I am planning to convert one of my web sites to all-svg. I am wondering about the use of a site map. Inkscape as a (assistent) font editor

I've put together something that might be interesting for Inkscape-users (as I am myself) As a side effect of an effort to create multi-colored webfonts, I've written a Ruby script that converts an Inkscape file to a SVG font. The workflow would be as follows: -Open a pre-build 'template' SVG file -This file contains: - an Inkscape layer for each character - guides for the basic font metrics - per layer an extra rectangle to indicate the character-width -Draw a character in each layer. (and make sure they're 'paths') -adjust the guides to match your font metrics (ascenders, descenders, x-height, cap-height) -save the file as a SVG file -run the script --> SVG font!!! The font can now be edited further in, for example, FontForge and exported to TTF etc. Everything is still very much 'in progress' but it might already be of interest for some of you. I've put a more elaborate explanation on my website, together with a link to the scripts in GitHub: http://www.ideogram.nl/content/multicolorfont Ofcourse, feedback is very welcome! (I know Inscape has a build in font-editor, but I find it quite clumsy to use. This script doesn't use it at all.) I hope you don't mind I advertise my work in this way, but apart from some feedback and help, there's no earnings in it for me and if it turns out to be helpful for you, the community only gains from it.

Wanted: Corel-DRAW-like envelope that does not deform the upper and lower borders

Hi all, I am trying to reproduce this effect - http://www.shlomifish.org/art/bk2hp/ - that I originally did in Corel-DRAW using Inkscape. Now, for that I used an envelope effect that construed the text like so: ----------------------- \ | \ | | | / | / | ----------------------- And later on applied perspective. However, when I attempt to do it using Inkscape, I get some deformation/mutation at the top and bottom like so - http://imgur.com/SdUWXA6 and don't want that. I've been considering to implement my own transformation on the points of the path using this equation - https://github.com/shlomif/Shlomi-Fish-Back-to-my-Homepage-Logo/blob/master… , but I hope to avoid it. Can anyone give me any leads? Inkscape on OSX 10.8

Hello all, before a couple of days I needed to upgrade from osx 10.6 to 10.8. Today I realized Inkscape doesn't open any more. On the download page is only a snow leo version available. So does that mean you are not supporting osx any more? This would be a horrible loss for me. Maybe there are other options to get inkscape running on my mac again. If so, I would be very glad about any tipps how to do it. Thanks Christian

Shrink item changes DPI?

In Gimp there is a facility for reducing an image's size and increasing the dpi in proportion. Is there a good way to do map regions?

I'm making SVG game maps where a region on the map is a closed path. These regions usually share boundaries with one another so they often form a 'mesh' (consider a grid of squares or hexagons as examples, although for the maps the regions are rarely regular). To create them I have to copy and paste bits of path so that regions have nicely overlapping boundaries which works but is very tedious, particularly as I'd like to start building maps with large numbers of regions (>500). I'm thinking I'd like to be able to start with a closed path (e.g. a continental outline) and treat it as a 'region mesh' - this would be like a normal closed path except that I could add a 'branch' node to it that would connect to another 'branch' node, creating two regions - these would be maintained as separate closed paths for export and the shared boundaries would always exactly overlap. However, it seems likely someone has faced this problem before - there are lots of SVG maps out there that have regions defined in this manner. Can anyone point me towards a good solution for rapidly building a layer of map regions?

Granularity along inch rulers.

I am working on a book about covers using the Perfect Cover Generator. This works in inches. I need to tell how to draw some additional guides at distances of 0.25 inch from the generated guides marking the spine. However the rulers along the sides only measure in inches with 1/4 inch tick marks. I need at a minimum 1/8 inch marks to approximate the correct positioning. How can I refine the rulers to show these 1/8 inch subdivisions?
