command-line export SVG with area-drawing: Workaround via PDF, but exported area is wrong!

Hi, i have to export an Adobe-Illustrator (AI) file to SVG with export option "export-area-drawing". I know this option is not available on SVG-Files jet. So i tried a workaround.... I exorted the AI file as PDF with area-drawing and then to SVG. This works fine, but....... the exported area in the pdf file is wrong.... the image is truncated... 2 px from image top are repeated at the bottom.... So, the easiest way to solve my problem would be to use "export-area-drawing" on SVG files. but the roadmap doesnt say whether this option is possible in the future....or does it? New version of Alchemy is out w/ SVG support

SVG support was added to svn a little while ago, but now it's in a release. You can set your preferred vector format to SVG now instead of PDF. I personally find it compliments Inkscape nicely. http://al.chemy.org/news/alchemy-008-beta-release/ Cheers, Josh

SVG to finally gets some support from MS?

It seems Microsoft has applied to take part in the W3C SVG working group. Could that means they are finally coming around to supporting SVG in IE (after attempting to develop their own web vector format as part of WPF). I was poking around, looking at computer languages, and I came across this: http://www.alancsmith.co.uk/logo/ It's a logo implementation with turtle graphics capability, and you can export to svg. It will also do movies, check out the gallery page, very interesting stuff.

Future plans for speeding up Inkscape?

I was wondering if anyone was planning on mods to speed up inkscape's interface and 3D ops? I.e. where it "feels" like it could really benefit would be use of 3D hardware acceleration in doing some of it's on-screen rotations and movements. Other areas with more 'niche' or smaller payoff would be using CUDA-based highly parallel processing (I hear that CUDA libs are good at scaling many points in parallel), followed by multiple CPU cores, and use of 64-bit instructions. I think the most bang for the buck and most general would come from using 3D HW accel and moving to the extra memory provided by 64-bit. I know that running out of memory is where Adobe Illus. quickly fails on larger vector drawings, especially in the undo/redo system. It's amazing what Inkscape can do and how easy it is to do thing when it comes to vector stuff, but my version (.47) doesn't seem real stable after I've been running it for a while. All of my long edit sessions in _playing_ with advanced features have ended by it crashing. I wasn't trying to do anything in particular so I don't remember the workflow I did each time, but it was usually after it had been up a while. Only once did I actually get to a point of saving an output w/o it crashing. I'm a complete novice when it comes to computer art/SVG art, so I'd sure I was doing something that was 'unreasonable'... :-) I didn't try to report the bug at the time as I'm sure the developers have their plate full with other problems and since I'm not real familiar with correct operation, I didn't want to be told that I wasn't using the product 'the right way' and by being a beginner, the crashes were due to me trying to do things that I should have done differently (though I tend to believe programs shouldn't crash in such situations, but there could be workarounds that would be known if I was more adept with the program). I can try to report bugs if I'm not made to feel worthless for reporting them if I don't also include fixes for them...like I have got on some projects...(oh the joys of open source projects :-) ). I feel that Joshua (not me) summed that up nicely. It boils down to that we are an open and welcoming community. Feedback is welcomed and appreciated, and the more info you can provide, the better for experience for everyone. We don't tend to take issue unless you want to complain and suggest how we can do it better. We don't know better than you, and we won't (generally claim to) know what's right. Tell us. Making a dial

Hi all, I'm about trying to make a dial by following the tips on Tavmjong's web site at http://tavmjong.free.fr/INKSCAPE/MANUAL/html/Tiles-Tricks.html but I just can't figure out how to handle the parameters within the 'tiled clones' dialogue. I managed to set the center of rotation, and checked 'exclude' for the columns, but how do I proceed after that? (I selected P1 translation.) For a start, I just wanted to make a dial composed of 4 short strokes, at 0°, 90°, 180°, and 270°, but even this seems to be difficult. Sorry, but the rows/columns part is a bit confusing to me. Animation in Inkscape

Hello I am a newbie to Inkscape and scripting in general. I am trying to build an animation extension with Inkscape for doing simple animations as a project in my multimedia course. For that I need to add a timeline in Inkscape and write the timing data for a particular object manipulated by the user into my animation file. Is this possible with Inkscape extensions? Could anyone guide me in finding a resource who could help me with this? Regards Sanat
