Hey All, I forgot to post to the user and translator lists because I was too excited. :) I think we closed out the last of the blocker bugs today! So, will people please help ensure that the release notes are up to date? I'm headed there in just a minute to document my latest changes. http://wiki.inkscape.org/wiki/index.php/Release_notes/0.47 Regarding PR, I am going to continue with what was started here: http://wiki.inkscape.org/wiki/index.php/AnnouncePlanning047 If you are an inkscape user who wants to contribute, even if you can't program, this is the perfect way to give back to the community. Please help us flesh this out and refine it. Packagers, please package up Pre3 if you have not already done so as a practice run... and honestly, I think it would be safe to plan a release for next week (between Monday the 5th and Friday the 9th), provided packages are available and no new issues arise. Any objections to this proposed plan? Any thoughts on if releasing on a specific day of the week will get more notice? Oh, and translators... please get any updates submitted asap. Thanks! Some basque users told me another bugs like this happened some months ago in Launchpad with KDE module, in Ubuntu KDE's UI appears in Hungarian language instead of Basque. I'm not sure it that bug was fixed or not. I use Debian, but other users prefer Ubuntu, and from my point of view, this is a really serious bug to be forget or don't take care of. Apparently it would be OK to use it, but how to translate it? I don't have the font... /Johan

About Launchpad translation system

Hi all, Last week I installed Mint (based on Ubuntu) in a computer. Right now, I'm begin to draw with Inkscape (0.46 version) on that computer, where I found a bad taste surprise! Even Inkscape 0.46 was completely translated to Basque lang, it has some messages translated to Spanish :( Usually I work on Debian system, where I had Inkscape 0.46 installed. On Debian Inkscape is absolutely in Basque (eu) language. That's why I guess there is some problem in Ubuntu's Launchpad system. Did another language team has any problem like this? Also if people have new things that come up, the 0.48 page is the place for them. Once we hit the main announcement, I'll update the wiki main page to link also to the 0.48 release notes.

Hello, I would like to ask the author (Johan Forsberg) of the about.svg displayed when choosing Help -> About -> Splash to provide some translated versions of the graphic. The xx.po-files allow for a translation of the part "Draw Freely" written beneath the version number in the way that one can enter a string pointing to an altered splash-screen sitting in /share/inkscape/screens in the inkscape installation directory. For German it would be "about.de.svg" and "Frei Zeichnen" instead of "Draw Freely". Maybe other translators would like to join in for their languages? Cheers Alex

Need for DISCLAIMER?

Hi! I'm chopping away at the swedish translation (which is not exactly up to date), and now I'm wondering about the legal details of translations. It seems many projects (GNU projects foremost) require (or prefer) a signed disclaimer to be sent to project managers. I see no such mention in the translation guidelines - is this anything I/you/we need to worry about? Or do we just "sign off" the translation ala linux, with a short disclaimer stating that it's all free from proprietary work? -E

please check tutorial filenames in your translations

Dear Translators, As most of you probably know, you need to modify the translation of tutorial filenames in order to have your localized tutorials appear instead of the default (English) ones. It's not enough to translate the tutorial itself, you also have to put the name of your localized svg file in the main PO file. The strings for this purpose are: #. TRANSLATORS: If you have translated the tutorial-basic.svg file to your language, #. then translate this string as "tutorial-basic.LANG.svg" (where LANG is your language #. code); otherwise leave as "tutorial-basic.svg". #: ../src/verbs.cpp:1912 msgid "tutorial-basic.svg" msgid "tutorial-shapes.svg" msgid "tutorial-advanced.svg" msgid "tutorial-tracing.svg" msgid "tutorial-calligraphy.svg" msgid "tutorial-elements.svg" msgid "tutorial-tips.svg" An example from the French (fr) translation: msgid "tutorial-basic.svg" msgstr "tutorial-basic.fr.svg" Because the "tutorial-basic.svg" string is translated as "tutorial-basic.fr.svg", Inkscape will display the French basic tutorial for French users, and not the English one. I checked the PO files and saw a few translations where the English filename was not translated to the localized one. Dear Translators, A large patch has recently been applied because of this bugreport: https://bugs.launchpad.net/inkscape/+bug/408093 The patch introduces a few dozen fuzzy strings in translations. Since a lot of them are introduced by corrections to English typos, in most cases you only have to remove the fuzzy tag. Please review your translations. Arpad Biro

When I did a normal make, inkscape.fr.1 was created but this has the same problem - note the A~X sequences. I noticed the utf8-to-roff filter in the makefile but I don't know how to use it.
