Martin, Bryce and Travis from our friendly hosters at OSUOSL have worked
on switching the inkscape.org website to the newer version this evening.
In some parts of the world, due to DNS propagation, you might not yet
see the new page, but you will soon (it looks pretty much the same,
though, just the backend is newer).
It now features a new shiny django (yay!).
Unfortunately, it currently has problems with page edits, news edits and
Please hold off editing anything on it, to not lose any work.
Martin is working on fixing things, and will let you know when it's good
for editing again.
Downloads and viewing the pages work as usual (except for viewing pasted
texts), so most people won't be affected by the issues.
Hi Maren,Marco and everyone,.I`ll try to be short. Im working with
"Virtaal"(a PO editor)on that En.po file from here:
About the examples of the problems i encountered, two are showed in the
image attached with this mail.
Marco,it is a very good thing i will join soon that channel for italian
translation. Thanks for the advice.
Thanks for help and Nice day to all.
Hi to all translators, sending this mail only to state that the translation
of shortcuts reference goes on and now im at 30%.
During the process i encountered shortcuts that don`t seems correct (differ
from english reference) or that are incomplete (eg. ctrl or shift missing
in the shortcut like CTRL+keypad 5 that shows just "keypad 5" in en.po
file) or again an alternative combination thats missing (present in the
english reference like # or SHIFT+3).
1 It is something that i can correct in the italian version (till today did
this way)? or i must just translate?
2 in case of missing alternative shortcuts, should i add a new row down the
"primary shortcut" ? how to do it?
note - till now i simply append (inline on the same row) the second
combination after the first one separating the two by a comma is this a
good solution ?
Thanks for the help and sorry for lenght. Nice day to all.
Dear Developers, Translators and affable Users of Inkscape,
The Inkscape website at inkscape.org will be down for upgrades soon.
This is dependent on when bryce is available for DNS change over.
The process involves moving the website to the new CentOS 7.6 server
from OSUOSL which is now setup, you can reach this new server by
manually setting your /etc/hosts for inkscape.org to 22.214.171.124 and
Everyone is invited to visit the new site, it looks exactly like the
old one. To see if it's still working correctly. It now uses python3
and django 1.11, so there's quite an upgrade planned for all the tech.
But so far it's holding steady.
The plan is to display this message to users, English only.
http://126.96.36.199/ while we move the database and sync up the media.
Best Regards, Martin Owens
Hi there, dear website translators,
on the inkscape.org website, we're currently having a problem with the
functionality 'Copy from English'.
This functionality does no longer seem to be safe for copying plugin links.
This will happen if you try:
Copy from English -> get a perfectly normal looking copy -> Edit text
and links within -> Save edited link -> Changes do not show -> Save page
-> changes show in Edit mode on translated page, and in Edit mode on
English page (!) -> Publish -> Links on translated page go missing.
Open English page in Edit mode -> see translated links, but not
published (now one can revert changes in English, fortunately).
Martin is currently working on an updated version of the website which
is planned to be released very soon.
Our new Italian translator Marco is going to test with the new version
if the error will be there, too.
Meanwhile, please don't publish any translation with links that have
recently been copied from English, without:
- first recreating all links
- checking the English original afterwards
It is currently safe to:
- Copy text plugins without any links
- Create links and plugins from scratch in your language, and use a text
editor to strip all plugins and formatting for transferring the contents
from English to your language.
- Edit and translate news articles
- Edit and translate po files
- Share translations for the download page for someone with permissions
to upload them to the website's releases system
We will keep you updated - please keep your fingers crossed that it's
not going to be an issue with the next version of the site!
Thank you all,
Hi there, website translators,
even though several people have reviewed the Hackfest news article
before it went live, we have overlooked to add one very important part:
The 'thank you' to our donators, and the link to donations.
We just noticed this during the board meeting, and I've put a new
paragraph in at the end.
I'm sorry - we don't usually edit news articles after they've been
published, but this was much too important to leave out.
Thank you very much for your help!
I’m a longtime inscape user. I contributed to the translation of other Open Source / Free project. Recently in particular I started translating the elementaryOS Linux distribution.
I’m an Italian living in México, so I speak fluently Italian and Spanish, but I also speak some English, French and a little of Brazilian Portuguese.
I’m also a proud Pastafarian.
I would like to contribute to Italian translation, starting with the website, which I think is the most important welcome point for new users. Only the front page is currently translated in Italian.
If it’s ok, please give me permission to edit, or else let me know what’s the next step I should do.
Have a nice day.
Hi again, Website translators,
Brynn has sent me info about a couple of small edits she made on the
Animations page today. I haven't had a look myself yet, but would like
to pass it on to you:
1. On the Animation page (https://inkscape.org/en/learn/animation/) she
has edited the paragraph and the subtitle for the paragraph, on JessyInk.
2. In the paragraph about XIA, she edited the link in both the subtitle
for that section, and the first word in the paragraph. Also, a short
way down the page (2 paragraphs down) under Standalone Programs, the
link for XIA (in "XIA and Sozi") was edited.
She writes that the replaced links were to the French version of the
website. French translators, please check if there's a plugin copy
problem with those links (i.e. same plugin ID in source mode/ links in
French go to English page now), and if so, remove them from French and
create new ones in their place.
3. In the paragraph for Synfig Studio, both the subtitle and the first
word of the paragraph, the links have been edited.
Thank you for your help!
I've updated the Hackfest donation page with links to the recent news
For the languages I know well enough (German + French), I've also fixed
the translation. It's still missing for Portuguese and Brazilian
It's a quick translation, so if you have 2 minutes to spare, please visit
Thank you very much!
