Hello to the group. I'm new here and new to Inkscape. I've spent way too many hours on this, so I'm going to ask..... I have created an image of a plaque. The border around it is essentially lines and curves connected together until they meet at the starting point, then another that is one grid square inside of the first. I want to fill the area between the parallel lines (that form the border) with a color, then fill the inside of the plaque image with a different color. I can manage to get odd-ball areas to fill with color, but that's it. What am I doing wrong? Chuck

RESETTING DEFAULTS

HELLO INKSCAPE - I LOVE WHAT YOU PEOPLE ARE DOING! NOW I NEED TO KNOW SOMETHING. I'VE BEEN FOOLING AROUND FOR AWHILE, & READING EVERY POST ON THIS FORUM. I LIKE TO ANSWER MY OWN QUESTIONS FIRST, BUT NOW I'M STYMIED. USING 4.2 ON OSX.3.9 I REALIZED THAT WHEN I OPENED A NEW DOCUMENT IT RETAINED WHATEVER FORMATTING TO SHAPE FILL COLOR & LINE I HAD MADE WHILE FOOLING AROUND THE LAST TIME. TODAY, I DRAGGED 4.2 TO THE TRASH & INSTALLED 4.2.2 USUALLY, I LIKE TO TRASH THE PLIST FILE, CACHE, & ANYTHING ELSE I CAN FIND LIKE THIS TOO. OTHERWISE I'VE HAD PROBLEMS CARRY OVER OR EVEN NEW ONES CREATED ( I LEARNED THIS TRICK FROM APPLE SUPPORT FORUM , ERASING & REINSTALLING & UPGRADING OSX SEVERAL TIMES ). BUT I CAN'T FIND ANY OTHER FILES OR FOLDERS FOR INKSCAPE OTHER THAN THE APP ICON ITSELF, ANYWHERE ON MY COMPUTER. SO, JUST AS I FEARED, THE VERY SHAPE,COLOR & LINE MODIFICATIONS I PERFORMED LAST SESSION FOOLING AROUND UNDER 4.2 ARE STILL THE DEFAULTS FOR NEW DOCS UNDER THE NEW INSTALLATION OF 4.2.2, NOW, I WENT THROUGH ALL THE MENUS & PREFS I COULD FIND. DEFAULT BUTTONS FOR THE SHAPE TOOLS RESET THE SHAPES THEMSELVES BACK TO ORIGINAL, BUT NOTHING I FOUND WILL RESET THE COLOR OR LINE ASPECTS BACK TO A DEFAULT. SO, IS THERE A WAY TO RESET GLOBAL DEFAULTS FOR ENTIRE APPLICATION AT ONCE ? OR, FAILING THAT, WHERE IS THAT PESKY LITTLE PLIST FILE HIDING ?! - THANX FOR A GOOD TIME, ROCK FEST

Area Selection Tool?

I really enjoy using Inkscape for refining and processing line art. Sometimes I'll use Inkscape to color, however, this requires me to create a new shape by meticulously tracing areas by hand. Is there any tool that would just let me click an empty area and have it automatically create a new shape by detecting the edges of nearby paths? This vector equivalent to the bitmap fuzzy-select/magic-wand tool would be extremely useful. Chris

Announce: Scribus 1.2.3 Released

The Scribus Team is pleased to announce the release of Scribus 1.2.3 - Open Source Page Layout. The Scribus team urges all users and distros to use this latest stable release. The 1.2.3 release is focused on minor enhancements, bugfixes and additional documentation. Building on the 1.2.2.1 version released in July, 1.2.3 refines the 1.2 series with many fixes and some enhancements : Scribus now supports the proposed openicc specification for color management profiles. The 1.2.3 release also adds updated English documentation, along with many updated GUI translations. Inkscape font help

Hello. I'm a new Inkscape user, and was hoping anyone out there would be able to help me on a specific problem with the program. I have new ttf fonts that I've installed on my computer, but Inkscape won't recognise them. Other users have been unable to help. I use a Windows 98 system. Exporting Inkscape graphic for high-quality printing

Hi everyone, I have created an Inkscape SVG with Inkscape 0.40 (the version from Ubuntu 5.04 Synaptic). I then wanted to export it to EPS because I have to give it to a print shop (it's a poster in A0 format). However, the exported EPS was of poor quality. Especially the gradients were not exported at all, and the text looks quite shaky although it displays fine on screen, even when zooming in. I then downloaded Inkscape 0.42 from the website, in the hope that it may solve some of these problems. But I still cannot export anything vector-based which will look exactly like the original drawing. In particular: - PDF export does not contain most objects, and only exports A4 size - EPS export still does not print the gradient correctly (even if printed on a Adobe-certified Postscript 3 printer), and the text either looks very clunky (when using "convert text to curves") or has the wrong font (when not using the former) - SVG (plain) export looks terrible in Adobe SVG viewer (only text, in Courier font, no graphics) Any ideas? Website translation procedure

Hi all, pistoncito asked about how to do translations of the website currently. I figure this suggests we need some sort of documentation, so here's a start. It sounds like we will need to change this process once we figure out how to do the automatic web browser language detection, but until that gets sorted out, we should use this process. I'll also post this to Wiki so folks can update it as better approaches are worked out for it. http://wiki.inkscape.org/cgi-bin/wiki.pl?WebsiteEditing Translating the Inkscape Website ================================ 1. Do a CVS checkout of the website module. 2. Create a subdirectory at the top level with your language code. I.e.: inkscape_web/es/ 3. Copy pages from the main site into your subdir structure, and begin translating them. Look in the other translated areas for examples of what needs translated. Note: The tutorial translations in the doc/ directory are handled separately from the website translation. These are the files in inkscape_web/doc/*/ that have .XX.html extensions. You do not need to do anything about these pages. Note: The translation of doxygen, wiki, and the various SF pages are separate from the website translation. You do not need to do anything about these pages. 4. Add a flag for your language in the images directory. It should be named inkscape_web/images/flag-XX.png. (where XX is your language code). Next add an img for the flag to inkscape_web/includes/header.php See how the other flags are done in that file as an example. 5. Add a news item to the index page announcing your translation. You are encouraged to write it in both English and your native language. 6. If you have CVS access, then commit your changes to the site. See the Website Editing and Working With CVS documentation for directions. If you do not have CVS access, then show your translation to one of the Inkscape administrators for review. They will then give you access to CVS and the website, so you can deploy your changes. Bryce
