Type1 Fonts on Windows XP
by Norvell Spearman
How do I configure Inkscape for Windows to see the Type1 fonts I have
installed? The GIMP sees them fine (which also uses freetype), as
does OpenOffice.org. The font names and corresponding pfb file names
even show up in my .fonts.cache-1 file but I still can't see them in
Inkscape. Thanks for any answers.

Draw a web site using only Inkscape
by Haakon Meland Eriksen
Hello, everyone!
I'm new to the list, and would like to thank the Inkscape developers for
making great free (as in freedom) software and for promoting an
important open standard, SVG, as the drawing format.
Konqueror 3.5.x ( and Apple's Safari?) and Mozilla Firefox 2.x are SVG
enabled, which means children can now draw their web site using only
Inkscape and put the linked SVG files directly on the web. This is very
easy, a lot of fun, and I find the results are colourful and vivid. I've
made a simple example - would you like to see? Take a look at
http://far.no/svg/web.svg
Yours sincerely,
Haakon Meland Eriksen

Are there any forums for support or is it only this mailing list.
Mailing lists are sooooo hard to follow and messages are all over the place.

selection problem
by Georg P. Israel
Dear All,
it seems that I have from time to time the problem that I can't select
my drawing objects anymore!
Just for your information, I am using Inkscape Version 0.45.1 on M$
Windows XP.
I can double click on them, but nothing gets selected.
The only way to select them is by opening the XML tree viewer and
selecting the item there.
Does anybody know how to overcome this issue??
Best regards

Re: [Inkscape-user] Inkscape-user Digest, Vol 12, Issue 62
by Tony Vigil
Elwin,
Not exactly.
You can run SwishMax just fine via CrossOver (Wine) in Linux. SwishMax is only $99.00, which is quite a bit less than the $$$ price tag for Adobe's Flash.

Yes, but isn't content creation for Flash pretty much tied to either Windows or a Mac (no
linux...unless you want to jump through a buncha hoops), and the $$$ for buying Flash
from Macromedia?

Inkscape for bitmap editing
by Claus Cyrny
Hi all,
I don't know if anyone has tried this, yet, but I just starting
using Inkscape as a bitmap (!) editor. The main reason for this
was the task to isolate a (bitmap) object against its background.
I've e basically used the Gimp until now, but my main problem was
aliasing (or bad anti-aliasing) at the edges of the object(s).
Now I discovered that if the new background is just one color,
Inkscape can be of tremendous help. Particularly the splines are
amazingly easy to use, and if I am using the proper zoom factor,
the results are way better than when using the Gimp. (I guess
this technique is basically called "vector painting", and a few
years ago there was an app from the now defunct company
'discreet' called 'paint*', which did just that, but 'paint*' was
much more high-end than Inkscape, and you could even animate
the splines.)
In addition, due to the incredible ease of use of Inkscape, the
work flow is really a breeze! ;-) I can pan using the middle mouse
button, maybe zoom in or out using '+' or '-', draw, pan again, and
so forth.
Greetings,
Claus

Inkscape for bitmap editing
by Tony Vigil
Claus,
Is Discreet Paint the same thing as Satori Paint?
http://www.satoripaint.com/
I've never used Discreet or Satori Paint, but my google search for "Discreet Paint" came up with some hits for "Satori Paint" as well. It seems to do what you describe, including the spline animation. Same product maybe?
