Print Margins

I'm running inkscape 0.43_1 on FreeBSD 5.4 & when I go and print it will not display a config box where I can set margins. Is there anyway to set margins when printing through inkscape? I can set some options if I use Print Direct. I'm not using CUPS because that crashes gnome ports (which includes inkscape as it requires libgnomeprint). The only way I can print correctly with margins at the moment is to export each picture I want to a image and use another program to print it correctly. This is annoying. Michael Pope

new path tool?

hello, i've been using inkscape to colour in cartoons. i've been doing this by drawing a block of colour behind the outline, select both and use the path division tool to seperate the excess colour from the bit i want to keep. the problem is that the division tool cuts the outline down to fit the colour. i've had to duplicate the outline first and use that to do the division, then clean up the remnants of the duplicated outline. this is obviously a slow and painful way of working. what i need is a path tool that does the division thing on the lower vector (the colour) without affecting the upper vector (the outline). is there such a path tool? if not, would it be hard to implement? maybe it could be done with a script or something? thanks. john michaelson.

keeping configuration of straight lines

Hi, I'm trying to draw a set of blue straight lines with arrows but I don't know how to keep the configurations of my lines. That is: To make a blue straight line with an arrow I create a line and after I use the fill and stroke window to set the arrow and the color of my line. After this and I try to draw my second line, so I have to set the arrow and the color again... So, I'd like to draw the following lines with the same configuration of my last one. Is it possible? When I draw rectangles inkscape keeps the last configuration. I'm using inkscape 0.43. Thanks, Marco

Blocking spam

The irony abounds. linear transparency in bitmap patterns. Is it possible?

Is it possible to change the transparency of one part of the bitmap more than the other part? You see this effect a lot, that the transparency is like a gradient. For instance, look at the mirrored text in the following image: http://ftp.gnome.org/pub/GNOME/teams/art.gnome.org/themes/splash_screens/Sp… Of course, this image can easily be done in Inkscape, given that the font is available. But imagine that the mirrored word 'gnome' is available as bitmap only. That can't be done easily, because you cannot change the transparency as a gradient. At least as far a I could figure out. Or maybe I am missing something. Any suggestions?

ATTN: Change to list access settings

This mailing list has now been modified to restrict posting only to list members. The proposal for this change was made on the "linear transparency in bitmap patterns" thread. I said I would make the change if a dozen people voted in favor, and no one voted to oppose. These conditions were met decisively this evening, and so the change has taken affect. The motivation for this change is that it will make it more difficult for spammers to send spam to the list. The one main downside to this change is that it will also make it more difficult for Inkscape newbies to post questions. This was the original reason why we did not set the list up this way. However, we have comment forms on the website that people could use if they really did not wish to join. Also, the inconvenience to users not on the list needs to be weighed against the inconvenience of users *on* the list. As well, while this may inconvenience some users, this type of mailing list setting is becoming more and more common, so should not be too surprising to new users. In addition, non-list members benefit from this change because the online list archives will have less spam, and thus will be easier to navigate through. If anyone has any concerns, then now is the time to speak up! Otherwise, this change will become permanent as of this time tomorrow. Thanks, Bryce

Gradients with transparency in a bitmap can be used and created with gradient editor in Gimp. I was able to recreate the effects on your gnome link using it (background color to transparency over it).
