Hi Can any one please tell me how to place text on a path. I do not understand the tutorial on the subject, particulaly the 'convert object to curve , and the break selected paths to subpaths, operation. Is there an easier way to do it like in the previous release? Use a font or draw it myself?

I've never used inkscape before. I would like to design a logo for the band almost identical to this http://images.amazon.com/images/P/B00008WJBF.01.THUMBZZZ.jpg But with a curve in the middle. Should I scour the web for a font or is it feasible to draw this myself? Thanks for any advice, Jarlath

Several questions

Hallo, Is there a way to switch off the antialiasing of the canvas? Why I want to do so? My 450 MHz PIII gets very slow on complex drawing. Setting the magnification to »1:1« does not give the natural size, even though the X-Server has the correct dpi set (86dpi in my case). So where does inkscape take the dpi from? Can I change it? Survey data? Can this be done at present?

Can Inkscape plot survey data at present? What I mean is: Can we lay down a line A to B with a distance in say metres and a bearing relative to North vertical and plotted clockwise? And then a line B to C etcetera. The sort of data it would be valuable to plot are: Point Point Distance (metres or scaled) Bearing (angle clockwise in degrees from vertical) A B 12.5 25 B C 4.3 328 C D 16.7 85 D E 8.6 45.2 To do this we need lines to be drawn in terms of distance and angle rather than what appears to be the current X and Y positions of the point. Maybe this can be set at present. If so I cannot find it- Another use of this would be to obtain distance and bearing between two points from a map scan. Again a very useful result which may already be possible. Any help here? I seem to remember that at some very early stage in Inkscape this was possible.......sort of....but I cannot find it now. I'll put it in as a request but thought I'd ask first. Erik

This is something I might be able to work on.....I've just begun learning C and GTK GUI programming, so that I can contribute to Inkscape development. Any idea how I might get started? I'd like to propose two things regarding the Inkscape web site. Volunteers are welcome: 1 Create an RSS feed for the main page news. 2 Create a new header graphic to replace the boring white "Inkscape" on blue. As a graphic app, we are starting to deserve something more sophisticated. The web site itself is OK, I don't think we need to drastically change the entire design (although suggestions are welcome), but the top panel is decidedly dull and pathetic. Show off your graphic talent! Send your submissions to the devel list for people to discuss. The best one (if the winner is not obvious, we may need to do a voting) will make it to the site. One technical note: the banner cannot be fixed width, because our site is not fixed width - so it must be either one piece for the top left corner or two pieces for two corners, with some flat color fill between them. The minimum screen resolution is 800x600.

Inkscape.app for Mac OS X

I have succesfully built Inkscape 0.40-1 via Fink under Mac OS X 10.3 After I have moved to "~/Desktop/Inkscape.app/Contents" following the way explained for the Gimp.app The application lauches itself with a double-click and it is available there http://niwaconcept.free.fr//x11/Inkscape.zip But if it can be stored there that would be better. import/edit non-svg ?

Is there a way to import a drawing into Inkscape ? This would be a scanned drawing... nothing complicated, but what I want, of course, is to be able to edit it, or add color, etc, via Inkscape... is this possible with any format other than SVG and Inkscape ? thanks
