Thanks, this helps a little. But the rectangle is only an example, the drawing I'm working on is more complicated. Take for instance the map of Europe, with all coutries painted in a different color. The path-segments on each border belong to two paths, around the two bordering countries. Now if I want to edit that border, I would like to edit only one path. Is that possible? Or do I have to draw each border twice? Thanks for the help. A easy method that works for me: 1 select the two nodes you want to join and break the path (shift+B) 2 select one of the corner nodes, then use ctrl+A to select all nodes... and as you can see, only the four nodes of one half side are selected. 3 use the node-tool button "Join selected endnodes with a new segment" with these nodes selected. End nodes that were open now are joined by a segment 4 Proceed at the same way with the other half square 5 use the selection tool to select the both square-subpaths, then break apart the path (Ctrl+Shif+K). In addition to my previous answer (to personal mail, in Dutch) which covered 'node operations', you could also just duplicate the object and set the width of both the original and the duplicate to half of their origanal widths. Hi, I hope my image comes through. I have a closed path, represented by the rectangle. I want to connect points A and B to create 2 closed paths, one around C and one around D without drawing the connection between A and B twice. Can I achieve this in a simple way? Thanks, Maurice

My certificate-maker program

Hi all, You might be interested in what I did with Inkscape, YAML, and a couple hundred lines of Pthon... I teach a troubleshooting course, and a client asked for certificates of completion for all the client's students. So here's what I did: I used Inkscape to make the certificate, complete with a nice triple-line border. Everywhere that needed something specific, such as venue (for example "ABC Corp in Indianapolis, IN"), I put @variablename@...95... Most of those variables, such as venue and date range, were per-course, but the student name was per-student. I saved this Inscape file uncompressed for easy parsing. To drive the run, I used a YAML file something like what you see below my sig. I think if you look at the YAML file you can pretty much envision the Python program. The Python program looped through the YAML graduates list, and for each one: * For each key in tokens, replaced @tokenkey@ with the token's value in the Inscape file * Wrote the SVG result to an output file in run_info['output_dir'] * Converted that SVG file to a PDF My client was delighted both with the quality of the result and the speed with which I did it. Because of its native text format and its ability to do complex graphics, Inkscape provides the ideal bridge between data and graphics. Thank you for giving us Inkscape.
