Inkscape 0.44.1 Unleashed :: Download Now :: Inkscape.org The Inkscape community announced the release of Inkscape 0.44.1 today. This bugfix version fixes several weeks of work by the community in order to fix some crashes on windows, Mac OS X, and other packaging issues which have come up from our last successfule release, 0.44 which introduced substantial features like graphical layers, clipping and masking support, and native PDF export with transparency. Here is a full list of bug fixes in this version: * fix a crash on Windows ("python.exe can't find msvcrt71.dll") by providing that dll in the package; * fix hang in page size widget * on Mac OS X, removed problems with home folder path names containing spaces; * inkscape now finds libpng include headers on some systems where it previously failed to do so * several changes to allow compiling on glib-2.4 systems (e.g. RHEL4); * allow compiling on systems with incomplete boost library headers; recognize if boost is too old * inkscape now compiles with gcc-4.2.x. * fixed a bug where stderr output from scripts was not shown * fixed a bug affecting the recent files menu * resolution information is now saved in exported PNG files * fix some ODG export bugs * fix dia import * fix several include issues affecting building on Solaris (there are still some more problems, at least under Solaris 8, and similar ones on OpenBSD) * added missing German version of the advanced tutorial and made corrections to the calligraphy one; added missing Czech, German, and Brazil-Portuguese tutorials to tarball; added missing German keytable to tarball * applied changes to the German and Spanish translations of Inkscape strings * interactivity improvements at high zooms * fix for specifying CSS colors with percentages * re-enabled old PDF exporter alongside the new one * minor fixes to new PDF exporter (a major overhaul is still in the works) * fixup for invalid "s odipodi" namespace which has become widespread in Inkscape documents * Mac OS X packaging updates * miscellaneous build fixes Please visit www.inkscape.org and see what you would like to help the project in solving. Hi all, I do not use Inkscape to print, but Adobe Acrobat (since you do not want tiling, the Reader version should be fine). The steps that I follow are (roughly): 1) Download the latest Windows version (inkscape-LATEST.zip); 2) Run it, select/make the appropriate page size, draw; 3) Save as "PDF" and save as "Cairo PDF" and compare both PDFs (in particular if you have transparencies); 4) If I am using a "fancy" page-size that I created. I make sure I have that page size available in Windows. In case you must create one the steps are: Go to "Start\Printers and Faxes" Go to "File\Server Properties" Under the "Forms" tab I create the appropriate form (i.e. page size) and save it with a nice name. 5) Open the PDF in Adobe Acrobat and print it. But note that: - You must check under the document properties (Ctrl+D) that the page size is correct. - Remember to select the appropriate paper size for the pirnter (inside "File\Print..." then "Properties" and in "Advanced..."); - Selecting Adobe to rescale or not should not provide different results, but these can happen. So it is worth testing. I am able to print huge and/or custom works this way without problems in many different printers. Wild wild guess: if everything else fails, try printing an exported bitmap with a resolution of 600 dpi or less. _________________________________________________________________ Search from any Web page with powerful protection. Since you cannot select the fancy size, then you probably have a custom size option in that dialogue or the printer is able to handle anything you send to it. I just created a 8.5"x22" drawing and them saved it as a PDF and Acrobat Reader tells me the correct document size (i.e. the same one as in Inkscape). Announcing: A TTF font manager for Gnu/Linux.

Hello all on the lists, I have released a font manager for Gnu/Linux. Sorry Windows users - go and look for a free app called "The Font Thing" it rocks. I can adjust it to work on Mac OS-X, but will need a volunteer to help me. I am a designer and I missed the ability to view fonts, sort them into collections and install/remove those collections. It was an itch I simply had to scratch and I ended-up using wxPython to solve the problem. With Fonty Python you can select ttf fonts and put them into "pogs" (from the word typography). You can place fonts into pogs from a folder or from another pog. You then install the pog you need. After that, you fire-up Inkscape and those fonts *should* appear in the font dialogue. You do your design, and when you are done and don't need them anymore, you simply remove the pog! It's there for next time. It really helps to keep fonts organized per project/client/job, whatever. If you are interested in trying it out, you can get it from: https://savannah.nongnu.org/projects/fontypython I am still "moving" into the Savannah website, I hope to have a short manual and so forth in the near future. The tarball (the download file) contains a README that you should consult. Please let me know your experiences with it. Printing Documents

In my never ending search for a solution to my printing problem (printing custom sized documents) I can across the following: http://forums.techguy.org/business-applications/497368-printer-application.… Some folks in the know believe it is an Inkscape coding issue. Inkscape experts, please let us know what you think. I noticed on the Inkscape wiki site that there is/was a survey concerning printing from Inkscape. It appears that the question has arisen before. PLEASE, Inkscape coders, if there is something you could do to help lost souls like me print their documents, look into this. I know I am not alone in this request (wiki question). Thank you once again.... jt (I tried the save as options, I tried the GSView method, I tried every suggestion that folks were kind enough to send me. use, xlink:href, and external svg

I have a group of SVG documents which have a lot of objects in common; what I'd like to do is have a 'library' document which contains defs of those objects and then reference them in the other documents instead of repeating them umpteen times. I thought that I could achieve that by putting objects in the <defs> part of my library document, e.g., <defs> <rect id="somerect" ... /> </defs> and then referencing the objects elsewhere like this: <use xlink:href="lib.svg#somerect" ... /> This seems not to work with Inkscape. (It does seem to work with Batik, but not if the href URL is relative.) Am I doing this incorrectly or is it unsupported? -- J.

Changing page size default from A4 to US Letter

Hello, Is there a configuration file or preferences location to change the default startup page size of A4 to US Letter (or any other format)? I've looked through the wiki and version .44 preferences without any success. I know that it will save the page, once changed, with the document that you save. But, I was hoping to find a way to change the default when the application is launched. I tend to forget that it uses A4 by default and would prefer to change it globally. Any help is appreciated. How do I create a node at intersection of two lines?

Is it possible to create a node point at the intersection of two lines from different objects? I tried using the constructive geometry primitives in the Path menu (union, intersection, exclusion, difference, etc.), but these were not quite flexible enough for what I want to do. It seems like the lowest geometry primitive would be to find the intersection of two lines. Here is an example of what I'm trying to do: http://www.noah.org/intersect/index.html I had to fake this by adding a node and visually moving the node point until it appeared to be at the intersection.
