Call for translations for Inkscape 1.1.2 (bug fix release, stable branch)
by Maren Hachmann
Hello Inkscape translators!
This is the official call for translations for the upcoming Inkscape
1.1.2 , which is planned to be released in early February.
1.1.2 is expected to be the last in the 1.1.x series of Inkscape, and it
is bugfix release, so the number of updated strings is small.
If you'd like to contribute to 1.1.2 translations, please coordinate
with everyone in your language's translation team, and get the latest po
and pot files from
https://gitlab.com/inkscape/inkscape/-/jobs/artifacts/1.1.x/download?job=...
Further information is available from
https://wiki.inkscape.org/wiki/Translation_information and
https://wiki.inkscape.org/wiki/Interface_translation
--------
If you are a translator for any of the languages below, please also
check your 1.1.x branch po file for errors – either using the
translation tool of your choice, or by compiling it to a mo file on your
computer and reading the output – as they contain formatting errors and
/ or do not properly indicate the language they are for (default value
is still set):
as, az, doi, en_AU, en_CA, eo, es_MX, fa, hy, kok@latin, ks@aran, mk,
ml, mni@beng, mni, mr, or, sat@deva, sat, sd@deva, sd, ur, ta
---------
Inkscape 1.2 (currently still the same as the master branch) is
approaching its alpha stage. Translations for 1.2 are already accepted,
but it is expected that especially the newly added strings will still
change until the release.
––––––––––
Happy translating!

Re: Greek translation
by Maren Hachmann
Thank you, dmtrs (Dimitrios?)!
Could you update your file with a recent pot file, please? You've been
working on a very outdated version.
See https://wiki.inkscape.org/wiki/Interface_translation#2._Get_the_file
to find a link where to get the latest pot file for updating it (to not
lose your work) and
https://wiki.inkscape.org/wiki/Translation_information#Update_a_translati...
to learn how to update your translation file.
Instead of the described msgmerge, you can also check whether your
translation software supports updating from a pot file. Most do!
Note that the current focus is on the upcoming 1.1.2 release, not yet on
1.2, which doesn't meant that you can't work on it, but just keep in
mind that we expect newly added strings to still change.
Thanks again,
Maren

Polish translation for 1.1.2
by Rafał Siejakowski
Hi everybody,
I was wondering if anyone is working/interested in working on an updated
Polish translation for 1.1.2.
I saw a few issues with the current translation, so it would be a good
idea to use this opportunity to fix them as well.
If anyone is interested, please let me know so that we can coordinate
the work.
Pozdrowienia!

where is the «msgid "New Document"» in master ?
by Cristian Secară
When starting Inkscape with the welcome screen, on the bottom of 'Time to Draw' tab there is a big 'New Document' button.
In the inkscape.pot file from 1.1.1 this string looks like this:
...
#: ../share/ui/inkscape-start.glade:2164
msgid "Show this every time"
msgstr ""
#: ../share/ui/inkscape-start.glade:2180
msgid "New Document"
msgstr ""
#: ../share/ui/inkscape-start.glade:2211
msgid "Time to Draw"
msgstr ""
...
However, in the inkscape.pot file from master [1] this string no longer exists.
If I use this template to update my existing translation from 1.1.1. and use this updated translation with the latest build of the 'master' branch, then the button fallback in English; instead, if I use the translation from 1.1.1 "as is" with that same 'master' branch (i.e. file not updated), then the button shows translated.
What is wrong here ?
The latest 'master' location is not this one ? I even pulled a merge request for master based on this location/template, but if I looked in the wrong place, then I have to review my merge request.

a few already translated strings does not show translated
by Cristian Secară
Create a shape – say, a rectangle – then select the shape.
By pressing Ctrl or Shift or Alt, for each a different explanatory string is displayed on program status bar, but all those strings are English only. I checked with German, French and Italian, no difference.
I'm on WIndows 10, the Inkscape About says 'Inkscape 1.1.1 (3bf5ae0d25, 2021-09-20)'.
