Open svg file with specified 'step', 'unit' and 'border' values from the command line.

How can Inkscape open an existing .svg file with pre-selected Inkscape & Document options? Is there a command line option to specify a template other than the default, or specify preferences without opening a Dialog? I've played with the --verb-list and grep'd through hundreds of extensions for the past 6 months, and haven't found an answer. I need to set the 'step' value to 56.25, set the document and ruler units to 'cm', and set the border values to 3cm. If you have concrete examples of setting these values outside of the GUI, that would be appreciated. If there is no current way to do this, how do I submit a request to add a command-line option to specify document & inkscape prefs without using the --Dialog options? - Susan

Ink 0.48.1 gradients and PDF

Hi, Noticed today that if you have gradients that go to alpha 0% then they do not show up in a (save copy) PDF. I have fairly old software, so perhaps my gnome PDF thing is out of date, but when I made the gradients go to white + alpha 100% (i.e. opaque) then the gradients worked in the PDF. Any word on the rules in this regard? \d

Mad thought - clones and paths

Hi, Here's a situation: You have an original path, say a seagull. You make a clone for someplace else. But, you need that clone to *act* more like an actual path than a clone. Say you want it to punch-out (subtract) from some other path. Now you could use the original seagull path, but that can be dangerous because it's your master drawing. To punch out some other path, you would have to *move* the 'master' to the precise position and then make a copy and fiddle with z-order and then do the subtraction op. And, say you are doing this many times - adjusting as you go. Now, if I could make a "path clone" and use it like a tool, that would solve the problem. I alter the master, the path-clone changes. I re-punch the other path. Loop until satisfied. There are other situations I have found where I wish a clone could be a path and still be a clone, I just can't recall them. Would there be some way to drive this by Python? I could point a path at a clone (or the master) and say 'take this shape' (i.e. an update of the path to match the source). It would be great if the two could remain linked and auto-update as the source changes shape. \d

Variable blur around a shape

Hi, is it possible to have a blur on (say a circle) that is bigger on one side than on the other? I need some shadow areas that have a stronger blur (wider/larger) along some sections that on others - all one shape though. Perhaps there's some clever way to do this with clipping or masking? \d

Call for Participation - SVG Open conference

Hi Inkscape users and developers, I would like to remind the Inkscape users that the call for participation of the annual SVG conference is due in a few days. The conference takes place from October 17 to 20 at the US east coast, in Cambridge, MA. As one of the organizers I would like to invite Inkscape developers and users to present on topics related to SVG editing. We often had an Inkscape dev representative at the past SVG Open conferences presenting the current improvements or discussing problems related to the SVG file format. We also have an Inkscape representative (Jon Cruz) on the conference reviewing team. This year, the conference host is Microsoft, but the organization is from an independent committee that changes from year to year. You can find information on the conference at http://www.svgopen.org/2011/ and the call for participation at http://www.svgopen.org/2011/participate.shtml - we may extend the deadline for abstract submissions for a couple days. If you would like to present at the conference, but have financial troubles attending the conference, please let me know. We may have some limited funding for Open Source developers who are presenting at the conference. We can waive the registration fee and help out a bit with travel costs. not responding, well almost

Hi, Just popup inkscape to do a little drawing and something strange is happening. I can select tools, colors any menu and option but I can't do anything to the canvas. If i select the pen tool I can make a stroke. or a square using the square tool. Nothing. I check that the layers is not locked and tried opening existing images and it's the same the image is dislayed everything looks fine but I can't do anything on the Canvas. Any idea? eehh!! muchas gracias a todos por su ayuda!!! :) Y en sus paises manejan algo como un LUG para Inkscape... o sólo se especializan en ese tema.. y les gusta ayudar? les agradezco mucho todo!!! yo todavía me siento un poco novata con inkscape, aunq trato d migrar todo lo q hago para invitaciones, afiches, tarjetas de presentación a Inkscape.. siento q todavia me falta mucho por aprender!! :)! Charla para Flisol

hola! :) mi nombre es Andrea Rodas y me encanta Inkscape!! Soy de Guatemala :)! pero.. he aprendido, Inkscape autodidacticamente, siento q Inkscape es muy intuitivo... me ha tocado dar un taller de inkscape en el flisol de mi ciudad.. y me gustaria dar algo realmente bonito, pq las maravillas d inkscape deben ser contadas jeje :)! pero.. ustedes tienen en algun lugar.. alguna presentación base, q me puedan brindar? para darla en el FLISOL? Fill Tool Oddness

Hey all, I can't seem to use the fill tool in Inkscape (v0.48 on OS X). Trying to fill a rectangle object with a 0.010 mm line width (stroke color: blue) with no fill while sectioning off a chunk with a two-node straight line cutting through the upper half. I tried filling the area, but it only filled it and left a weird uneven margin on the end ( http://www.flickr.com/photos/25968780@...2823.../5552182877/). Clicking the white margin doesn't do anything. I also tried changing the line width to something thicker, making it the same color as the straight line, but same seems to have no effect. Checked for gaps, found none. I also tried changing the threshold, but that just made it not fill anything at all. What am I doing wrong? Thanks, -- david [.dh] huerta heatsynclabs.org
