How to archive an alpha fade out for an image

Hi all, I'm very new to Inkscape and the possibilities that are made possible with a tools like this, so please forgive me if my question is obvious or otherwise stupid... But I have already searched for an answer to the following on the net and I cannot see how it is done. I would basically like to archive the same "fade out" on a new image as seen on the attached image. If you put this picture on a dark background, you can see that it kind-of shines. I have tried with the "Blur Egde" tool (as well as many other approaches, but none of these give me the same illusion. So... how do you get the same effect? Is it possible at all? -- /tonny

Blend Tool Substitute

I am new to inkscape and was wondering what tools in Inkscape would I use to achieving effects like the Blend tool in Illustrator. It renders the same for me (Inkscape-0.44-1.win32.exe) as it does in FoxFire from the web. You may be seeing a hardware problem. Thats a 2M file (map-save.svg) and when opened in Inkscape it caused my page file to increase by about 450M, also max's out CPU usage (2.5Ghz, 512RAM). imigital On Fri 8/25/2006 12:14 PM Carl R. Great JOB!

I just got around to trying Inkscape today. I had downloaded it a few weeks ago, and one thing and another kept getting in my way of trying it out. But I am working on a Mac application and needed some "decent" icons, so today was the day. MAN! I'M BLOWN AWAY! I've used Illustrator at work in the past, and Inkscape, to my eye, does it ALL. Very, very nice app. It now sits in my doc right next to GimpShop. Keep up the excellent work. There are those of use who can't afford Adobe's offerings that appreciate what you're doing. SVG rendering problem

I'm having difficulties getting inkscape to properly render some SVG files (using version 0.43 on a fedora core 3 system). An example file is here: http://edwards1.phy.ohiou.edu/~brune/map-save.svg inkscape map-save.svg -z -w 600 -e test.png does not render it properly (e.g. compared to batik). Also the image is not displayed properly if I open it with inkscape. Curiously, converting to eps works fine: inkscape map-save.svg -z -T -E test.eps I also find the same problem running on windows XP (installing Inkscape-0.44-1.win32.exe). Is this a bug? Any suggestions would be appreciated. Carl B.

pdf export and images

hi, i'm using inkscape 0.44. I want to export a drawing containing imported png images to pdf. It contains transparency. with 0.43 it worked quite well except for the transparency. in 0.44 with windows the transparency worked. with linux not. and with both I encountered the problem that the images were not contained in the final pdf. What could cause probably this? Did I miss something in the options? best regards, stefan

Can't export to PNG.

Hey, Inkscapers, I have a new install of Inkscape 0.44 running on WinXP and I don't seem to have the export to PNG option. It's not in the File..Save As dialog. Ctrl+Shift+E/File->Export Bitmap does nothing. I guess a dialog is supposed to pop up here but all that happens is the screen flashes and the window loses focus. Any ideas? Thanks, ===Blake===

Hi. I am new to Inkscape and have a seemingly simple problem, but I can't find a solution for it. I would like to create something like the yellow-pink egg as shown in the easter egg tutorial (http://sourceforge.net/tracker/index.php?func=detail&aid=1493939&group_id=9…), however, without black borders at the top and bottom of the yellow area. Another example for what I want to achieve is http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/commons/thumb/b/b4/Inkscapepiom1.png/… The wings of that insect have a darker area which touches the border of the wings (I don't want there to be a gap between the darker area and the border though) but does not have a border itself. I had a look at all tutorials I could find so far, but none of them gave me a hint. I hope that someone can enlighten me :) Regards, Florian

Font size change not working properly

Hi all, I open with Inkscape a SVG document created with another app. Most things look fine, but I would like to change the font size of text objects. After I select a few or all characters using the text tool, the Tool Control Font Size tells me the size is 15.023. Therefore choosing 18 in the pop-up menu should make the text slightly bigger. On the contrary, my text becomes tiny (totally unreadable). If I do the same thing, but using the Text and Font dialog, I enter 18 as the Font size, but when I click on Apply this is changed to "1.6199" and my text is tiny. On the other hand, if I select all the text using the Selection tool then switching to the text tool, the size change works fine, both through the Tool Control and through the Text and Font dialog. Is this a (known) bug? Thanks in advance, Herve
