Announcing: A TTF font manager for Gnu/Linux.

Hello all on the lists, I have released a font manager for Gnu/Linux. Sorry Windows users - go and look for a free app called "The Font Thing" it rocks. I can adjust it to work on Mac OS-X, but will need a volunteer to help me. I am a designer and I missed the ability to view fonts, sort them into collections and install/remove those collections. It was an itch I simply had to scratch and I ended-up using wxPython to solve the problem. With Fonty Python you can select ttf fonts and put them into "pogs" (from the word typography). You can place fonts into pogs from a folder or from another pog. You then install the pog you need. After that, you fire-up Inkscape and those fonts *should* appear in the font dialogue. You do your design, and when you are done and don't need them anymore, you simply remove the pog! It's there for next time. It really helps to keep fonts organized per project/client/job, whatever. If you are interested in trying it out, you can get it from: https://savannah.nongnu.org/projects/fontypython I am still "moving" into the Savannah website, I hope to have a short manual and so forth in the near future. The tarball (the download file) contains a README that you should consult. Please let me know your experiences with it. Printing Documents

In my never ending search for a solution to my printing problem (printing custom sized documents) I can across the following: http://forums.techguy.org/business-applications/497368-printer-application.… Some folks in the know believe it is an Inkscape coding issue. Inkscape experts, please let us know what you think. I noticed on the Inkscape wiki site that there is/was a survey concerning printing from Inkscape. It appears that the question has arisen before. PLEASE, Inkscape coders, if there is something you could do to help lost souls like me print their documents, look into this. I know I am not alone in this request (wiki question). use, xlink:href, and external svg

I have a group of SVG documents which have a lot of objects in common; what I'd like to do is have a 'library' document which contains defs of those objects and then reference them in the other documents instead of repeating them umpteen times. I thought that I could achieve that by putting objects in the <defs> part of my library document, e.g., <defs> <rect id="somerect" ... /> </defs> and then referencing the objects elsewhere like this: <use xlink:href="lib.svg#somerect" ... /> This seems not to work with Inkscape. (It does seem to work with Batik, but not if the href URL is relative.) Am I doing this incorrectly or is it unsupported? -- J.

Changing page size default from A4 to US Letter

Hello, Is there a configuration file or preferences location to change the default startup page size of A4 to US Letter (or any other format)? I've looked through the wiki and version .44 preferences without any success. I know that it will save the page, once changed, with the document that you save. But, I was hoping to find a way to change the default when the application is launched. I tend to forget that it uses A4 by default and would prefer to change it globally. Any help is appreciated. How do I create a node at intersection of two lines?

Is it possible to create a node point at the intersection of two lines from different objects? I tried using the constructive geometry primitives in the Path menu (union, intersection, exclusion, difference, etc.), but these were not quite flexible enough for what I want to do. It seems like the lowest geometry primitive would be to find the intersection of two lines. Here is an example of what I'm trying to do: http://www.noah.org/intersect/index.html I had to fake this by adding a node and visually moving the node point until it appeared to be at the intersection. A Printing Tutorial

Being new to Inkscape, I have many questions. I'm thinking that one of the advantages to Inkscape is that it is so well suported and is ideal in a classroom setting (with VERY limited budgets). My only problem to date is printing. Kids love to see their work and after the hours they put into their drawings, they want something to take home. I just can't seem to get their work on paper. So.... is there enough of a need for a "How to Print Documents" tutorial? I'm referring to custom sized documents since there appears to be no problem printing 8 x 11 etc. documents. And, would an Inkscape expert tackle such a job? Is Inkscape used professionally in graphics art? If so, wouldn't customers want to see their products as hardcopies? Importing fig drawings on a windows box

Hi, Has anyone had any luck using 0.44 windows to import fig documents? I noticed a small thread regarding this issue on a mac on the sourceforge forums; the ultimate recommendation was to post to this list. I notice on http://tavmjong.free.fr/INKSCAPE/MANUAL/html/ch03s02.html (do a search on that page for "fig") that there is mention of needing to have fig2dev installed. I'm lost there. Ideas? How to convert text in svg file

Hi, I convert the attached svg file to the attached pdf file without selecting the option "text to path". The resulted pdf file doesn't have the text "O". Do you know what is wrong? Thanks, Peng
