Pretty neat! However, I noticed that "Import" seems to be broken. I can't even drag/drop an image into last night's build of Inkscape. Any ideas? - Tony

Export and Blurs

Hello, I'm currently trying to automate the extraction of a few images. The command line I'm using is something like: inkscape -j --export-id=<id> --export-png output.png However, the exported image is cropped a bit on the side - and it is because is blurred. Basically inkscape is not taking into account the additional size of the of the object due to the blur. Is there an easy way around this? I've reported it as bug 1698120. exporting to PNG is fine, exporting to EPS is ugly

Is anyone able to get nice results exporting to PS or EPS from inkscape? I am using inkscape as a preview and converter in LyX, but I get the same results using the command line or exportin from the GUI. This seems to be a new problem now that I am using inkscape on Linux, when I was using inkscape on Win32, the EPS output looked nice as far as I can recall. I am using the text-to-path and bounding box options. The output seems to be monochrome instead of grayscale, so there are jaggies everywhere, and the diagram exceeds the size of the page. I just compiled the snapshot with the same results. PNG previews look great. That is what puzzles me. Is this a problem with rendering the alpha channel into the EPS which doesn't support alpha? -- Ryan Underwood, <nemesis@...2133...>

Inkscape Project Status

Just to give some visibility into some of the work bubbling away these days: Cairo renderer: Bulia has taken point on investigation of conversion to Cairo. Some tough problems have been uncovered but we're gaining a clearer picture of what needs done. Presently this looks like it will require an all at once brute force approach, rather than incremental refactoring. If so, we'll need to reach a decision on how to undertake that while minimizing disruption to SVN HEAD users. Build system: There is definitely a concensus that our current build system sucks. Options include CMAKE, Bob's buildtool, or just a cleaned up automake. We really need to have interested parties mind meld and find a single solution. Version control system: Mental has been experimenting with git and trying to get it to operate with svn. This study is still very early on, but if it works out well, one day we may begin encouraging developers to use git. Bug tracking: I have been experimenting with use of Mantis with the goal of replacing our SF bug tracker. It looks good, but the principle issue is how to migrate the bugs and their history from SF to Mantis. I'm also interested in seeing if it can be combined well with Drupal, maybe along with Pootle. Any drupalheads out there? Manual: We've got a good unofficial non-free manual/book and several [semi-]official incomplete free manuals. There is discussion about if efforts can be combined to produce a good official free manual. Anyway, I've probably missed something, but I think that covers the pending changes that are percolating. Most of these would benefit from discussion, so we can make sure there is a rough concensus favoring the change - so if you have concerns about any of these changes, now's a good chance to bring 'em up. Mental - I hang my head in shame. Of course I do not use IE (I use Opera which views SVG wonderfully) so that wasn't an issue, but I do use Irfanview and that was causing the incorrect transparency view. I tried the image in Gimp and it looks fine, so does a jpeg export of the png. Testing on only one viewer is a lame thing to do and I am humbled :-) Thanks, Tony

Is there a printed Inkscape book or manual?

The Inkscape book offered by Lulu is just a download in A4 format (I use letter format.) I am looking for a printed and bound book for my shelf, like "Grokking the Gimp" etc. Is there a paper version anywhere? JPEG-compress embedded images in PDF

Greetings. The PDF files generated by Inkscape are unacceptably large when the document contains bitmap graphics. (An A5 book cover I just did is over 33 megabytes -- far too large to publish online.) I presume this is because Inkscape is embedding raw bitmaps into the PDF file, rather than using JPEG compression. Is there a tool which will postprocess a PDF file to convert the embedded bitmaps to embedded JPEGs? I would prefer something free (GPL or the like) and available for GNU/Linux. Bitmap Export

I have built a graphic in Inkscape for use on a web page, but I cannot get it to export properly. The main part of the graphic exports fine, as does the gradient, but the blurred 'shadow' just comes out as a solid colour, not blurred in any way. I am not a complete n00b on Inkscape but I have also not used the blur much and until IE handles svg (as it should!) I am stuck with using bitmaps. Anyone know what I am missing? (Files available on request.) As an aside- the new gradient edit on page is awesome but how do you change from a linear to a radial gradient without using the stroke/fill colours dialog which you are discussing removing?
