Freedom from systemd

Hi all, On Debian Wheezy, a look at dependencies indicates that Inscape depends on dbus, via libgnomevfs2-0 and some other dependency routes. Modern dbus has been co-opted by systemd, which I, and a lot of other people, are refusing to put on their computers. What would it take to get rid of all direct and indirect dependencies on systemd? Snap of non-scaled contours and snap with alignment function

Dear Inkscape experts, I'm just testing the useful features of snapping but there are some points why I find the handling of this feature by Adobe products easier. Maybe you can help me with my problems (I'm using Inkscape-0.91pre2-1): 1) Snap of non-scaled contours I've disabled the scaling of contous. When I take a line with an arrow end and snap it to a path or anything the countour is scaled during the procedure and when I release the mouse button the countour scales back to the original but this also moves the snapped point. This is definately not a feature. Is there anyone whi discovered the same effect or is there maybe a workaround oder is it a bug? 2) Snap with alignment I'd like to scale one side of an rectangle and snap it to a boundary of another rectangle which has some distance. In Adobe Illustrator I can move over the path to be aligned to and now this path is included in the snapping selection. This is a very useful handling. Has someone an idea if this is possible or might been included in future versions? Knut

Getting Inkscape to work with a graphic tablet (XP-pen)

So I just bought this cheap pressure-sensitive graphic tablet for my home rig. It doesn't do all that the big league tablets (i.e. Wacom) can do - no tilt detection for example - but who needs that? it's the pressure that I care about. Anyway, it works admirably with Photoshop, Krita, and Blender, But I can't seem to get it to work with Inkscape. I can see it's recognized in the Input Devices dialog: tablet and pen are there. I enabled the pen and set it to use screen coordinates. moving the cursor works, no problem. But drawing doesn't. When I try to draw something - anything, pen, pencil, rectangle, circle - nothing happens. Well, not quite nothing. using the pen is supposed to be equivalent to a left click but it seems to invoke the right-click menu sometimes. Other times it seems to shift the view, zooming in and panning to the left. Yet other times it does nothing. Anybody got suggestions as for what I could try to do to fix it? Can Inkscape convert PNG into true SVG?

I tried converting a PNG into a SVG. But what Inkscape did was just embed the PNG into the SVG. That isn't what I want and the created SVG can't be re-sized appropriately on web browsers like a true SVG. Can Inkscape convert PNG into true SVG?

Suggestions for tiling a car wrap

I am building a tiny electric car, and it has bikini-level fiberglas body components, about 30 sq ft. We've settled on a fish-scale graphic design to be done with vinyl car-wrap. I've never done a big tiling job, and I'd like to have a lot of color&detail variation, very much like a real fish. Any suggestions, or a tutorial I missed? -- John Fisher Znyx Networks

Translate flowed text boxes

Hi, I discovered some strange things when moving textboxes around. I will first describe this behavior and then describe what my problem is. I create a text box, with flowed text. In the XML this looks like <parent> <flowid> <rect /> </flowid> <text /> </parent> When I move this box around, not the position of the rect that is changed, but a global translate is applied to the parent entry. I discovered this, because our printer somehow renders the text box, and hiding whats behind. This is not a problem when the text is at the same place as the box, but it is a problem when you moved the text and the box did not move along. This behavior seems strange at the first glance, however, it is somehow logical from the internal XML structure.
