Gradients Gimp and Inkscape

I'm trying to create SVG gradient files in inkscape that gimp can read. I'm importing a PNG file and then hitting "G" for the gradient select. Then I export to a SVG file. When gimp picks up this file, it has lost all it's color and looks like a black to transparent gradient. I've been through the doc's and have googled this for hours now. I'm new to inkscape, so I'm probably missing something obvious. Does anyone have any clues they can share? System: Suse Linux 10.2/32 Gimp 2.4 (With SVG enabled) Inkscape 0.45 TIA, Jim

Circles separating from gradient

I don't think my last message got posted b/c I wasn't signed up to the group yet so here it is again. In this file, why doesn't the gradient I put on the circle stay with the circle? If I move the circle, it moves, but the gradient stays pegged to the center of the page. Other pen "shapes" for caligraphy tool?

Is there a way to change the shape of the calligraphy tool "nib". I found the setting for capping the end (can't remember what it was called) to mimic a round tip (at the end of the strokes. What I was hoping to do was emulate a split or notched tip to get parallel strokes that respect the stroke weight and gravity. -Rob A

Fleshtones Palette

I have created a GIMP palette for skin, eyes, hair, and lips. Hello again, well, i made some changes: i tried to follow suggestions about text colors and changed to a delicate ivory the pink ones , i've changed most of the purple titles and links to a vivid fucsia to avoid darkness in older monitor too. Honestly i can't tell you if this is an improvement but maybe i just need to get used to. I followed nicu suggestion about image size, this is what i've done: now the limit is at 1600x1600px, we had some problems with php timeout, but the hosting provider "diciannove" is our friend and they fixed right away. Nothing changed apparently but if you have a big screen you'll surely notice that the "test" image i posted takes all the screen window. I could use a landscape image to make it clearly visible, but what happens now is that if you have a 1600px wide monitor and you'll see the image (a 1600px wide image, clicking on the thumbnails or on the image in the full node view too) you will have the entire screen filled by the image powered by jquery thickbox. Pretty cool... ;-) Please give me feedback about the colour scheme changes, at this point you're the jury. :-) Da.

Woo-Hoo Thanks to Kurt I was able to pull together an extension. It is ungainly slow because of the whole "calling another instance of Inkscape" deal , but it does work. This provides an option of restacking the selected objects in a direction (left to right, right to left, top to bottom, or bottom to top) as well as the point of each object to compare (top left, bottom middle, etc). Attached are before and after samples, as well as the extension. It registers as "Effects->Modify Path->Restack" I am running on Inkscape 0.46dev+devel, built Apr 28 2007, so ymmv if running .45 -Rob A>

Hopefully, this time will work. I don't understand why the yahoo mail program deletes those lines. As far as I know Inkscape currently rasterizes linked SVGs before placing them, which might explain the trouble you are having. There is a bug report requesting better support for linked SVGs at https://bugs.launchpad.net/inkscape/+bug/171795 . "behind fill" for outlines?

Hello all. There is a nice feature in Corel Draw, that I'd like to ask if it could be included in Inkscape. Or if already is there, please point me out how to use it. In CD, it is called "behind fill", and it is an option for outlines. You see, the outline "grows" both to the outside and to the inside of the given object. With "behind fill" turned on, we can only see the outside part of the outline, as if it were placed behind the object. One workaround for this is to duplicate the object, apply an outline, and put it behind the other object (without outline).
