Hi all, I've heard from devs that they are planning a bugfix release of the 1.3.x branch in the first half of November. If you'd like to improve your 1.3 translations or increase the percentage of translated strings (see status at , please grab the po files from https://gitlab.com/inkscape/inkscape/-/jobs/artifacts/1.3.x/download?job=tr… Up-to-date sttatistics for the current translation status of Inkscape 1.3.x will be available shortly (probably tomorrow) at https://inkscape.org/doc/devel/translations-statistics-1.3.x.html If I get any updated info about the release date from devs, I'll let you know here - I think it would probably be best to aim for being finished by the end of October. Updates on Beginner's Guide translation procedures

Hello, As per Moini's request a few weeks ago (on the inkscape-docs mailing list), I explored documentation of Sphinx and ReadTheDocs, and researched a bit on the current Inkscape translation procedure. It seems like a good idea to manage the translations of the Beginners' Guide the same way as the main application: - clone the repo - translate with local software - create a branch with new .po files - create merge requests I've successfully created .po files for the Beginner's Guide, but I'm having trouble generating them into translated HTML files. Does anyone here have experience with translating Sphinx books? I'm wondering if it's possible to push to a branch in the guide (or somewhere else, I'm no developer😅) so that someone could investigate. Also, are there any official procedures or software to manage coordination between translators of the same language, or is it up to individual coordinators? Asking because I plan to form a small local team (3-4 people) to help with the translations. (BTW I'm planning to create a branch and do translations first, to separate from updates to the main version, then afterwards pull in the changes and translate them.) Cheers, ltlnx

Inkscape 1.3 string freeze! Submit your translations until July 14

Hi all! We are now in string freeze for Inkscape 1.3, which is due to be released around July 20th. You should now start to work on translating all those new strings. INSTRUCTIONS ------------ * Get the 1.3.x branch po file from https://gitlab.com/inkscape/inkscape/-/jobs/artifacts/1.3.x/download?job=tr… * Notify people on this mailing list that you are working on it. If possible, please share a link to your in-progress file (e.g. if you work on a branch in your own Inkscape repository copy on GitLab), to invite collaboration. You can also reach out to other translators of your own language, to avoid that people translate the same strings. This could lead to developers not knowing which translation file to merge, and ultimately, to your work not arriving in Inkscape 1.3, if that cannot be resolved in time. * Translate it using your favorite translation software and keep your public copy updated. * To get it into Inkscape 1.3.x, either open a merge request to the 1.3.x branch or open a bug report at https://inkscape.org/report . * The latest date to submit your translation is July 14. It is much better, though, to aim for submitting at least one week before that final date, to have enough time to sort out any issues with your file, or with other people's work. * If you are not also translating for the master branch at the same time (the program 'Lokalize' would allow for that, for example), please ask developers to also add your changes to the master branch when you submit your work. ----------------- There's a lot of nice new stuff in Inkscape 1.3! No translation platform?

Hello together, I'm new here and not a regular Inkscape user. I'm not primarily interested into translating Inkscape. But as member of the maintenance team of a FOSS software [1] I'm interested in sharing experience and opinions about translation and localization. Accidentally I recognized that Inkscape does not use a platform for translation / localization of its UI and content. Because of the age and size of your project I was suprissed about that fact. IMHO because of that it is hard for non-technical persons to contribute. Did you ever considered using a translation platform (e.g. Weblate or some of the known commercial platforms)? if so why did you decide against it? If you are interested I can share my experience with Weblate if you want. It is far away from perfect but does its job and is real free software. Hi all! Marc has merged many of your translations to the 1.3.x branch today! Congrats and thank you to everyone who has contributed! Along with the translations, the merge also contained a few small string fixes (mainly a big bunch of paper formats that had been missing from translations, and disambiguations for otherwise untranslatable strings that referred to two different things at once. 54 new strings in all). Documentation repo ready for translation! / Translation status overview

Hi all! I've just used these last three beautiful summer days to ... update Inkscape tutorials and the keyboard shortcut file. (I'm so glad it's done now...) This means that your translation updates for tutorials, man page and keyboard shortcut files are now welcome in the documentation repository! The active branch there is: https://gitlab.com/inkscape/inkscape-docs/documentation/-/tree/1.3.x It has several subdirectories and several po(t) files: * https://gitlab.com/inkscape/inkscape-docs/documentation/-/tree/1.3.x/keys * https://gitlab.com/inkscape/inkscape-docs/documentation/-/tree/1.3.x/man * https://gitlab.com/inkscape/inkscape-docs/documentation/-/tree/1.3.x/tutori… (subdirectories 'advanced' to 'tracing') Some screenshots in those folders also need an update - I have removed the outdated ones, so you can easily see whether you need to make a new one. Meaning of LPE - Live Path Effects

Hi there, today, while translating several sentences related to LPE, I ran into an issue that I had overlooked before. I have been translating "Live Path Effects" as something like "Effects for paths that are (a)live", but when using this in plural (in Spanish) it didn't make sense, so I wonder; what is "live" in these effects; the "path", or the "effect"? Neither the manuals <https://inkscape-manuals.readthedocs.io/en/latest/live-path-effects.html>, nor Tavmjong's book <http://tavmjong.free.fr/INKSCAPE/MANUAL/html/Paths-LivePathEffects.html> made me none the wiser Who can shed some light on this conundrum?
