Two questions about paths and node sculpting

Hi, some comment in another thread reminded me that I always wanted to ask: - Can I make a path (created from text) fit in a shape (for example like in this image from a German FontWork article: http://www.ooowiki.de/FontWork/SchriftMitBild?action=AttachFile&do=get&targ… Would I use node sculpting for this? If yes, how would I go about it? If no, is there another way? - Suppose I select only the nodes in the upper part of a shape and drag one from the top further upwards (with "Alt" pressed for node sculpting). How do I get the other selected nodes to "distribute" evenly between the node being dragged and the fixed nodes? Effects-Perspective, Python, Sources.

Hi all, Youtube tutorial on perspective is absolutely outstanding! I compiled Inkscape 0.45.1 from sources over the platform ,but by Perspective effect seems to not work too much properly, I know that The Object working as perspective should have 4 and only 4 nodes. Moreover I tried to work in the same way as in movieclip - the effect: all my objects stood in place as created. Are there any other requirements for good perspective effects other than '4 nodes' ? Maybe the problem is in python or that my Inkscape was compiled form sources? Paul.

Placing Guides

Thanks for the response on measuring objects. Just one more question how do I place guides exactly where I want them. For ex if I want a guide to appear 50% of the horizontal area of a document can I specify this somewhere or do I just have to drag until I get it where I want it ____________________________________________________________________________________Be a better Heartthrob. object size function of page format?

Hi, I'm a newbie using inkscape to annotate a floor plan I've created with cairo. I'm having a few little problems when I try to do this. The first problem is that the size of the objects in my floor plan change when I change the page format. For example, if I generate a square intended to print as 1" on a side, it initially is the correct size when I open the svg file with inkscape. However, after I pick a page format (eg: US Letter), the size of the square changes significantly. I'm not sure if this is newbie ignorance or a bug in cairo or inkscape. Below is some C code that generates an svg file with a 1" square as an example. How can I make objects print at their original size without simply manually rescaling everything after setting the page format? How To Install Type 1 Fonts on Linux Debian/Ubuntu?

Dear All, I am a new list member (although long-time Inkscape user), please accept my apologies if this question has been asked and answered in some place that I can't find or am unaware off. All the fonts I can see listed in my Inkscape installation are TTF. I have Type 1 fonts on my system and would like to use them in Inkscape, e.g. for embedding. I've read that there are problems with this on Windows and OSX, is this true for Linux also? If not, can anyone suggest a method I can follow? I'm no stranger to the command line and I've previously learnt more about Debian/Ubuntu font management that I ever wanted to ;-) Dave

Crop tool?

In Gimp one can "flatten" a document to put all layers and all pieces into one object. Once this is done one can crop to a segment of the object and if needed enlarge it to a new size. I need those steps or equivalent to create a multi page (and more readable) version of the help document "keys.svg. Hi there, I would like to ask about inkscape gradient fill option. When I use gradients I can easily recognise tone steps in the gradient ..especially when I am using few gredient filled objects with different transparency levels. What might be the reason ? I using Debian , Xorg 24 bit Color Depth. When I draw the same picture under windows with AI or Photoshop the gradients are more smooth. 16-bit?

Hi all, I would like to know if it is possible to export/save Inkscape files in a color depth of 16-bit/channel? I would like to edit a bitmap in 16-bit, by drawing "over" it with the Inkscape tools, and then exporting it as a 16-bit bitmap (maybe PNG, if the 16-bit are kept). Setting dimensions.

The default dimension setting for the marginal scales in Inkscape is in pixels which makes sense for most developmental work. But I prefer to work in inches, since my finished products (book covers) must be laid out very precisely in inches to get the spine to come out right. Of course one can create the components in inkscape and then stitch them together in e.g., Gimp, Scribus or even TeX. But I prefer to deal with the whole product in one program if possible. In Gimp there is an item in the lower left corner that resets the scales in e.g., inches. I need some input on the open source community on this one. I ran across a simple but neat tutorial on gimptalk.com on how to do woven tribal artwork with GIMP. I've since adjusted the method for inkscape and put a short 5 step tutorial together on how to do the appropriate path manipulations. I would like to post this somewhere. I have tried to contact the original author "Clay Ogre" but have not received a reply. Would I be stepping on anyone's toes if I posted this? If not where could I post it? If so, I'll just keep it as a reference for myself. ~A

unable to copy objects between documents

Hi, If I generate text from cairo and create an svg output, I'm able to see the text from inkscape, but attempts to copy that text to a new document fail. As an example, in the source code that I provided in my previous post entitled "object size function of page format?", an svg file is created with an "X" in the center of of a square. If I copy the grouped object containing the square and the "X" into a new document, only the square appears... the X doesn't show up. Where did it go? Problem with Z order in basic tutorial

Everything works as advertised until I get to the Section on Z-Order. The altl+click and alt+drag either finds the green rectangle or the whole page, which is not what is intended. I use a fairly vanilla verson of Slackware Linux 11 and KDE 3.5. My Inkscape alleges that it is Inkscape 0.45. I apologize if there is and I simply didn't find it, but a google search mostly turned up results for people using Inkscape to create mascots for Other programs. XD I'm wondering if there's an Inkscape mascot or discussions about one, because I hope to make an Inkscape anime tutorial for my friends eventually, and I thought it might be a good idea to somehow base the design off of something from Inkscape. Overriding colors in cloned objects

Hi, I am trying to create a set of cloned objects all of which have the same (inherited) fill color, but have different stroke colors. According to all available documentation, the 'Unset color' means that the fill or stroke color will be inherited and this seems to work perfectly. However, if one of cloned objects is set to a specific color nothing appears to happen. The object colors shown on the status bar seem to show the correct information: fill is 'unset', stroke is red. The XML looks correct too: xlink:href to the 'parent' object and 'style' containing 'stroke:red'. Have I missed something? Many thanks,
