Patterns and shadows not exported to pdf

Hello, I got a weird problem and wonder: I have some objects filled with patterns as well as some shadows. I do not manage it to export everything to pdf. My objects do not contain any pattorns or shadows. I avoided to work with opacities as i read somewhere, that transparency is not valid in pdf. But still, my patterns do not contain any transparency and a shadow only blurs (or is bluring connected to opacity)? Anyway, even when I eface the shadows, my patterns are still not exported. Using Inkscape 0.46 on ubuntu gutsy. Does anyone have an idea? I definetely need my files in pdf-format...

Grayscale images

I was dinking around around with filters again (can't seem to stop playing with them). By adding an feColorMatrix filter and adjusting the saturation only I was able to turn a color jpeg image into a grayscale image. That got me thinking...is this the best way to apply grayscale to a picture? Seems like I would want to do this with the Raster effects instead but I do not see it at first glance. Have any of you needed or wanted to apply grayscale to something in Inkscape? How do you go about it? heathenx

We have node sculpting and the tweak tool, what I think would be a great companion to these would be something like Blender's Lattice modifier, where you can take a complex shape and sort of "cage" it with a simpler shape, and use the simpler shape to proportionally "sculpt" the more complex one by moving the nodes in the simple shape, sort of like using the nodes of a simple bezier curve as handles to control the overall shape of a more complex multi-node curve. ...it's just a thought. ____________________________________________________________________________________ Be a better friend, newshound, and know-it-all with Yahoo! wish - select amount of simplification of lines

Hello, I'd like to request a feature, or else, a option to a tool already in inkscape. When working with nodes, we can use "simplify path", but we cannot choos _how much_ simplification we want. It would be very very very nice to be able to do so. Inkscape does not recognize font-variant:small-caps;

I have tried to change the font variant in the xml editor from normal to small caps, but after I do this in inkscape (xml editor) that property disappears as soon as I indicate set style. If take the file and then just type text and leave font variant normal in inkscape, but edit the font variant in a text editor the change stays, but once I open the file in inkscape the font is no longer what I specified even though in the xml editor I can see that it IS the font that I specified. Filter Effects example in SVN

A fellow Inkscape user sent me a link from the SVN repo regarding a filter effect svg example file. There are quite a few different effects inside of this file which I think many of us users would appreciate having. Is it possible to get this file posted on openclipart? I'm not sure who authored the svg file but WOW!, what a nice gift. This person should be lifted up on our shoulders and paraded down main street. :) Besides Tav's filter effects manual and some other write-ups here and there, this is a pretty great resource for understanding filters. New Cairo PDF Export mangles font kerning (OS X)

I have an old map project that I've updated for the new year with Inkscape .46 - I then send it off to the printers as a PDF. However this time the old method for PDF export has been removed and replaced by cairo. It works, but the font kerning is all wrong - the letters seem to be spaced too far apart. This is much worse for small font sizes than for large font sizes - could it be an issue of precision? Here are some pictures of a magnified part of my document. Bug triaging help needed

Heya all, Have you been enjoying Inkscape and wondering about an easy way to contribute back? Bug triaging may be for you! Bug triaging is basically our first line step in the process of handling bugs. It's like being the host in a restaraunt - you don't fix the bugs, you just make sure the reporter has been greeted and find where they should sit. You can see the problem we're trying to solve by just looking at this plot: http://people.ubuntu.com/~brian/project-graphs/inkscape/plots/inkscape-mont… Or, this one is less intimidating since it shows the progress we'd made prior to the release: http://people.ubuntu.com/~brian/project-graphs/inkscape/plots/inkscape-half… (There is a friendly navigation web thingee here: http://people.ubuntu.com/~bryce/Plots/) The job is to keep our total # of New bugs at as close to 0 as possible. We're up towards 200 now, so there's a bit of work to get caught up on, but once that's caught up you can see that there's a rate of about 3 new bugs/day. Triaging is pretty easy; anyone can do it - you just need to sign up for a launchpad bug account. (For extra triaging powers you can also join the Inkscape bug team.) Then you read each bug report that comes in, and make sure it has all the necessary information for developers to troubleshoot it. So for example, this may include asking people to include screenshots, steps to reproduce the issue, backtraces, and/or example files; then you set it to Incomplete state. Then, you also review bugs that are in 'Incomplete with response' and check if they've included the needed info, and move them into Completed state. You can see the bugs still in Incomplete state via the Plots link above. And that's pretty much it. If you are looking for a way to contribute some help to Inkscape that doesn't require an extensive time commitment, this is one of the easiest ways to make a difference. Plus it's addictive! You can track your "karma score" at this link: https://launchpad.net/inkscape/+topcontributors Getting yourself up into the top 5 is a good challenge if you have the interest and time to put into it. I removed the ellipses in the background. I don't know where to file the bug report you talked about. Would you have a url..? First the texts don't look so straight, and second some spacing appears within words in the pdf files (see the french http://www.thalasoft.com/brochure_fr.pdf at "Le web est notre langue commune") where there is none in the svg files. Which fonts should I use..? I do not need anything fancy at all, just working fonts to get an okay looking pdf file. The problem is the ellipses in the background are each drawn in the PDF with an soft mask due to the fill/stroke opacity set to less than 100%. This means each individual ellipse is drawn to an image buffer the size of the page, the mask function is drawn to another image buffer the size of the page. The ellipse image is then composited with the mask image back on to the page. With all the ellipses on the page this is not going to be fast. The workaround is to set the master opacity to 100% and instead use the alpha in the stroke paint to control the transparency. This is something that should be optimized in Inkscape. Currently Inkscape calls cairo_paint_with_alpha() when the opacity is less then 100%. This is required to handle the general case of drawing a combined fill and stroke to prevent a translucent stroke compositing with the fill. Calling cairo_paint_with_alpha() results in a soft mask being used in the PDF file. If only a fill or stroke is drawn, Inkscape should instead adjust the alpha value of the fill or stroke and avoid calling cairo_paint_with_alpha(). pdf files slow to appe

Dear all, I installed inkscape 0.46 on Kubuntu 8.04 and can now save as pdf with pdf files having a very reasonable file size of barely under 100kb. Good! But I still have an issue and wonder if there isn't something wrong with my pdf files. I have put them at http://www.thalasoft.com/brochure_en.pdf http://www.thalasoft.com/brochure_se.pdf http://www.thalasoft.com/brochure_fr.pdf for you to see. They are very slow to load up in the kpdf reader, something like 10 seconds to appear.. Are you having the same time delay when opening these pdf files..?
