Can not launch inkscape in Mac Leopard 10.5.2

Hi, all, I try run Inkscape at my Leopard 10.5.2, I just get a message showing that (the attached file) " while inkscape is open, its windows can be displayed or hidden by displaying or hiding the X11 application. The first time this version of Inkscape is run it may take several minutes before the main window is displayed while font caches are built." This message told me that I need to wait several minutes. But I have waited for several hours, and not thing happen. Can any one tell me what should I do? I have update the X11 to Xquartz 2.2.1. Bibi, You can do rounded, squared or mitered mats using thick strokes on duplicates of your shapes, placed behind the original filled shape. New user and want to resume painting

Hi! My name is Fahad Fateh and I am from Pakistan. By profession I am a researcher and I love colors. I used to paint but few years back I left painting. And now I want to resume. Right now I am using Adobe Flash because I knew that software but I want to move to Inkscape for three reasons. Its open source, its for graphics and because pen support is native. And before I started, I wanted to discuss what is an appropriate way to start. Start painting using Inkscape. Should I copy others, should I draw small things first or should I sketch first using pencil and paper and move to Inkscape later? My earlier experience includes art work back in school and two oil paintings. Any books for recomendation? Thanks, Fahad

So, Who all is going to make it to LGM for 2008? For those of us not able to make it there this year, knowing who could represent Inkscape and bring up issues, meet people, etc, would be very useful. Thanks.

Keep Inkscape running after closing single or last document (survey)?

All: Who would like Inkscape to keep running after you close a single document or the last document so that you can immediately start a new document without relaunching Inkscape? I find this behaviour very annoying and contrary to the way most document-oriented applications on all operating systems work. MDI type applications (such as OpenOffice.org) keep a blank grey window frame open into which you can start a new document. SDI type applications (such as the open-source Notepad++ on Windows) open a new blank document when you close the last open document. Gimp keeps a small "launch" palette open when all documents are closed. File > Close should close documents (creating a new empty document if only one document is open). File > Quit should close ALL open documents (giving you the chance to save unsaved work) and then close the Inkscape application. The window frame should have an application-instance close [X] icon at the RH end and the menu bar should have a document close X icon at the RH end. One more vote in favour of keeping Inkscape running in some way after closing the last document, so that the next one can be opened without a need to re-load Inkscape. Nicer SVG support outside Inkscape?

Hello, This is more of a whish than anything else, but perhaps raising the issue will grab some attention from the developers of other SVG rendererers out there. The basic problem is that graphics generated with Inkscape usually don't display just as nice in other platforms --- specifically, text kerning and colours and other properties get screwed up, as do images sometimes. This is an important blocker to the creation of SVG wallpapers, or icons that contain some of the poorly supported features, or for using SVG and Inkscape for purposes other than illustration. Right now I am preparing a presentation, for example. It isn't too much of a fuss to pass a series of commands through the terminal and generate PNG versions of all the SVGs, but it would just be a smoother process if I could take any image viewer (like Ristretto or Gthumb) and cycle through the images. Inkview does a great work in representing the SVG from Inkscape accurately. So, my question is: why aren't other projects borrowing code from Inkview and using it to paint their own SVGs? Making an axonometric linedrawing by manually tracing a 3D-Cad screenshot

I do have some questions concerning technical linedrawings with inkscape: 1. I take a screenshot of 3D-CAD a model that is rotated in a standard axonometric view. For example an isometric projection 30°-30°. 2. I import the screenshot into inkscape. 3. In "inkscape preferences" dialog in option "steps" Is set "rotation snaps every" to 30°. 4. By holding down "Strg" I can easily trace the screenshot. However when I have the 3D-CAD model rotated to some other axonometric view, for example 25-25°. This helpful technique is no more possible, since I can only choose from a list of predifined values in "rotation snaps every". I´d like to put in any kind of value. Should this be on the wishlist? Another question: I want to move an object along a defined axis. When I hold down "strg" I can move a selected object along the vertical and horizontal axis. Are there ways and techniques in inkscape to do that kind of thing along any kind of axis.
