Once I use a lot of objects inkscape is too slow

Hi, Firstly, Thank you for this open source project. I've just started using this software but came across problem when I have a lot of objects in one window. It becomes very slow and then not usable if I compare the acceleration with eg. Corel Draw. In Corel Draw on WinXP I have the same amount of objects and it's fine but inkscape's slows down rapidly. I have processor Sempron 2800+ and NVidia FX5200 graphic card running on Knoppix. Is there any way how to make it inkscape working faster? Some kind of acceleration, something like directx for linux? Maybe recompiling the kernel properly? I didn't have time for this yet though. I'm quite new to linux too. Hopefully somebody has an answer for me.. Thank you. Ladislav

Autopackage: dependence on libcairo.so.2

Hi there, I'm usually working at a workstation at university which is centrally administered, so I'm really thankful for the Inkscape autopackages that allow me to use the development version without much installation hassle. However the latest autopackage 20062270113 seems to depend on libcairo.so.2 which is not installed. Our machines contain a nearly clean and fairly complete Debian stable, so I think this dependence should generally be avoided in the autopackage. Bug in layers

Hello, There is a bug in the layers code when loading an SVG document with a single group (g element) and adding layers to it. In this case, Inkscape will sometimes show "Root" as a layer and when I move objects between the layers, they get sometimes lost. I even had the effect that I moved six elements and afterwards, three were in the layer and three were gone. A couple of undos usually get the objects back. I'd propose that you create a new artificial layer when a document has none and the user adds one (ie. after adding the first layer, the user will have two layers). Alternatively, move all objects into the first created layer. Or, even better, realize layers with classes. Since an object can be in several classes (you have to separate the class names with blanks, I think), objects could be in several layers at once. Regards, -- Aaron "Optimizer" Digulla a.k.a. Box around text when exported as EPS

I'm trying to convert a bitmap of a logo to vector. Trace did a pretty good job, but some of the font serifs weren't quite right so I kept the rest of the image and then recreated the text using the text facility in Inkscape. It all looks fine, but when I export to EPS and then place that into pagemaker, etc. I'm left with a box around the text I created. If I take the SVG file and open it in Illustrator it's fine. If I save as EPS in Illustrator, it's fine. Is this a bug in the EPS export facility in Inkscape or am I doing something wrong? Bending text box

Hello everybody, Not sure how to explain this in english : I'd like to put text around a globe, so would like to be able to have a text box that would fit the curve of the globe. Noob question about shapes

Hi, After only just discovering Inkscape, I'm just practicing drawing simple, cartoon animals. One thing I'd like to do, but cannot figure out is how to draw an egg shape. The elipse is easy, but how do I narrow the top to make it look more like an actual egg? inkscape and unicode font not working

Hi, I'm trying to use inkscape to open a svg file generated by lilypond but I'm having some problems: inkscape shows boxes instead of music notes. I do have the corrected fonts installed (have tried them with other programs). I could narrow the problem down to this: 1. put the emmentaler fonts in ~/.fonts 2. run fc-cache 3. open inkscape, select the emmentaler font from the text tool 4. type ctrl-u e125, that should give me a notehead glyph but I get a non-printable character message instead this url has the otf font and a "print out" with the font glyphs (from fontforge, useful to know the unicode code) in case someone feels like taking a look: http://www.pedrokroeger.net/inkscape/ I thought the problem was related to some library, but firefox can render this beautifully using the emmentaler font: <html>  </html> I'm using inkscape 0.43, fontforge 20060125, and pango 1.10.2. Just noticed openclipart.org redirects to freedesktop.org. I don't know how long it's been like this. Does anyone know where it's gone or when/if openclipart.org will be back? Thanks, Chris
