Hi, When I drag an image into Inkscape, the image path is absolute. Is ther a way to make Inskscape using relative path ("../pics/mypic.png") by default? It's useful when I move my working folder on another computer. thanks

Convert .svg file to .ps and .pdf file

Hi, I used "Save as" menu item to convert the attached .svg file to .ps and .pdf file. The converted ps file is different from svg file. I guess it is because I set the alpha value of the big rectangle to 0. Acrobat give an error "A number value is out of range." when I try to open the pdf file. Can you help me on how to convert the .svg file correctly to .ps and .pdf file? Thanks, Peng

Printing from AcrobatReader

I have a document created on a page size of 8.5 x 24 inchs long (created in Inkscae). I saved the document as an ps file. I then opened the ps file in GSView (the opened file looked great on the screen with correct dimensions). When I tried to print the complete document, I got one page (8.5 x 11 or maybe 14 in., I just don't remember any more) printed and that was it. So.... I converted the ps file to a pdf file. I opened the file using AcrobatReader. The File looked great. The page dimensions were correct (8.5 x 24 inch). On the print set-up screen, AcrobatReader correctly states the size of the document. The print preview picture shows a document that is 14 inches NOT the 24 inches of the document (how do I change that.... I really tried everything I can find). When I print it, I get a print-out that is 14 inches long and thats it. I tried using banner paper but that didn't work either (get one page). So my question is, in AcrobatReader (or GSView for that matter) how can I get the complete print out? No matter what the print setting is, I get a 14 inch long document. Because the document is longer that 11 inches, I would like to use continous paper (banner) to get one complete print out. The advise I've received has been great.... svg to ps file viewing problem

A problem has come up when converting an svg file to a ps file and then viewing the ps file using GSView. The created file is a custom sized document, 24 inches long x 8.5 inches wide. I saved as a ps file. I then open the ps file using GSView. The file opens but not to the size of the original document. A one page document opens that is 8.5 x 11 inches, not the custom size I created the document in. Am I missing something? I would like to convert .svg files (created in Inkscape) to .pdf files and then print the file. I've been advised that I would have better results when printing .pdf files then I do with .svg files (I can't get the file saved as a .svg file to print when custom sized (anything other then 8.5 x 11 in.) prints are needed. For example, I can't get a complete print-out of a document created on 8.5 x 24 inch document format). I guess I should ask, printing from an .pdf file will result in a continous print-out (using banner paper) of between 24 to around 36 inches, won't it? If so..... Please help me. Exactly, how do I convert a .svg file to a .pdf file? What application(s) can I use to convert and then open and print the newly created .pdf file? I would like to use open source applications. The Inkscape created pdf from SaveAs using the current LatestExe is as fine as the ghostscript created one. As already mentioned the produced file is very large. Is there a way to change the default line width?

I've looked for this feature, but haven't really known *where* to look, so I thought it might be worthwhile to shoot a question to this list -- just in case it isn't there. The default line width is 1px, or .8 of a point. There are some drawings where I'd like to set the default line width to 2 points, or 1 point. As it stands, I've been changing the width manually after I draw it, which for complex drawings can be a pain. Is there a way to change the default line width overall and per session? If not, I'll add it to the bug tracker because that would be a really useful feature. Christopher B. Wright (wrightc@...537...)

I just read the disheartening news that Inkscape doesn't support multi-page documents. This would mean that one can not print a custom sized document that is larger then one sheet of standard size paper from Inkscape. Is this true? Can more than one sheet of paper be placed next to each other on the screen and can a drawing "flow" from one page to the next page (for example, 4 sheets of 8.5 x 11 inch paper, placed next to each other on the screen (zoomed way out), and a line drawn starting at page one, to page 2, page 3 and ending with page 4)? This way a drawing can be continous and then printed page by page and cut-&-taped together to form a large sized document (a lot of work but....) Any other suggestions?
