Set working directory from the command line

In Inkscape's "Save" section of Preferences, it provides the option to either use the current working directory. The checkbox reads: Use current directory for "Save As..." The hint text reads: When this option is on, the "Save as..." dialog will always open in the directory where the currently open document is; when it's off, it will open in the directory where you last saved a file using that dialog. When Inkscape is opened with no file specified on the command line, I assumed the Save As... dialog would come up focused on the directory that the user had "cd" to before invoking Inkscape from the shell, but the dialog always goes to my home directory. Is this a matter of how our virtualized Linux environment is set up? Is there a way to pass a path on the Inkscape command line to explicitly set Inkscape's "working directory"? I didn't see any such parameter in the Inkscape command line help file.\ RHEL is the platform. John

Setting Inkscape as default SVG editor on Linux

Greetings, I'm fairly new to Linux, and we're running RHEL in a virtualized environment. After much searching and various attempts, I haven't come across a standard way to specify that Inkscape is the preferred editor for SVG files. I also can't get it to show up as an option in the Open With... context menu choice in Win7 64-bit. Clues? -John

need Linux version of 0.91pre1

I managed to download an MSWin 7 version of 0.9pre1 but have had no luck with compiling the same version on Slackware Linux. I also have Knoppix and SUSE. Is there a compiled version of pre1 for any Linux distro? Problem when applying textures to rectangle

Hi, when applying a texture to a rectangle, I can see a white horizontal lines as you can see on the attached image. I have the same problem with the rest of my textures. I have 0.48.5 on ubuntu 14.04

The following web page has a feature whereby if the mouse hovers over a thumbnail illustration it expands to a full size representation. when one moves the mouse off the particular illo it reverts to thumbnail again. The function uses a javascript program called: oodomimagerollover.js The web page is: http://wexfordpress.com/illos.html I like to experiment with using svg programs instead of html programs for web pages. How do I convert 2 parallel and filled lines to one line with thickness?

Hello, I am new to vector editing software - so I might use the wrong terms. But I hope you understand my question. I have a gif image of a black & white stick figure. I am using inkscape and the tracing tool (Shift+Alt+B) to trace it with default settings. Everything looks fine. Now I want to change the shape of the lines with the "edit path by notes tool" and realise that the tracing tool did not convert the lines of the stick figure to one line with a certin thickness. Instead it converted the lines to two parallel lines that are filled. *My question now is: Is there a tool or something to convert these two parallellines that are filled to one line with a certain thickness?* Thanks, Mike

Inkscape 0.48.5 Released

Greetings! The Inkscape community is proud to announce the stable bug-fix release of Inkscape version 0.48.5. This is the fifth bug fix release for 0.48 and it contains over 60 bug fixes to improve stability and functionality on all platforms (over 190 for OS X since our last available package). Check out the release notes [1] for a summary of some of the fixes and improvements, the milestone page [2] for the full list of closed bug reports, or just jump right to downloading [3] your package for Windows, Linux or Mac OS X.
