A horrible tragedy has befallen us! We suffer from a dearth of halloween imagery in the Open Clip Art Library, and only two weeks remain before the holiday arrives. Send in your ghosts, goblins, bats and witches. Skeletons and Jack-o-lanterns too! They must be your authentic work, placed in the Public Domain so they can be easily used for no end of evilness. Nodes

I have a couple of questions/suggestions about nodes. 1. Is it possible to insert new nodes on a path, kind of a 'reverse simplify', preferably "insert new node at cursor position". 2. I would like to create shapes that exactly match other shapes, at least in part. This would involve duplicating nodes from other shapes. Currently this can be done with many steps, such as duplicating the other shape, creating a new shape that overlaps it, and using a boolean operation to cut away the new shape so that it matches the edge of the other shape. I could do this a lot easier if I could just select a node on the current image and get Inkscape to make it exactly match the closest node on the adjacent object. A few iterations of the above option (add a node near the cursor) and this option (snap current node to nearest node) would give me what I want. 3. With the Node Editing tool selected, is there a way of selecting the next or previous object? Ideally I'd like a keyboard shortcut for this. I know the concept of "next" and "previous" object is not very strong, so something similar such as being able to bind a keyboard shortcut to selecting a particular object would do, so I could bind, say, Shift-1 and Shift-2 to the two objects and switch selection between them this way. Can this be split into multiple objects

Hi I am trying to recreate my logo. I have attached a copy. Want I would like to do is change the sun and sun rays to a golden colour. Is it possible for this image to be "broken" apart into mutliple objects so I can achieve this. Also, could anyone give me any advice on how I might make the logo a bit more interesting. maybe 3d it a bit, give it some depth. Many thanks for any advice offered

inkscape with lyx/latex

I use Lyx to creat documents and use Xfig for the figures in the documents. Lyx works well with Xfig. In particular with Xfig I can insert mathematical expressions using latex notation. The way this works in Xfig/Lyx is clumsy and ugly but the final product looks good. You even get to have the fonts used match the fonts used in Latex. I am wondering how well inkscape works with Lyx or Latex. In particular I would like to know if mathematical expressions can be added to a figure using latex notation and have latex ensure the proper display of the equation. While I am here, is there any documentation describing the pros and cons of inkscape compared to Xfig? Ralph

October 16, 2005 - Release 0.18 of Open Clip Art Library (http://www.openclipart.org), containing over 6900 SVG files created by over 500 artists, is now available for download and use. For the month of September, the Open Clip Art Library sought imagery related to pets including images of different breeds appropriate for use by animal shelters. For the upcoming 0.19 release, due November 1, 2005, the theme is Halloween. This is any artist's chance to submit to the Open Clip Art Library images of ghosts and goblins, bats, witches, and pumpkins. The community would also welcome printable templates for creating holiday decorations usable in Inkscape, OpenOffice?, Scribus, and, or other graphics applications. Some of the highlights from this release: * New top level categories 'science', 'electronics' * New subsections 'religion', 'astronomy', 'network', and more * Flags collection has been fleshed out / improved a bit more * Bunch of new signs/symbols * Lots of new vehicles, office, sports, music, and toys clipart A lot of the previously 'unsorted' art is now sorted and moved into other categories, and several duplicates removed. While much more work is required before the collection is perfect, this release refines the collection for easier access. Problem installing and running latest developer's release

Hello all... For the last few weeks I have been trying to install the latest autopackaged version of the Inkscape developer's release (which I think is from September 24) on my machine. While it seems to install correctly, attempting to run it starts the loading process but never actually loads the application. I've tried running it on Xandros, Mepis and Kubuntu and I get the same problem. The 42.2 release, on the other hand, installs and loads just fine. I'm not sure if there's a logfile that might have more information about the problem, so I wanted to report the problem first and see if any of you have suggestions as to how I might get you more useful data. imported files

I'm having difficulty with imported bmp files. When I save the finished product that includes bmps and vector graphics it looks great. When I take the resulting svg file to another computer the image shows missing image and a red x where the bmps were. I have surmised that the program links to these images and when you move the svg file to another computer the path to those bmps is no longer there. I was wondering if there is any way to avoid that. Is there a way to anchor or flatten the images and embed them in the svg file? Thanks in advance for any help.

Kernel Panic - Recovery File would be useful

Just experienced a kernel panic on Mac OS X, not in any way related to Inkscape as far as I know. However, I lost an Inkscape editing session, and I recollect from previous actual Inkscape crashes that there is some recovery file. Can't identify where this is stored. Can anyone confirm whether such a file exists? Where can I find it? If such a file doesn't exist I'd like to suggest auto-recovery as a feature. Perhaps on restart, Inkscape could check to see if there's a record of an unclosed file, and notify the user where the corresponding backup file is stored.
