The fileformat allows for multiple pages, but Inkscape presently does not have the capability to edit such files. This feature will probably get added eventually, but it's not in the near term plans. Not that I know of. As I mentioned above, you may find it useful to put some time into learning Scribus. It provides a more complete featureset for doing printing, brochures, etc. However, you'll need to put some time into learning it, and the interface is distinctly different from Inkscape, so be forewarned about that. However, I've heard good comments about it from professional printers, so it may be well worth the time. Bryce

I have a few comments/questions. 1) Multi-page documents? My wife made a brochure but didn't like having to have two separate files for the outside and inside of her document. Does the file format allow multiple pages? And where is this documented? 2) I want to have my grid and other measurements to be in inches. Where can the default units be defined so when I start up inkscape it shows inches? Where is this documented? (I know how to change it for one session or per document but I want it as the default -- and should not require recompiling.) 3) My wife used to use commercial and proprietary software that had wizards and easy interface for making brochures and greeting cards. Using inkscape in addition to openclipart is a substitute, but still all the layout must be done, images found and saved, resized, etc. Any thoughts on a wizard or a simple interface to help? Presentations with Inkscape

Hello, I'm currently preparing a talk and thus looking for a presentation software. The following criterias have to be met: * open source software * should either run on my Apple iBook, a NetBSD system, or both I've been toying with Inkscape lately, and I enjoyed drawing some figure for the talk. It's real fun to use all the nice features like rounded boxes, transparency, etc. Inkscape provides. So while I was at it, I just went ahead and created the correspondent presentation slide. It took some time until I actually discovered "inkview" -- you should definitely place a note somewhere, so people will find it! But this is just the thing I was looking for. No fancy transitions and other useless stuff, but clean font rendering and nice figures. Fonts actually render much cleaner than in Apple Works' presentations. It's a lot faster than batik-slideshow, plus it scales the slide down, so you don't have to worry about that when you draw it. So, I just wanted to thank you for this great piece of software, and keep it up! Just as a side note: I installed Inkscape 0.40 and all its dependencies from The NetBSD Packages Collection [1] both on NetBSD and Mac OS X 10.3, and it works like a charm. (Except that I cant get fullscreen output from inkview, but that may be related to Apple's X11 implementation.) [1] <http://www.pkgsrc.org/> Regards, Christoph

Inkscape 0.40 installation

Hi, I'm currenty still using Inkscape 0.38, which was included in my Linux distribution (Ubuntu), but when I tried to compile v 0.40, I get error messages at the end of ./configure, saying that some libs (like XML) are missing. How can I fix this? Actually, since 0.38 works, all of the required libs should be installed, and I really would like to check out the new features! Sorry, we're dealing with users here not developers. I see it as potentially more harmful than good. When I look at extension-errors.log the first thing I see is "Extension "AI Output" failed to load because a dependency was not met. Dependency:: type: executable location: path string: pstoedit" and this is followed by another 12 of the same. Firstly, new user probably does not know what "dependency" means. Secondly, he/she might and I stress just might know what "type:executable" means. Third, probably doesn't know what "location:path" means and fourthly doesn't know what "string: pstoedit" means. And this goes on and on. If they don't know what they mean how are they going to install them? No way, except they have a friendly developer. Hey,and if they turn the message off. How do they get it to show again if they want to check to see whether their installation has been successful, and they have forgotten where to look? color loss when saving adob illustrator file in eps-format?

Hello, I've made some figures in Adobe Illustrator to be included in my final thesis written in Latex. But when I save the files in eps-format the different color shades get lost and are replaced by 4 colors: the plain cymk. Perhaps I'm talking to the wrong forum, but a lot of people suggested me to put a post about this topic here. I hope somebody really could help me out! Kind regards, Maurits Billiet

Win32 build failed to load extensions

I've been downloading Win32 builds from http://inkscape.org/win32-snap/ the last few days. Since a week or longer, the builds do not start up normally anymore. I always get the following notice: ---------------------------------------- One or more extensions failed to load. The failed extensions have been skipped. Inkscape will continue to run normally but those extensions will be unavailable. For details to troubleshoot this problem, please refer to the error log located at:C:\Documents and Settings\ArnoutS\Application Data\Inkscape\extension-errors.log ---------------------------------------- I have pasted the contents of extension-errors.log below. While these extensions aren't essential for me, I was still wondering... will these extensions be distributed with Inkscape in the future? Why do they refer to Linux-style paths in the Windows build? Could I get something working by adjusting the PATH variable, so things like pstoedit get found?
