Icon modification

some clever script for automation of plot annotation?

Hello guys, I would like to ask for some insights and hints as to how to solve the following small problem. I am creating plots for my thesis. These plots are created in Matlab and I edit them later in Inkscape. What I mostly do is to change markers for points in the plots, annotate the plots, and the like. Now the problem. I have a plot with 5 lines, each line corresponding to an experiment. Each line has 180 points somewhere around it; these points are the actual data about the theoretical line. Now, I need to *replace* each of points by a beautiful marker of mine. The reason is that Matlab creates only a limited number of rather ugly markers. These markers are also converted (either by Matlab or epstool) into strokes each having 70 points :( :( So, Inkscape slows down and my file bloats. What I was doing so far and what I am tired of is that I manually select a point and its cloned marker and then using the alignment dialog align them over each other. Then I remove Matlab's markers for good. While this works OK, you can imagine how tired I am. I was playing with the idea of manually parsing the XML file in Perl but I rejected the idea as sure way to mess up the document. The Matlab's markers have custom color that I assigned to them so that I can easily find the points I need to replace... Does anybody have an insight into how to do this is more or less Inkscape fashion? I am not afraid of scripting in Inkscape, but I haven't gotten a chance to try it yet. Or am I missing some obvious "group and align the whole" idea? Thank you for tips! David

Tiling

I am playing with tiling as a possible solution to drawing mandalas. Using 'Symmetry: reflection+reflection' in TileClones, with a 2x2 array, comes close, but requires selecting Create in the TileClones everytime a new object is added to the group of the main tile. When an object in this main tile group is moved, resized, or deleted, then the clones immediately reflects the change, but not when a new object is added to the group. Apparently, when a new object is added, the id of the group is changed and it then is no longer linked to the clones. I am a total newbie with this program, so I was hoping for some advice on how to force the main tile to remain with it's old id, linked to the clones, when a new object is added to its group. Thanks ahead for any help.

Thumbwheel widgets on tool bar too small

The thumbwheel widgets on the second toolbar for X,Y,W and H are too small. For numbers greater than 99, e.g. 165.68, the second digit after the decimal point is clipped so as to be unreadable. I am running Ubuntu Breezy Linux at 1024x768 resolution. Can anything be done on my end to fix this?

Effects menu dont showing

Hi! I have upgraded to 0.43 in debian SID (couple of day ago). I dont have the Effects menu anymore (0.42+0.43pre2 had it) I have python-xml installed, and there are the effects in /usr/share/inkscape/extensions/ Does anybody know how can I figure out why the Effects menu does not exist? newbie trouble with grid snapping

I have just installed and am learning inkscape 0.42. I can see a rectangle snapping to guide lines, however I cannot see it snapping to grid lines. I have set snap distance from the default 0.4 to several hundred with no noticible difference in snapping to grid lines. What am I missing?

PDF Support in Inkscape

Hi all, I've been noticing a LOT of requests for PDF/PS support in Inkscape. Either export or import or both. I'm fairly certain that this is the #1 top feature need for Inkscape right now. Over the past year or so, I've been fishing around for a volunteer to implement this. But unfortunately I'm coming up dry. Ain't no one I can find with an itch to implement this, not on a volunteer basis anyway. However, there are a TON of users with this need. Some of whom, I'm fairly certain, would be willing to pledge some money towards it. Maybe a little, maybe a lot, who knows. I think if enough people pitched in funds, we could actually make this happen. This is one feature I think we as a community could just force through, by hiring some mercenary to attack and kill it for us, hardcore style. Can you all tell me what you think? I really have no solid idea if enough people would be open to this plan. Are you a user that'd be willing to pledge $100 or more towards this? Are you a developer that'd be willing to commit to doing this work for some $k? Or do you have some ideas on how we could make this need get met? Please email me and let me know what you think. latex font

Hello i was wondering if it is possible to insert some text, latex formatted, in a figure, like letters with super(sub)scripts or greek letters and so on... i tried to see the options 'text-font' in inkscape but the window options lets me only to change the text inserted in and not any other typesetting specials thank you very for any help -- roberto GNU/Linux, debian sarge 2.6.8-2-386

CRIME SCENE DRAWING

I have complied an SVG library of crime scene symbols (all public domain). They are all in the margin around a canvas making it a single svg document. This makes crime scene drawing very quick and simple. Its sort of a computerized template that law enforcement can easily relate to. The drawback is that the file is large (approx. 4.5 mb). I would like to upload it and get some feedback. Any law enforcement feedback would be even better. If there are any suggestions on how to get this posted please let me know.

bezir to yarn

Hello! I'm new to incscape and vector graphics. I created a bezir curve for a Text (looks like hand written with some extras on the start and end, and should look like made of yarn. Now the curve looks fine to me (even if it is very thin at the moment). Now I would like to make it look like a real yarn, but with different colors. So I created a gradient for the colors I want to have. But when I use this, the text seems to be gradiented from left to right, but I would like to have it over my 'yarn'. So is it possible somehow to tell incscape to do Like my bezir curve is a yarn? Do you know what I mean? Thanks for your help. Martin

Windows hiding/Layer list

Hi 1. Wouldn't it be more comfortable for us user to set up a message board on inkscape.org instead of a nerdy mailing list that fills up mailboxes with unwanted discussions? 2. I have been playing around with the Windows version. It's nice, but I'd like to see some features and changes: - When I have the document window opened in fullscreen, then open a dialogue window or similar and work on the document again, the dialogue windows disappear behind it. I've seen this behaviour on The GIMP as well and it's damn annoying. Would it be difficult for a coder to change it so the dialogue boxes and menus stay on top? - I mainly use Expression 3 for vector and really like that there is a layer window, so the user can easily choose and rearrange the objects. I haven't found out if Inkscape has this function as well, I have only seen that drop down menu at the bottom which is quite poor compared to Expression/Illustrator and other programs... is there an option to activate a box listing all the layers or is it planned to code something like that?

New Extention Collect images/Publish Zip

Hello, I've created my first extention for inkscape. Though it needs some work we use it allready and it's is quite usefull. Its called "Publish Zip" and resides in the filters menu. It does the following: - it copies all linked images to the current dir en modifies all links to be relative - it creates a zip containing the document and the linked images. The zip can be mailed and opened by someone else with all images correctly displayed. You can find it here: http://sourceforge.net/tracker/index.php?func=detail&aid=1364270&group_id=9… known problems: - Document has to be saved first - to create a correct svg-document in the zipfile pubzip has to be run, then the document has to be saved, then pubzip has to be run again. - it fails with an ugly error when document is never saved before. Hi! I have saved my .svg file in inkscape (couple of day ago), and I wanted to continue work on this file, but does not load anymore in inkscape. shape question

Hey folks, I am a fairly new user of Inkscape and was wondering how I can create a square that has rounded corners on the top, but streight corners on the bottom? So far, I've noticed there are only 3 nodes which I can use to modify my square. One of which is used to round the corners- but it does all 4. Is there a way I can only select 2 of the 4 corners to round? Thanks- I hope this makes sense. Patrick

Inkscape static 686 rpm install on two FC3 installations

Hi, I downloaded the static 686-specific rpm from sourceforge and installed it on my FC3 which doesn't have any devel libs etc. installed - I chose "personal desktop" setting when I installed FC3. The installed inkscape is working perfectly well on this one. However, I installed the same static 686-specific rpm on another FC3 installation with a few more things (MySQL, PostGreSQL, Apache, etc) installed and there I can't get it to run. It emits an error that some-lib.so is needed. Why don't I get the same error on the other FC3 installation? What has a static rpm to do with an .so lib? Please help. -- Asif
