Inkscape 0.46-final plans (March 10th)
by Bryce Harrington
ScislaC and I are quite pleased with how -pre3 has shaped up, and are
making the last call for 0.46.0 bug fixes, translations, etc. We will
tag 0.46.0 at UTC 04:00 Mar 11 2008.
I've incorporated all patches sent to me or nominated for 0.46.x. If
you have something I've missed, please get it to me this weekend.
There are 7 milestoned bugs left: 3 are translations, 3 are
windows-specific, and 1 has a patch that just needs a quick test.
The translation patches I trust will be squared away in the coming
days. Bug 189432 has a fix committed to trunk for upside down text with
PDF, that just needs checked and I can commit the patch.
For any remaining translation work, please arrange to get it
incorporated in the release branch by March 10th.
For the 3 windows bugs, progress has been slow on these. The consensus
from the lengthy "0.46 release debate" thread is to tag 0.46.0 for Linux
so we can get the release into Ubuntu and Fedora (which have a drop-dead
date of March 13th for getting new Inkscape incorporated), but hold off
on PR two weeks to give the extra time for Windows developers, because
we would prefer to have full platform support for maximum PR
effectiveness. If the Windows bugs are not sufficiently resolved by
March 24th, we'll proceed with 0.46.0 being a non-Windows release, and
hope they can be addressed in time for 0.46.1.

Win32 installer string freeze + branch frozen and translation wardens
by Luca Bruno
Hi,
with this mail I've to tell you about two different topics.
Firstly, the strings of the win32 installer are frozen now too, so it's
time for translator to finalize their work.
The files to translate are under packaging/win32/ (or here [1]). Adib
is in charge for this task and will take care of them, please attach
them here or in launchpad (and Cc/assign them to him).
Moreover, the release wardens asked me and Adib to act as translation
warden for this release cycle. Till not, it was quite ok to just commit
new submitted po or review commit of translators with enough privileges.
Recently I've seen some breakage (prokoudine and helix Cc'ed here[2]),
so I'm forced to ask you all _to stop committing to branch_.
I'm not very happy with it, but I think it's the way to go (just
following normal source commit policy).
So please, let me aware of your update/patch for 0.46, and I'll happily
check and commit them. Also please note that this policy only affects
0.46 branch, while trunk is open as always.
Ciao, Luca

[2] please always use check-markup. ar and sk were throwing minor but
noisy errors.

Dude on a message (0.46) to be translated
by unknown@example.com
Hi all,
I'm updating Inkscape translation to Basque language.
I've got a dude about next messages:
#: ../src/sp-guide.cpp:405
#, c-format
msgid "at %d degrees, through (%s,%s); <b>Ctrl</b>+click to delete"
msgstr ""
Here, the 'trough' means something like a 'using a way', or is a noun
(meaning something like a vessel)
I guest these other messages can be translate as:
#: ../src/widgets/toolbox.cpp:1930
msgid "triangle/tri-star"
msgstr "hirukia/hru puntako izarra"
#: ../src/widgets/toolbox.cpp:1930
msgid "square/quad-star"
msgstr "karratua/lau puntako izarra"
I mean 'triangle/', 'square/' are translatable, nor?
Thanks and best regards,
Dooteo

Pedro XMPP
by helix84
Is it possible to translate Pedro XMPP? Looking at
src/pedro/pedrogui.cpp it's not internationalized yet. Will it be part
of the interface strings or will it get a separate strings file?

[felipe.sanches@...5...: new tooltips on filter effects dialog]

I have added a lot of new translatable strings to the filter effects
dialog. These strings are used on tooltips explaining the meaning of
each of the filter parameters. It is good to take a look at the svg
filters spec while translating these strings, so that translations are
properly contextualized.
The spec is here:
http://www.w3.org/TR/SVG11/filters.html
have a good time translating these!
