inkscape.pot missing vital entries
by Alexandre Prokoudine
Hello,
When I run 'make inkscape_pot' for current git master, I get this:
[100%] Generating ../../po/inkscape.pot
Unsuccessful open on filename containing newline at
/usr/bin/intltool-update line 1150.
And then the following top menu items are missing from POT (become obsolete):
_View, _Layer, _Object, _Path, _Filters, _Extensions, _Help.
Both _File, _Edit, and _Text are OK.
I'd gladly push updated ru.po, but without these essential bits it's
not worth it really.
Any ideas what could be causing this?

Translations for 0.92.2
by Eduard Braun
Hi all,
those of you following the discussions on inkscape-devel might already
know we're now in string freeze for the 0.92.2 release. That means you
can start translating safely, strings should not change anymore until
the release. Inkscape 0.92.2 final freeze is scheduled for Aug 4th, that
means you should have submitted your translation updates before that date.
There are a few new strings since 0.92.1, notably the file update dialog
asking how to handle the DPI change was updated.
As always, obtain the latest files in our repo (now switched to git):
https://gitlab.com/inkscape/inkscape/tree/0.92.x/po
* I just updated the inkscape.pot file in the repo which you should
base your work on.
Direct link to most recent version:
https://gitlab.com/inkscape/inkscape/raw/0.92.x/po/inkscape.pot
* For those of you who prefer to work with an updated .po file I
uploaded those as a 7z archive at
https://gitlab.com/Ede123/bintray/raw/HEAD/po/po_0.92.x_84f9b04.7z
Regarding .po vs. .pot:
I'm always unsure whether to update the .po files in the source
repository or if all of you can work with the .pot file?
I prefer not to update the individual .po files because of the typically
extreme size of the diff (which is often hard to handle by git tools and
unnecessarily blows up our repository size). However I obviously don't
want to limit your translation efforts, so please let me know if any of
you depend on .po files directly (so maybe I can consider to update the
repo completely next time or continue my ".po upload service")!
Best Regards and Happy Translating,
Eduard

Website: Privacy Policy Addition, Hackfest news and more
by Maren Hachmann
Hello Website Translators,
this time, we have some larger chunks to work on:
The privacy policy page at
https://inkscape.org/en/about/privacy/
has been updated to include a warning about Inkscape SVG files
containing information about your folder structure (when you have
exported png images, or linked to raster images).
You may never have noticed that page before, as it was a bit
semi-public, and it's not linked from anywhere but the registration
page, but hopefully will be soon (Martin promised to find a good place
for a link).
In case you have already worked on it, here is a graphical diff:
https://inkscape.org/en/~Moini/%E2%98%85website-update-privacy-2017-07-02
And we now have a long, and interesting news article about the recent
Hackfest in Paris, here:
https://inkscape.org/en/news/2017/07/12/what-happened-hackfest-2017/
News redirection (switching languages for news articles) should work
better now, too. If you find remaining issues, please post a bug report at
https://inkscape.org/en/news/2017/07/12/what-happened-hackfest-2017/
You can now subscribe to news articles on the Inkscape website, and even
select the language for your subscription.
Visit the news page and click on the tiny envelope at
the top of the news list. You need to be logged in to the website for
this to work.
If you want to only be notified when an English article has been edited
or published, you can visit your message settings (envelope icon
dropdown in the top right corner) after you have subscribed, then select
a language.
After a couple of weeks with no new strings, the website po files will
also be updated this weekend.
Thank you for all your help,
Kind Regards,
Maren

Repository POT file
by Martin Owens
Dear Translators,
I'm at the Inkscape Hackfest here in Paris and we were wondering if it
would be good or bad to remove the pot file and po files from the
master branch and separate them out into their own repository.
The pot file gets modified on each make, and it's causing some minor
issues for developers. So the preference for developers is for removal.
But this depends very heavily on HOW translations for inkscape are
done. If they are done 'in-place' or if translators expect to use a
service like launchpad translations which keeps track of everything.
Please let us know what you would like us to do with pot and po files
regarding development.
Best Regards, Martin Owens
