What auxiliary programs are needed?

I already have a fairly complete stock of publishing-related programs. So is there a list somewhere of the got-to haves for full Inkscape use? For example is Ghostscript necessary to create pdf files etc.? However, when I move the path filled with the rotation, it reverts to the non-rotated version. I'm attaching it here. Why is Inkscape doing it? Is it a bug? Handy use for Inkscape.

Given some blank forms from my doctor to fill out (pdf files) I found Inkscape to be very handy. I locked the original layer and used a new "text" layer to do the inserts. Outset/Inset problems - bug or not?

I have Ubuntu 12.04 and Inkscape 0.48+devel r12347 Two weeks ago I installed the nightly build from Inkscape, then decided against it and uninstalled/reinstalled Inkscape from Ubuntu software center. Since then the outset/inset function has generated incorrect results for some shapes. Tips: How to Invoke One Inkscape Extension from Another + Other stuff I learned when writing the extension

Hi all, here are some tips you can use from my experience on working on an inkscape extension: 1. Calling one extension from another: -------------------------------------- This is the recipe I used in Python to call one extension from another: import subprocess def id_arg(my_id): return '--id=' + my_id with_perspective_applied_text = subprocess.check_output( ['python', '/usr/share/inkscape/extensions/perspective.py', id_arg(main_path_id()), id_arg(pers_e.get_path_id()), pers_e.calc_out_fn() ] ) main_path_id() and pers_e.get_path_id() are the IDs passed to the extension as selections and pers_e.calc_out_fn() contains the path to where the intermediate SVG was written. This can be done securely by doing: temp_dir = tempfile.mkdtemp() def temp_svg_fn(basename): global temp_dir return join(temp_dir, basename + '.svg') 2. Output from inkex.Effect to a file. ------------------------------------------ The following class that inherits from inkex.Effect writes to a temporary file instead of to STDOUT. I am planning to convert one of my web sites to all-svg. I am wondering about the use of a site map. Inkscape as a (assistent) font editor

I've put together something that might be interesting for Inkscape-users (as I am myself) As a side effect of an effort to create multi-colored webfonts, I've written a Ruby script that converts an Inkscape file to a SVG font. The workflow would be as follows: -Open a pre-build 'template' SVG file -This file contains: - an Inkscape layer for each character - guides for the basic font metrics - per layer an extra rectangle to indicate the character-width -Draw a character in each layer. (and make sure they're 'paths') -adjust the guides to match your font metrics (ascenders, descenders, x-height, cap-height) -save the file as a SVG file -run the script --> SVG font!!! The font can now be edited further in, for example, FontForge and exported to TTF etc. Everything is still very much 'in progress' but it might already be of interest for some of you. I've put a more elaborate explanation on my website, together with a link to the scripts in GitHub: http://www.ideogram.nl/content/multicolorfont Ofcourse, feedback is very welcome! (I know Inscape has a build in font-editor, but I find it quite clumsy to use. This script doesn't use it at all.) I hope you don't mind I advertise my work in this way, but apart from some feedback and help, there's no earnings in it for me and if it turns out to be helpful for you, the community only gains from it.

Wanted: Corel-DRAW-like envelope that does not deform the upper and lower borders

Hi all, I am trying to reproduce this effect - http://www.shlomifish.org/art/bk2hp/ - that I originally did in Corel-DRAW using Inkscape. Now, for that I used an envelope effect that construed the text like so: ----------------------- \ | \ | | | / | / | ----------------------- And later on applied perspective. However, when I attempt to do it using Inkscape, I get some deformation/mutation at the top and bottom like so - http://imgur.com/SdUWXA6 and don't want that. I've been considering to implement my own transformation on the points of the path using this equation - https://github.com/shlomif/Shlomi-Fish-Back-to-my-Homepage-Logo/blob/master… , but I hope to avoid it. Can anyone give me any leads?
