Inkscape Announces 0.43 Release :: http://www.inkscape.org Inkscape 0.43 is now available thanks to the work of many developers and the sponsorship of Google's Summer of Code program which sponsored four students to work on features for Inkscape. The main new features in this release are: * Connectors: Objects can be connected using auto-routing lines. * Inkboard Collaborative Editing: You can connect to other Inkscape users over a network and edit a shared document. * Pressure and Tilt Sensitivity: The calligraphy tool may now use a tablet pen with pressure and tilt support. * Better Node Editing: You can now drag, bend, and stretch a Bezier curve by any point and not only by a node. * New Extensions: There are now extensions for envelope distortion, whirling, and adding nodes. * SVG Compliance: There is now additional support for the viewBox element improving SVG compatibility. * There is an online book, "A Guide to Inkscape", available at http://tavmjong.free.fr/INKSCAPE/MANUAL/html/index.php, which has been updated to cover the 0.43 features. Currently the Inkscape community is working on the next release which will focus on stability and closing bugs. The next release will add an outline viewing mode, a plan towards SVG Tiny compliance, a fill and stroke interface to the bottom toolbar, and more application refinements. Inkscape is open to all types of contributions by people with all different skill levels from around the world. Some difficulties with the new version of Inkscape

Hi, since I downloaded a new version yesterday I can't use the node tools in the tool-bar anymore. I tried another download today - the same. I still have an older version from oct. 26, there everything works perfectly - like normally :-) Further I get a little mistake-window on every shutdown of the program: after I shut down Inkscape it tells me, that Inkscape has to be shut down - funny somehow. November 21, 2005 — The Inkscape community today releases Inkscape 0.43, an Open Source Scalable Vector Graphics (SVG) drawing tool available for Unix/Linux variants, Mac OS X, and Windows. The focus of this release is on the exciting new features sponsored by Google through their Summer of Code (SoC) program which provided funding for four individuals to contribute to Inkscape. The primary additions this release are: * Connectors: A new indispensable connector tool implements creation, editing, and auto-routing (object-avoiding) of connector lines between objects. It is indispensable for drawing diagrams. (Google SoC project) * Inkboard Collaborative Editing: One may now connect to other Inkscape users over a network and edit a shared document, watch changes, and contribute one's own changes. (Google SoC project) * Pressure and Tilt Sensitivity: The calligraphy tool may now use a tablet pen with pressure and tilt support to vary the width and angle of a calligraphic stroke. * Better Node Editing: One may freely drag, bend, and stretch a Bezier curve by any point and not only by a node. Also, one may easily add a new node at any point on the curve. * New Extensions: There are now extensions for envelope distortion, whirling, and adding nodes. * Refinements: Inkscape now supports improved precision, expanded limits, usability improvements and several bugfixes. * SVG Compliance: There is now additional support for the viewBox element improving SVG compatibility. In response to the release, Tavmjong Bah updated his online book, "A Guide to Inkscape" (http://tavmjong.free.fr/INKSCAPE/MANUAL/html/index.php), to cover the Inkscape 0.43 features. This guide is not included with the Inkscape release. Users are encouraged to read the guide in addition to Inkscape 0.43's release notes and the help included with Inkscape. Inkscape 0.43 Released

Inkscape 0.43 is now released. With lots of exciting new features, many sponsored by Google's Summer of Code, this is the best release of Inkscape until the next one. Source code is now available in Sourceforge, and everything is tagged and labeled in CVS. We kindly ask that this release not be publicized outside of the friendly confines of the Inkscape community until more packages are available. Shortly, a more public announcement will be made. inkscape to OpenOffice Draw?

Hello, I created a couple of graphics with Inkscape (0.39), and I would like to include them in an OpenOffice (1.1.3) Draw document. The problem is that Inkscape can export into ps, eps, svg, inkscape svg, etc. But none of those formats can be read by Draw (except it claims to read ps and eps, but it does not work). Is there a sane way to transfer inkscape graphics into OOo Draw as vectors (and not bitmaps)? Maybe there is an utility under Linux which can convert inkscape svg into something OOo Draw can read? snap to everything

Hello all, I'm trying to daw some technical diagrams with Inkscape. It would be an excellent tool, but the snap feature is driving me mad. I'm not sure if this is a bug or a feature - if I draw a line, then move it, it will snap to grid on the left, centre and right of the line (or top-middle-bottom). It takes away the whole point of snapping, and I end up with a lot of wonky diagrams! Can I turn this off, so that lines will only snap at their centre? TIA Arthur

Hi all, According to Tavmjong's manual (http://tavmjong.free.fr/INKSCAPE/MANUAL/html/ch03s02.html) the ImageMagick Perl module is needed to import AI files into Inkscape. But the suggested link to get it is dead. I've been searching this list's archives, and read about another perl script called ill2svg. Which option is best? Where can I find the latest release of these scripts? How should I install them in a MacOS X environment? Thanks in advance, Herve

saving transparencies in eps

hello i have created a '.svg' file with some overlapping geometrical shapes like circles and rectangles: i need to know how to preserve transparencies when i convert this figure in eps format since all of them are lost and the figure gets no meaning anymore btw: do you know if latex can accept figure formats other than eps? thank you all for help -- roberto GNU/Linux, debian sarge
