Localization Tool
by Yaron Shahrabani
Hi guys,
My name is Yaron and I haven't contributed to his magnificent tool in very
long years.
I went through the documentation and saw that we're in 2016 and the
translators still need to download the files and translate them manually.
I want to suggest an open source translation hosting and application called
WebLate by Michal Cihar (The creator of Wammu/Gammu for those who remember).
This system is tightly integrated with the VCS, and the most important
part: it supports Bazaar.
This is the web address: http://www.weblate.org
Michal is very kind and I really like working with WebLate.
I can do all the coordination needed and we don't need to use it
exclusively so it won't interfere with the current method.
Thank you all,
Yaron Shahrabani

Website: a couple of updates
by Maren Hachmann
Dear website translators,
a couple of pages have been updated and added recently:
- https://inkscape.org/en/develop/extensions/ has received additional
info about extension upload (diff available here:
https://inkscape.org/en/cms/diff/?revision_from=53016&revision_to=55864)
- the About Screen Contests page has left draft status and is now in use:
https://inkscape.org/en/community/about-screen-contests/
- the download pages for the different systems have been shortened and
simplified, and received a couple of new images. There are now no more
duplications that make editing seem like duplicate work.
However, for those pages, a replacement is in the makings. It will soon
be used, but not at the time of the release for 0.92 yet.
All those pages will need editing when the new version is released.
I'm not sure what to recommend to you - do the editing now, and just
replace a couple of links when the release is out, or do all the work in
one go when it really needs to be done. I think I will go with the first
option for German, trying to distribute the work that needs doing a bit
more evenly.
If you do not get around to translating the pages in time for the
release, you can also unpublish them (and, if that's not enough to make
them not be displayed, delete the plugins for your language - a known
bug), so the fallback in English is going to be used.
There isn't a lot of text on any of them, so it shouldn't be too much of
a problem for users. I will try to help with that, so we won't have too
many outdated files linked from the download section.
These are the pages that have been revised:
https://inkscape.org/en/download/
https://inkscape.org/en/download/linux/
https://inkscape.org/en/download/windows/
https://inkscape.org/en/download/mac-os/
https://inkscape.org/en/download/source/
This one is new:
https://inkscape.org/en/download/development-versions/
The following one will be replaced by a redirect to the extensions in
the gallery soon (I think):
https://inkscape.org/en/download/addons/
Thank you all for your help,
Regards,
Maren

Website: more new news
by Maren Hachmann
Hi everyone,
two news articles are ready for translation - one about the Windows
preview builds being available, and one for the About Screen contest.
So, if you're on Windows, you can now try out the preview, and use it to
create an About Screen contest entry ;-)

Release notes: Translations can start
by Maren Hachmann
Hi translators,
Bryce just sent an updated release plan to the devel mailing list.
It included this relevant section for us:
--------------------------
6. Release Notes - Apart from perhaps adding a few more known issues,
we are probably at a point we can consider the Notes complete.
This would be a good point to start translating them (or to bring
existing translations up to date.)
http://wiki.inkscape.org/wiki/index.php/Release_notes/0.92
-------------------------
I will start working on the German version today - but as it's a long
text, it's certainly enough work for two or three people. If anyone
wants to help, please contact me, so we can divide the work.
If you need Wiki access, please send a message to either the devs, docs
or developers mailing list, and also include the username you'd like to use.
I'll also update the news article to include links to the compiled
Windows packages, will send you a message when that is done.
Thanks, everyone!
Kind Regards,
Maren

Which translations should be included in 0.92 release?
by Eduard Braun
(CCing the "translators" list, since this concerns them, too, but please
keep discussion on "devel")
Hi all,
I'm in the progress of updating the Windows installer for 0.92 release
and asked myself which languages should be included in the final package?
Are there some guidelines or do we simply include all of them, even if
they're mostly outdated? How was this handled in the past?
Since languages seem to be hardcoded in "src/inkscape-preferences.cpp"
we probably can not just drop those languages during packaging.
Otherwise the language would still be offered as a choice, even if it's
not present (which is is also an issue if the user decides not to
install translations during installation).
FYI current language statistics are attached (I hope it get's through),
otherwise a copy is available from [1].
Best Regards,
Eduard

Website: Source page updated
by Maren Hachmann
Hi everyone,
Bryce has just uploaded the source code for the Beta version of Inkscape
0.92, and adapted the corresponding page on the website by adding the
link to the Beta and renaming the other prerelease links.
(A news item is still in the works.)

Thanks for your help!

Translation memory?
by Victor Westmann
Hi guys,
how are all of you doing today? :)
I was just wondering... I'm on a Windows machine, (Windows 7 64 bit) and I
mainly use the paid version of Poedit (I only paid because it is a software
I use for a long time and I believe in contributing money to the developer).
But I was just wondering.. is there a more efficient way you guys
translate your po files for Inkscape project? Is there a way you guys use
translation memory? Is there a way we can get past translations from past
versions of Inkscape and reuse them in the current translation? Preferably
automated way? :)
Any thoughts?
Cheers.
