs is capable to do it. Here is the original image: http://ic3.deviantart.com/fs13/f/2007/113/7/3/a_Quick_Guide_to_Inkscape_by_… I tried firefox, but prints only the first page, so the image is cutted at the top. And after that: gimp (with gimp-print plugin), gthumb, inkscape, evince. None of them was I successful. Any ideas?

Layers Dialog Mockup.

The other day, i decided to lock an object using the "lock" checkbox in the properties dialog box, and when i wanted to edit this object again, the only way i could find to unlock it was to edit the XML using the XML editor. This got me thinking, how could an easier way be implented? microUgly and i were throwing around some ideas at http://inkscapeforum.com/ and we thought, why not be able to change these properties of objects in the layers dialog box? anyhoo, the moral to my rambilings is that i did a simple mockup of how this may work: please tell me what you think... mockup: http://wiki.inkscape.org/wiki/images/Layersmockup.png cheers, ryanlerch
