inkscape and unicode font not working

Hi, I'm trying to use inkscape to open a svg file generated by lilypond but I'm having some problems: inkscape shows boxes instead of music notes. I do have the corrected fonts installed (have tried them with other programs). I could narrow the problem down to this: 1. put the emmentaler fonts in ~/.fonts 2. run fc-cache 3. open inkscape, select the emmentaler font from the text tool 4. type ctrl-u e125, that should give me a notehead glyph but I get a non-printable character message instead this url has the otf font and a "print out" with the font glyphs (from fontforge, useful to know the unicode code) in case someone feels like taking a look: http://www.pedrokroeger.net/inkscape/ I thought the problem was related to some library, but firefox can render this beautifully using the emmentaler font: <html>  </html> I'm using inkscape 0.43, fontforge 20060125, and pango 1.10.2. Just noticed openclipart.org redirects to freedesktop.org. I don't know how long it's been like this. Does anyone know where it's gone or when/if openclipart.org will be back? Thanks, Chris

Open Clip Art integration

inkscape-users, New to inkscape. Read through most of the docs and searched quite a bit before posting. How do I integrate open clip art and inkscape? OR how does inkscape make use of hte XML that comes with open clip art? I guess I'm expecting a menu or window to be available in inkscape with thumb nails of all the clip art which I can search based on the XML tags. Thanks, Paul --------------------------------- Yahoo! NEWBIE: drawing maps ?

Please, I am considering the use of Inkscape to draw simple maps. The main problem I see so far is the indication of roads. To do this I need to draw sets of two parallel curves a small distance apart. For rivers I need the same feature, but I need to colour the region between the lines. I also need to create my own objects that I can place anywhere on the map: bridges, canal locks, compass points etc. But I get the impression this is quite easy. How can I go about this ?
