Hi, I have Inkscape-0.42-1.win32. Its surface is made very well and I like it like this. Yesterday I downloaded a new "Win32 build" version. It has a different surface - more crude, with heavy black lines and a dull grey color - but intresting functions. See: http://www.hagoschaos.de/test/ink.html I would like to keep the old optic with the new functions. Is there a way to adapt the look of the new inkscape to my wishes? (I found ...\Inkscape\share\themes\Default\gtk-2.0\gtkrc and was able to change the size of the large-toolbar, but I couldn't change colors or anything else) Regards, Hago

Learning Inkscape

Hello, My question has to do with learning ways to help Inkscape to run more smoothly on my computer. Is there a way to manually allocate more of my system resources to Inkscape? Not sure if I asked that in correct terms, but in my Adobes I am able to assign memory usage and scratch disks. I am enjoying Inkscape tremendously and REALLY would like to use it more in my work (I am an illustrator). But it runs very slow and take a while to refresh the display when any changes are made or a new work window is opened. My main work system is: Win2k , dual PIII processors, 1GB system RAM, and an NVIDIA GeForce FX 5200. Not the newest or fastest of machines (It's home-built), but a very stable multitasker, and very seldom do I have such slowdowns when working with the Adobes, I generally have projects open in Photoshop, Illustrator, and InDesign all at once, and move artwork back and forth between them all day. So, I think the problem I'm having with Inkscape may have more to do with my settings. I've looked for more information on this subject, but perhaps have not known what to look for. Sometimes terminology is the biggest problem (in that I don't know any :o) I'm always happy to work things through by myself, and am not afraid to tackle complex tasks if someone could point the way for me, or suggest some settings to adjust. I also have Inkscape installed in Ubuntu on another throw-together system, it seems to work a little smoother there, but still pretty slow. Any help or suggestions would be very appreciated. Announce Scribus 1.3.1 - Unité - Open Source Page Layout

The Scribus Team is pleased to announce the release of Scribus 1.3.1 - Unité - Open Source Page Layout. The 1.3.1 release is the second development version towards a new stable 1.4. Building on the 1.3.0 version released in July, 1.3.1 brings new features never before available in any open source application. * Scribus now natively supports spot color printing for true DeviceN color space support, natively rendering spot colors, with no maximum limit to the number of spot colors. Scribus uses enhanced spot and separation previews for previewing all separations when a recent version of Ghostscript is available. The new DeviceN color support can also convert spot colors into composite CMYK in both print and PDF export. DeviceN support works with both EPS and PDF export. * This release also adds support for displaying colors and making color choices with an intelligent color wheel for color schemes and for individuals with color viewing impairments. This is a first, we believe, for any page layout application. * Scribus text frames now support in-line graphics, both images along with scaled vector drawings. * Additional code, patches and fixes for Win32 and Mac OSX compatibility. Substantial progress has been made for both platforms and a 1.3.1 release of Scribus for OSX will be available soon. A Win32 native release is hoped to be available for one of the next 1.3.x releases. * Scribus now has a Calendar Creation Wizard python plug-in with support for several languages. * New experimental, optional build time support for using the Cairo graphics library as a rendering engine. Currently, there are some minor performance issues, however, most notably gradient display is improved. * Many improvements in page and document layout. Scribus now supports variable page sizes and orientations within a single document, as well as when printing or exporting PDF. No other page layout application gives designers and end users the ability to use differing size pages and orientation in a single document with such ease. * Implemented a new startup dialog with more options for creating, or opening recent and existing documents. * Continued improvements in ICC color support including searching system directories for ICC profiles. hello, i have one question about vectorize png images: The default png image has a size of 130 KB, after vectorize with 64 scannings with 64 colors (stapel) and save it as .svg i have a file of 2.6 MB!! when i open the file with kwrite it is a simple xml document with maybe two dinA4 pages, what is on it 2,6MB?? what can i do to make my svg files smaller, and save the same quality? Libre Graphics Meeting

Hi all, A few weeks back, I sent a call to arms for a conference I'm organising with David Odin in Lyon next March. Since then, a lot's happened - we've confirmed the dates and location - CPE Lyon, the 17/18/19 March 2006. And we've started assembling a line-up. The main purpose of the conference is to get the developers of different projects in the same place, and talking. The other main purpose of the conference is to have the developers of those projects meet their users (and vice versa), and in general to chill out, maybe get some work done, and have a good time. Jon Phillips will be giving a talk on Inkscape, OpenClipart and creative commons, someone from Blender will be coming to present Project Orange (I hope), and there will also be presentations of Scribus from mrdocs and MrB, and the GIMP, although I don't know by whom yet. The current plan is to have 2 very light days of presentations on Friday and Saturday, and to consecrate Sunday completely to impromptu BOFs, hackfests, demos, brainstorming sessions, whatever happens. Should be fun, and I'd really like to see a good showing for Inkscape. Can people interested in attending please add their names to teh GIMP wiki at http://wiki.gimp.org/gimp/LibreGraphicsMeeting (we'll have a better site soon).
