Inkscape 0.43 Hard Freeze

With the completion of the bug party today, it is time to move into the hard freeze for Inkscape 0.43, under the watch of our release wardens pjrm and joncruz. Today's testing unfortunately did not cover all of the new features, but we did manage to bang on the connector code really hard, and scared up a number of bugs in it (no showstoppers, but a couple crashes and a lot of odd behaviors.) We attempted to get the inkboard feature working, but did not succeed in establishing a working connection, so there's at least one bug there... We closed about 10 bugs today, mostly invalid/dupe/outdated, but there were a few fixes. pjrm and joncruz will be the release wardens for this release. All changes to the codebase must go through them. Do not commit to CVS; instead post your changes as patches to the tracker with your rationale for why to include them before or after the 0.43 release. Peter and Jon will decide when the codebase is ready for release. This may include requiring specific bugs be fixed, or tasks to be done. When they feel it is ready, the codebase will be tagged and branched, and we will enter the release phase. I will continue to track tasks for the 0.43 release, but it will be up to them whether to wait until all those tasks are complete or to decide we are ready to release with some tasks still unfinished. FOP (SVG2PDF)

This looks like it might be interesting: http://xmlgraphics.apache.org/fop/ Sounds like it's able to take input from SVG and produce PDF. If anyone's interested in svg2pdf, this might be worth experimenting with to see if it's any good. It's available under the Apache license. Bryce

Bug Party Saturday!

Announcement: Bug Party Invitation In an effort to beat the bug tracker and the feature tracker into submission, the Inkscape project is hosting a "Bug Party" on Saturday, September 24, 2005. This is an excellent opportunity for new contributors and non-developers to participate in the project. All day long (in the US time) the IRC channel #inkscape on server irc.freenode.org will be open, along with the correspondent Jabber room (see http://inkscape.org/discussion.php for more details). We expect to reach peak hours at 16-20 UTC on September 24 (8-12 PST) and 0-4 UTC on September 25 (16-20 PST on September 24) and guarantee presence of core Inkscape developers on those time intervals. Effect submission

I received a mail form one Carsten Goetze the other day asking how to submit an effect for inclusion in the inkscape distribution. Every time I tried to reply my mail was rejected by the remote server. Carsten, if you read these lists, I'm sorry that I wasn't able to get back to you immediately. Please post your effect to the patch tracker <http://sourceforge.net/tracker/?group_id=93438&atid=604308> and send a mail the the mailing lists to encourage everyone to test your work. Aaron Spike
