I'm having trouble importing an eps file into inkscape. Postscript and PDF: Text not as path

Hello, is there an option so save text as text in Inkscape when exporting Postscript or PDF? Something must be implemented because when saving as EPS, there is a checkbox for this, but this is missing for PS and PDF. It would be very nice because the display quality in Adobe Reader is much better and the text can be copied. Regards, Bernhard

optimize SVG

Hello all, once upon a time ..., no seriously couple of weeks ago I have been contacted by Joseph Merdas ( shemeri_at_hotmail_dot_com ). He writes a thesis about optimizing SVG. He had couple of questions and needed some answers. I promised him to contact the inkscape list with the many friedly peopels dealing with svg every day for further feedback and background info. Joseph examines how to optimize SVG in different ways: -optimize for render speed, -optimize for size -etc He has ideas about some tricks that also inkscape is using by simplify feature, also reordering the elements, moving the attributes, etc. One of his concerns is that the change in the structure of a document may corrupt the document for build-in ECMA-script proccessing. Because the elements are differtly orderd, are vanished or have different attributes etc. and so the DOM is deifferent. Now he has the first result ready. An java implemented optimizer, that also checks the rendering results. I would please everyone to give some feedback. Hi list, I am new on Inkscape, but I would like to know how to solve my problem to install inkscape. I download the inkscape. How to print transparent graphics?

Hello Inkscape users, transparency is a great feature, I really like it. :-) But how to print in Inkscape? PS doesn't support transparency, PDF is currently only PS converted with Ghostscript. Scribus is far from import my SVGs in the same way than drawed in Inkscape (at least if I use flowed text). So, does anybody have an idea? The only thing which comes in mind is to render as PNG with a reasonable resolution and print that -- but that's a lot of work if the size should be the same as in the SVG file. No text printed

Hello, if I print using "Print..." in the file menu, no text is printed. If I print using "Print direct", all works. Is this a known issue or am I doing something wrong? Also, the dots in "Print..." are confusing because no print dialog appears. Regards, Bernhard

stroke width issue

I am working in Inkscape 0.42 (autopackage and apt installed on 2 Ubuntu linux boxes (autopackage is hoary, apt is breezy)). With a .svg file exported from paths in Gimp 2.2.8, on both installations, the stroke width dialogue behaves strangely, incrementing the stroke width only upwards by large amounts and then locking out at 1000.0 px. Width then is adjustable just by entering a number rather than the using the scrolls and even then it goes to a different value than the one entered. This behaviour goes away if I import the file into Scribus and reset the stroke width (Scribus behaves properly on this) and then export it and then open in Inkscape. This does not happen if svg file is Inkscape created. I have looked at bugs but nothing seen. Before I submit, is this behaviour known? Thanks in advance for any insights, R -- Royden Yates

0.42.2 still crashes when being started

Hi! I just reported this bug on Sourceforge - as 0.41 and 0.42 did, my self-compiled Inkscape 0.42.2 crashes right after being called on my Slackware 10.1. Please see item 1275076 in the bug tracker for detailed information (the bt output of gdb is added as a comment). Unfortunately the only way to use inkscape on my computer is to install the inkscape-0.41-i486-1jed.tgz binary package, which is outdated. Does anyone else have this problem? Regards, Timo
